Domain Names Explained |
|
Domain names are the names used to conveniently contact an Internet site or e-mail address. (e.g. mmprojects.co.uk). Without domain names contacting an Internet site would require knowing the Internet Protocol (IP) Address (e.g. 194.6.96.215) of that site. Behind the scenes a world wide system called Domain Name Service (DNS) translates the easy to remember domain names into the less friendly IP addresses required to connect to a site. Registering an Internet domain name gives you unique use of that name to point to any Internet site or e-mail address you choose. For example if your company was called ABCXYZ Ltd. you may wish to register any or all of the following domain names
If you registered any of these domain names they could then be pointed to any sites of your choice or even all to the same site. The .co.uk, .ltd, .com or .net portions of the name are just some of the parent domains within which we can register your name
