WELCOME TO HISTORIC WILLIAMSBURG

A few blocks walk from Williamsburg Hospitality House is the 173 acre Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg replete with fife and drum parades that, together with the costumed hosts and hostesses, intepreters and more than 100 craftsman practicing 18th century techniques, bring the restoration to life. Here you will find a very special sense of time and place, walking the streets where American patriots George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Patrick Henry prepared the way for our great fight for freedom, giving birth to a nation and hope to all mankind. A site of historic and archaeological heritage, Williamsburg is unparalleled...the benchmark for all restorations since. The most wonderful thing about a walk through Williamsburg is that you need not be a history buff to find inspiration at every turn !

JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT

Jamestown Settlement re-creates Amoerica's first permanent English colony with its exhibition galleries, film, Jamestown: The Beginning, and outdoor living history programs. Many 17th century artifacts are on display in the museaum's indoor gallery. In the outdoor living history area, costumed interpreters demonstrate 17th century activities in the Powhatan Indian village, in the palisaded James Fort and on board life-size replicas of the three ships that sailed in 1607.

YORKTOWN

Follow the "road to the Revolution" at the Yorktown Victory Center. Gallery exhibits dramatically explain the "times" and politics of the era leading up to the Revolutionary War and ultimate surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. Other exhibits explore the events of the Revolution and colonial life, and include artifacts retrieved from British war ships. In the re-created Continential Army camp and colonial farmsite, costumed interpreters demonstrate 18th century activities.
