Grading
criteria for written work
0-24 (fail) Not judged to be a serious attempt and will require to be resubmitted /re-examined
25-32 (fail – Discretionary Compensation) Inadequate in both knowledge and analysis but evidence of a serious attempt.
33-39 (Pass Degree Level – Automatic Compensation) Serious deficiencies in presentation and analysis, though with some relevant material which begins to address the issues.
40-49 (3rd class Degree Level) Poor in areas of presentation and critical analysis, but with some knowledge based on reading.
50-59(2/2) Satisfactory presentation, knowledge relevant to the topic based on a range of reading and with some evidence of informed analysis.
60-61 (2/1) Well presented, knowledgeable analysis which engages with relevant theory, and clear evidence of intelligent use of a range of reading.
70 + (First Class Degree) Very well presented, knowledgeable, incisive analysis, often with a degree of originality, with clear evidence of a wide range of reading put to intelligent use
