NAME:
Mike Berry
COMPUNET ID:
KERNAL (formally MB17)
WHAT HE DID:
Demos, demos, some games, and a few more demos for good measure. I lived and breathed Compunet & the C64 at the time. In my most productive years I used to upload around 2-3 demos a week, some good, some bad, and some just plain awful. I think the last demo I wrote for Compunet was Mr.Heli, although I did write a few after I left, but they were never seen on Compunet.
CLAIM TO COMPUNET FAME:
First place in the first major yearly Compunet demo writing awards, 2nd place the next year (5 months after leaving Compunet!). My first ever Xmas demo was published in the Xmas 1986 issue of Popular Computing Weekly (in fact, this was the first thing of mine ever published). Lots of stuff in the 'Demo Hall of Fame'. Hung about a lot on Partyline, bugging people, along with (and the guilt pains me today) tricking newbies into logging themselves off Pline - and Cnet for that matter - by getting them to type certain key combo's; oh the shame ;)
WHAT'S HE UP TO NOW:
Getting paid to fiddle with the guts of PC's. Hey, I forgot, I'm also the guy that's brought you these Compunet pages! I'm also trying hard(ish) to finish a new game for the C64 to be given away for free, called Savage Platforms.
OTHER STUFF:
Will Nick Green please make his presence known to me please! By the way, Simon, that shirt HASN'T got flowers on it!
TOP THREE FAVOURITE PROGRAMS/HARDWARE:
This list changes every time I think of it. My three favourite C64 games are Mr.Do's Castle, Elite, and Bruce Lee, but this list changes daily. Hardware-64-wise, it has to be my trusty Expert Cartridge, Action Replay Cart, and early on, Dolphin DOS.
BETWEEN WHICH DATES WERE YOU A MEMBER OF COMPUNET?:
I joined around late '84 early 85ish, and after leaving once, and coming back, I finally gave up the ghost around 1990. I spent a few years as a freelance games programmer. Compunet was in a pretty poor state at the time, and most of the 'famous' demo coders had left for better things, such as working for, and creating software houses!
