Baron Le Despencer, who, on the demise of his uncle, John, Earl
of Westmorland, in 1762, succeeded to the Barony of Le Despencer
in right of his mother, and was summoned to parliament 19 April
1763. His lordship, who was one time head of the War-Office, and
subsequently treasurer of the Chambers and master of the
Wardrobe, filled the office of the Chancellor of the Exchequer
from 29 May 1762 to 16 April 1763; and was one of the
postmasters general for several years.
