Welcome to the Inverleith Petanque Club

We meet every Tuesday and thursday evenings from April until October Wednesday afternoons and Sundays all year round.

Juniors are welcome.

Petanque is a fun and challenging game and we always welcome new participants. It is an ancient game, indeed two boules and a jack were found in a pyramid.. The romans left it  in europe and this country went down the grass bowls route when the lawn mower was invented in the 1830s.The game evolved further after that in europe so that it does differ in a few ways from bowls .Importantly we can play for around 50 weeks in the year. Old and young , men women and even wheelchair users may all play on level terms within the rules which makes our game truly unique. If you are interested in more information about our club or the possibility of joining (or just want to find out more about Petanque) please see the contact page.

We have been playing in Inverleith Park for 20 years and have recently relocated to a larger terrain. We currently have 60 members but now have plenty of space for new members. If you're interested in visiting, spare boules and equipment are always available if you wish to give the game a try. Bring some pals if you want and make a night of it in the summer perhaps we can arrange for some of our better players to show you the game.

While we do occasionally engage in serious competitions (some of our members are part of the Scottish Internationals) the majority of our games are of a friendly nature and our members are always happy to encourage beginners.

Our Recent Relocation:

After the Edinburgh councils plan to upgrade the facilities in the park we set ourselves the task of finding a new terrain that would be challenging and would be large enough to make the move worthwhile . After missing out on the offer of a disused bowling green at inverleith ,our  Council's Parks Department finally offered us a huge chunk of a row of abandoned tennis courts directly opposite the old site, in the same park.

After much ado the work is now complete , the parks department have done us proud

with two different surfaces and a surrounding fence . Our own hard workers have finished the final touches and we are up and running . A new improved complete club for all types of player and we welcome anyone who is interested in the game .
