In Matthew 28:19 Jesus said to the disciples "Go, therefore and make disciples of all the nations." The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is literally good news to all men, women, boys and girls.
Part of Greenstead Free Church’s obedience to the command of the Lord Jesus is an ongoing door to door visitation programme on the Greenstead and Longridge housing estates.
Most Monday nights up to seven members of the Church are directly involved in this work. Usually, one or two pairs (including at least one man) actually knock on doors, while the remainder remain to pray for the work whilst the teams are out.
Each team calls on around 15 homes each week, having previously delivered an introductory leaflet called "In an ever changing world does anything ever stay the same?".
When they call, the team first explains clearly whom they represent and then endeavours to start a conversation on spiritual matters. The subjects of God, the 10 Commandments, creation / evolution, death, judgement and heaven & hell are often discussed. Folk are challenged whenever possible as to where they stand in God’s eyes.
Leaflets, tapes and Bibles are given out freely, as appropriate. Over the years hundreds of good conversations have been had and we believe several have been saved. The estate has over 4000 homes so it takes several years to knock on every door!
