Visitors will be impressed by the unspoilt moorlands, quite roads and byways, sleepy market towns and miles of sandy beaches.
For hustle and bustle there are large cities, industrial areas and shopping complexes.
Award winning museums, sculptures,
magnificent castles and country homes,
with an abundance of wild life
for the nature lovers.
Steeped in history you will find churches, cathedrals, roman and viking remains.
The coal mines that brought the wealth to the area during the industrial revolution have now nearly all closed, with only a few still working at a reduced output. The pit heaps, that were once part of the regions scenery, are now turned in to grassy rolling hills in the style of Capability Brown.
On the following pages I have tried to show some of my favourite places
However to experience the best thing about the region, you will have to visit and meet some of the nicest friendliest people in the world.
