Peter Dunn`s Locost Page

Have Visited This Site

Hello, well eventually the site is getting a well needed makeover, much of the contents is the same but hopefully its a bit easier to use now and a lot more pleasing to the eye! (Note the site is viewed at 800x600 screen resolution).
Please feel free to put forward ideas and thing YOU would like to see on the site, also if you would like a photo of your car on the site please send them too me (email me and I'll give you a postal address as high quality photos are need to be used on the website and the CD-ROM.

Also the CD is selling quite well and has received only praise (thanks). It has now also just about reached the four coners of the globe!

Please note, due to the new upload of the site there may be some dead links, also some of the diagrams/pics may now be available at the moment, this will be fixed as soon as possible. Please feel free to report any dead links found.

THE LOCOST

PROJECT LOCOST

This project is the inspiration of Ron Champion, who is the author of an excellent book which will allow the amateur builder to end up with a creditable sports car at a reasonable cost.

BOOK DETAILS

"Build your own sports car for as little as £250" written by Ron Champion and published by Haynes, ISBN 0 85429 976 9, priced at £14.99 in the U.K. The most common E-mails I have received is to ask where the book can be purshased abroad. I suggest you try any "HAYNES" publishing outlets or try:
'Blue Print Books' their Credit Card hotline is Telephone 01737 222030 or Fax 01737 240185 (UK numbers).

The following pictures show the car from the start of the build, in December 96, to date, October 97.

Only a few changes have been made to the car, to make it more Sevenish and similar to my other car, shown on my WWW pages.

The running gear is all Ford based with the crossflow engine capacity increased to 1700cc.

All panels are riveted with 5/32" 'Monel' rivets, using hard Ali for the floor panels and half hard Ali for the body panels.

The total cost of this car is nearing £3000, but this still constitutes good value?

The car design is being used by schools and technical colleges for design and construction projects all over the world and is, in my opinion, ideal.

Buy the Mig - build the car- and get the 'T' shirt.

Good luck and I hope that you enjoy the build as much as I am. Watch this space for the finished pictures, and my thanks to Ron Champion.
