East Berks Animal Aid were established over 10 years ago to campaign against
companies in the area involved in the abuse / misuse of animals, and to support
other groups in National and International campaigns.
We produce a Monthly Newsletter, do street stalls to raise awareness and collect
signitures on petitions, and stalls at local fetes to raise money for campaigns
and animal re-homing groups. Any help is always needed as we are only a small group.
Recent campaigns have included:
Premarin - A drug produced by Wyeth Ayerst who have their UK head office in
Taplow (Nr. Slough), which is produced by taking the urine from pregnant mares,
causing 75,000 foals a year to be produced. These are then sent off either to
slaughter or to cruel rodeos etc. More info can be found at:
this envirolink site
McDonalds - We have produced a leaflet, "McDonalds in their own words" which
the text can be viewed
here. The details in this leaflet were all taken from
the McSpotlight pages, which document the libel case currently going on in the
High Court in London. We recently picketted 2 local McDonalds including a Drive-Thru
which had just opened, and handed out nearly 1000 leaflets in only a couple of hours.
Circuses - We picketted 'Chipperfields Circus' on their recent visit to the area
and handed out several hundred leaflets, successfully informing several potential
customers of the cruelty involved in circuses, persuading them not to go. Details
of recent information about circuses can be found
here.
We have successfully persuaded several local councils to implement bans on animal based circuses.
