It seems the sky's the limit for the Ribble Valley's premier television and satellite business - Dugdale's European Ltd.  Now in its 15th year, the business, formerly known as Dugdale's TV, Video and Satellite, has now expanded its installation and service area to cover the whole of the North West region.

Located at Astra House, Chatburn Road, Clitheroe, Dugdale's has undergone a complete renovation to cope with customer demand and now boasts a call centre as well as a revamped showroom.

This means customers can now phone from anywhere in the North West with the knowledge that installation is guaranteed by one of Dugdale's own or a freelance fitter within 48 hours of receiving their Sky card.

Managing Director Mr David Dugdale commented on how well the new system was working: "We are now in the position where we are installing up to 30 Sky systems per week."

The television retail side of the business is also going from strength to strength, with the showroom housing some of the very latest models including Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screens and Plasma screen televisions - all at online prices.

The compact LCD screens are ideal for customers restricted by space and. like the larger Plasma screens, are so light that they can be mounted the wall.  Both take picture quality to unprecedented levels and can be ordered in a range of different sizes from the showroom.

Mr Dugdale first trained as a television and wireless technician back in 1965.  After gaining 24 years experience with the general public and dealing with all aspects of TV and video servicing, Mr Dugdale decided to go it alone.  In 1989 he made a run-down fruit and veg shop in Clitheroe his target and within a year, had laid all the foundation stones for success.  His timing could not have been better, with the shop opening its doors on the brink of the satellite revolution, with Sky starting to transmit on the Astra satellite system that same year.

Although sales proved slow at first, they soon picked up.  The interest in the new phenomenon continued, with Mr Dugdale attracting a 70 strong crowd outside his shop that year by showing the live Bruno versus Tyson fight at two o clock in the morning free to members of the public.

In 1990 the television cameras descended on the area once again for a Granada TV / Channel 4 documentary, which focused on a unique experiment to see what the effects of multi channel TV would have on the small village of Waddington.

As part of the project, Granada chose Dugdale's to set up the first Widescreen television in Europe.  In 1992 it was Sky's turn to visit the business to film a documentary about leading satellite retailers in the UK.

This run of success was followed by an invitation to Sky Television's first annual dinner in London in 1994, while in 1995 Dugdales won the contract to install the background systems in the then Nynex Arena, now the M.E.N. Arena and the largest of its kind in Europe.

Then in 2004 Mr Dugdale was invited to the "Shaping of the Future" forum in Birmingham to discuss the future of satellite television in the UK and was one of a select group of only 10 dealers to have been selected.  Mr Dugdale admits he would not be where he is today without the help of his loyal team of staff.
