Greenstead and Longridge Estates

Greenstead and Longridge housing estates are situated in the east of Colchester, Britain’s oldest recorded town, 55 miles north-east of London.

The first houses were built in the late 1950’s by the local Council. Throughout the 1960’s and early 1970’s more houses were added. Most of these were Council owned. In the 1980’s the Longridge estate was built, all the houses being privately owned.

There are now just over 4100 homes on the two estates, varying from one bedroom flats to four bedroom houses. There are two primary schools and one secondary school, and three other Churches (Roman Catholic, Elim Pentecostal and Anglican).

Greenstead Evangelical Free Church is situated right in the middle of the estate. See the history for the wonderful story of how the Church came to be where it is.
