Taransay
The Isle of Taransay lies quite close to the western shore of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. In the year 2000 it came to prominence when a group of castaways were stranded there for the year and a television series made of their attempts to form a viable community. In the aftermath of this it is now fairly easy to reach the island which is being promoted for day trips and apparently the accomodation is being improved and developed for holiday lets. We visited on 9th July 2001 mainly to climb to the highest point of the island Ben Raah which is in the Marilyn list.
