1807 Jan 29-1808 Jun 29 LP Educated at Blundells School, Tiverton aged 8/9. Very short sighted.

1808 At Cape of Good Hope. Later of Mauritius, Canada & Jamaica.

1810 LP aged 17 of Army Commissariat in Sicily & during Peninsular War,Spain. Took the place found originally for his wastrel cousin, James Daniel Pennell by John Wilson Croker.

1812 May 23 Deputy Assistant Commissary General.

1818 Oct 24 In Retreat from Burgos, a march of 150 miles.

1813 Jun 21 At Battle of Vittoria & in high passes over Pyranees. At crossing of Nivelle.

1814 Feb At Orthes & Toulouse. Medal clasps for all of above.

1814 To N. America until end of War of Independence. Afterwards in the Army of Occupation, France. Then Jamaica & Nova Scotia.

1821 To Cape of Good Hope. In charge of outposts on Gt Fish River 500 miles east of Cape Town, then the furthest reaches of British Africa. Later at HQ Cape Colony. Met Margaret Croker there?

1825 Jun 7 Assistant Commissary General.

1826 In Mauritius again

1840 Dec 26 Deputy Comissary General but relieved of post.

1843 Dec On Half pay to 1844. Went to live in Gosport, Hants. Very miffed at dismissal and demotion which precluded him from the higher half-pay rate paid to those with 5yrs in rank. Half - pay was actually £589-6-3 but would have been £1250-8-0 in his old higher rank. LP wrote a memorial to the Treasury asking for a review.

1848 Sent to Montreal on Cunard "Britannia" possibly to help cope withTyphus epidemic among the many Irish immigrants to Canada.

1849 To Jamaica as Deputy Commissary General.

1854 May 5 Died and buried at Halfway Tree, Kingston, Jamaica.
