There has been a Sunday School (now called Sunday Discoverers) at Greenstead Free Church ever since it was founded in 1965. The teachers, some of whom are professional teachers, have many years experience between them. Children of any age between 3 and 18 are welcome.
Sunday Discoverers starts at 10.00am but many like to come a little earlier so that they can join in singing songs. There is plenty of opportunity for the children to get involved; choosing a favourite song, doing actions and sometimes making as much noise as possible! The children divide into groups according to age for an appropriate Bible story. Everyone gets a take-home leaflet, which tells the parents what they have been learning about. All the children get the chance to earn small prizes, and the older ones are awarded a modern version of the Bible for good attendance.
Children at secondary school have a completely separate meeting, called Bible Class. They have their own songbook and the opportunity to make up their own quizzes. They learn not only about events and characters in the Bible, but also find out what it has to say about issues like marriage and drugs.
