Miniatures

Miniatures form a considerable portion of the Peter King collection, partly because their small size enabled them to survive a period of family uncertainty after his death. Almost all King's miniatures are made in aluminium, though a few bronzes exist, and there is one piece in silver (though this may have been cast later from a wax or as a copy). His fondness for miniatures may have stemmed in part from his friendship with Alan Davie, who was at that time supporting his painting by silversmithing and jewellery. Several of King's miniatures are clearly intended as pendants, though the bulk of them are mounted on slate, or were probably intended to be mounted that way.
