He entered the Royal Artillery as a gentleman cadet in 1802. He
was commissioned on 22 December 1803, aged 15 years and 6
months. He served in Italy in 1805, Scylla 1806, Egypt 1807,
Ischia 1809, Spain 1813 and Taragona.
