Easily comforted by voice or adult physical contact
Takes time to be comforted. Appears very irritable
Feeds well, contented after a meal
Feeding difficulties, colic reported after 3 months and milk allergies
Enjoys a variety of foods
Diet can be quite restricted
Adapts to a good sleeping routine by 6 months
Sleeping difficulties. Seeks constant adult reassurance
Drinks from a feeder cup and fingerfeeds
Food and other objects frequently mouthed
Enjoys having a bath
Can become distressed and show early dislike of water (up to 6 months)
Rolls from back to stomach,sits unaided,crawls on hands and knees,pulIs to a standing position
Usually 'bottom shuffles' and either does not go through crawling stage or passes very briefly. Sometimes cannot sit unaided at 9-12 months
Makes purposeful arm and leg movements e.g moves to pick up toy and then spends time playing with it.
High levels of motor activity, repetitive arm and hand movements, sometimes additional repetitive head movements - 'rolling and banging'
Able to pick up small toys with either hand. Uses thumb and forefinger in opposition to do so.Passes toys between hands. Able to point with index finger
Picks objects using palmar 'fisted' grip. Finds it hard to locate sma11 objects and is unable to manipulate a toy with each hand
Enjoys listening to music. Responds to adult requests like 'Show me the ball'. Some single words
Responds with distress to high noise level. No evidence of emerging language skills
Lifts toys from table and manipulates in direct line of vision. Shows interest by smiling or babbling. Shows awareness when toys are hidden from view. May pick up a variety of toys but with fleeting interest. Moves from one to another after only a few seconds. Becomes irritated with 'hide and seek'game
