3rd year BA (hons) module : The Musical!
This module in part attempts to define and break down the qualities that make a good musical. To do this we will look at a number of perspectives such as aesthetics and meaning. We will also examine the historical spectrum of developments in the conventions used by artists, writers and producers of the musical theatre, exemplified by the 'water shed' musicals such as Show Boat, West-side Story and Oklahoma! We will also examine and assess a number of musicals currently on the West-End stages as well as the international musical theatre phenomenon.
