Hormones from Plants

[photo of some beans] Chemicals that are similar to the female hormone, oestrogen have been found in plants. Soya, lentils and beans, all contain small amounts of these oestrogenic chemicals.

A study was done on 56 menopausal women in Australia. Those women who took a soya supplement found a reduction in their hot flushes after a few weeks.

In another study, women were given a purified supplement, Promensil, which contained oestrogenic chemicals. Their blood fats were measured, and showed a an increase in "healthy" fats, and a decrease in "unhealthy" fats.

Women who don't like taking tablets, may feel better during the menopause if they eat plenty of soya, lentils and beans.

Use Cheese to confuse Mosquitoes

Have you ever wondered why mosquitoes like to bite your feet and ankles?

The african mosquito is attracted to feet by the smell! This was discovered by using a naked volunteer. The volunteer had to stay motionless while researchers watched which area mosquitoes were likely to bite.

Limburger cheese is notorious for it's strong smell. This is best developed by allowing the cheese to ripen at 32-34 degrees c.

The smell produced by this ripened cheese is very similar to the smell produced between people's toes!

So, are you planning a trip to Africa?
Take a piece of ripe Limburger cheese with you - and confuse the mosquitos!!

.... and I used to be fond of Limburger cheese .....
