5th May 2001

Girvan harbour

approaching Ailsa Craig

a panoramic shot of the island

the castle and lighthouse from the sea

.. and 4 other shots as we circumnavigated the island

disembarking from the Glorious

many thanks to Jon for organizing this trip

an unfriendly welcome for those who have landed without permission

at the castle

castle and lighthouse from above

the 338m summit of the island - looking north

- and looking south with the mainland in the distance

looking north to Arran and Holy Island

looking west - the Mull of Kintyre is to the left of the people

the sky is full of seabirds - Ireland can be seen very faintly in the distance

thousands of gannets nest on the cliffs but gulls nest right on the ridge

leaving Ailsa Craig

.. after an exhausting day!
