Cobblers Comments

Well done the Direones....Prediction for the final - 4-3 to Cheltenham - NeilGrayson 93 minutes with the winner.

Rodney at 22:43:53 Tuesday April 30 2002
I agree. Fair play to Diamonds. They came from behind three times in the tie to win. Should be a contrast in styles in the final: Cheltenham's long ball game as opposed to the Diamonds' prettier football. We could be looking at a number of local derbies now: Luton, Posh, Wycombe and possibly Diamonds. I just hope WE can sort our off the field problems out and sign some players. Diamonds aren't a serious threat in the sense that they are an ambitious RURAL club as their chairman puts it. Cobblers are all that should concern us.

Vince at 22:12:43 Tuesday April 30 2002
Fair play to teh Direones it sounds as if they deserved the win. Feel sorry for Rochdale but now Direones are in the play off final I hope they win so we have another local derby.

TRB Mark at 21:14:47 Tuesday April 30 2002
Turley swings wildly at a backpass and misses! 1-0 Rochdale.......but direones equalise

Sid at 15:22:2 Tuesday April 30 2002
A long hard season for the Cobblers saw them escape relegation quite easily with a great run in the second half of the term, after a shocking first five months. You've seen the games. You've seen the goals. You've seen the ups and downs. It's now time for you to vote in the NTFCunofficial.com End Of Season Poll for 2001/2002 - in conjunction with the WALOC mailing list! To vote, simply copy and paste this address or use the e-mail on the WALOC list - http://northamptontown.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=964&p=2&stid=8255851 - Thanks!

according to the Chron Fash says it will be 2/3 weeks before he takes over

Richard at 10:53:57 Tuesday April 30 2002
1,058 Season tickets now sold, I bet we will break through 1,500 by the end of the week now everyone has been paid, and should be well on the way to 3000+ again come the start of the season. If we are taken over, which players will stay, who will go and who exactly is the interested party we are discussing a lock out with at the moment. According to Mr Hodder the takeover is weeks away now rather than months.

AD at 23:34:1 Monday April 29 2002
What you mean 'invest heavily' like Mr Griggs has done! Hypocrite!

Anon at 19:39:57 Monday April 29 2002
Freeserve for millions - apparently he has seen documents to back this up. Interesting to see also the club is considering a pre-season tour of Scotland - after what they said about previous Irish tours being such a waste of everyones time what do they expect from a Scottish one? Cost wise, surely there would be very little difference. Finally, a massive well done to Kevan Broadhurst for his achievements so far - it would have been very easy for him to do a Peter Taylor and quit whilst his stocks high, knowing that a season of struggle could be around the corner. Lets hope that the takeover goes through, the new owners invest heavilly, and that the cobblers can finally challenge for a position in the 1st division on equal grounds to the likes of Stoke and Bristol City.

The Drilling Cobbler at 19:32:37 Monday April 29 2002
The whole league needs to be restructured - as it stands at present teams constantly over commit themselves budget wise because the cost of relegation is so high. Dropping from the 3rd to the conference would put most clubs without a benefactor out of business - or at least close too. An example of this is Newport County. Also, with so many conference sides solvent and in good shape generally, a team with debts coming down struggles to get back up because of the 1 up 1 down policy. Allowing more teams promotion and relegation would soften the blow to those relegated because they would have a realistic chance of promotion in the future. Switching back to NTFC and the hights of division2, am I the only person who is feeling cynical about Hodders latest remarks regarding likely timescales for the takeover. Nothing todo with attempts to sell more season tickets surely? About the bidders, a reliable(ish) source has told me that the most likely to take over the helm is the guy who sold

A Childs View at 19:26:42 Monday April 29 2002
Can all the R & D fans sod off and get their own site - I really don't care about them and they take too much time to read through - they're boring and I just don't care, can we talk about Cobblers please? Lockout agreement within a few weeks apparently, this'll consolidate the bidding and gives us a bit more security. Will the club anounce the interested parties at this stage? Let's get it done and start preparing for next season. Has Parkin gone yet? I do hope never to have to watch him in Claret & White again!

The Drilling Cobbler at 19:24:11 Monday April 29 2002
In my view, the 3rd division and the conference should be merged into divs4 north and south. Apart from the obvious gate increases due to more 'local fixtures', it would also not put as much pressure on those clubs who wish to remain part-time - the main problem with teams that come up from the conferences(such as those Rodney mentioned below) is that one season wonders without a sufficient support base attempt to compete with bigger clubs only to find that once the novelty value of league football has diminished, their gates do likewise. Ex league clubs such as Chester, Hereford, Aldershot (Rymans league) and Doncaster and the likes of Yeovil and Nuneaton could no doubt compete with the Exeters and the Torquays on a full time basis, but for clubs such as Dagenham and Redbridge who could not even attract a 4000 gate for a game of yesterdays significance, turning full time and paying full time 'league' wages would be a disaster in the medium - long term. cont.

Rodney at 18:36:48 Monday April 29 2002
Let more conference clubs in? Do me a favour! Barnet came in with a crap ground, no support and went out again, same with Scarborough, Macclesfield are the worst supported side in the entire league, Kidderminster are in dire trouble. One of the few success stories has been Wycombe.

Richard at 17:19:13 Monday April 29 2002
Well, Broadhurst has had his meeting, who is staying at the club, who is goig, what will our transfer budget be, when will we be taken over etc etc So many questions....

LH at 14:45:31 Monday April 29 2002
In the unfortunate, but very real, event of clubs going out business in the close season ie: Swindon , Bury , Lincoln etc... What would the league do ? Pull their head out of the sand ? Promote clubs up the ladder? Come up with a well thought out blueprint for the future structure of the game ?

Yes they should. When their security is so lax as to let 4 bumpkins onto the bus to attempt to attack the scouse goalscorer and Hoyland. Your sad fans are the first to blame other supporters for their behaviour. It is a bit sad to try to blame it on Luton fans as well.Lets see how you lot get on at Rochdale. You wont be bringing the 3500 that we took their for a FACup match or the 2000 for a league match 2 years ago.

Disgrace at 18:10:3 Sunday April 28 2002
I think its disguisting that rushden should be allowed to play in the second leg, let alone be in with a chance of being in the 2nd division. They should be banned, demoted and shut down, then again i forgot that griggs will probably just open up the cheque book and pay off who ever it takes to make sure no further action is taken. The fans are not only thick, but this incident also proves they are stupid thugs of a mickey mouse club

Rodders at 20:21:46 Saturday April 27 2002
Last year some fans were suggesting that we should change our nickname. Cobblers! I think that anyone born and bred in the town should be proud of our history/heritage. Nicknames like Cobblers, Hatters, Silkmen, Chairboys are far more meaningful than the moronic and meaningless 'blues' or 'reds' etc.

Rodders at 20:17:44 Saturday April 27 2002
Yes, congratulations to the Poppies. Like us, they are 'financially embarassed' so their success is doubly deserved. As for Rushden Radio 5 is currently reporting fighting after today's game between Diamonds fans and Rochdale players! Anyone confirm this?

Ray at 19:46:59 Saturday April 27 2002

That is a description of McGregor, only had one half decent game all season, and Billy Turley at fault for Rochdales second!!!!

A Childs View at 13:2:51 Saturday April 27 2002
Kevan Broadhurst - don't know if you read this board but, if you do, send a scout to Aylesbury United to look at a player called Chris Bangura. We took a chance with Asa last season and its paid off, I rate this player as 10 times as good, once the word is out there'll be a bunfight to sign him, let's see the Cobblers get in first!

A Childs View at 13:0:24 Saturday April 27 2002
Agree about McGregor AMKC, he can spot a pass and do something different, we need the variety. Sometimes it doesn't come off for him, but, at least he tries to create and is prepared to put his head above the parapet. Don't want Hunty to go though. We may be able to keep Welchy, if the sale goes through quickly and he can see the squad being strengthened he may stay - I've a sneaky he's gonna go to Reading as a cover keeper, don't know why, this isn't based on any knowledge, just a hunch! Takeover is all important now, get it done quickly so we can remove the embargo, strengthen and sell more season tickets.

Great to see Blue Band Express shutting down. Rushden scum don't deserve dosh

AMKC at 10:32:17 Saturday April 27 2002
A couple of thoughts on recent posts. Hunter was quoted in the Chron recently as saying he wanted to stay and had aske dthe Board for a new deal before Christmas, but they said "no" because of the money situation at the club. I actually like McGregor. He may not be the hardest worker but we have plenty of those which is why the options are so limited in changing things. When you look at the midfield it is full of grafters and not a lot else.Someone may be able to spot a siginificnat difference between the games of Hunt and Hunter for example, but I haven't been able to spot it. Good players both, but essentially similar. McGregor at least tries different things, and whilst I would agree he appeared lazy early on in the season, he has picked up. AS for players out of contract generally, I would hold on to Hargreaves, Welch, Sampson and Asamoah and let the rest go - including Hunt because he will probably have other and better options in the summer. The squad needs a shake up.

Good Friday afternoon one and all. Most of ye may not remember me, but I do!! (The mad bloke in shorts away at Chesterfield) Well 'interesting' season wasn't it. Sounds as though stuff is moving in the sale of the club with Hodder saying it's down to two and should take weeks, and that the summer spending spree will soon be on. So yet again we have something to look forward to. Don't know what to do tomorrow, anyone fancy being a Rochdale fan for the afternoon, think I would have gone if it had been Hartlepool, I liked it up there. Ah well, enough from me, maybe see some of you around, take care

Interesting how Chris Hargreaves said how much he enjoyed it here and wanted to stay , along with Sammo but Welch , Hunt & Hunter's silence speaks volumes. I think Hunt could be be a very good player in a better side , wouldnt be surprised to see him in Div 1 . We'd miss Welch , consistantly the best keeper I,ve seen play for us . Hunter, I'm not sure , I thought he looked comfortable at right back but allways a bit behind the pace of the game in Midfield.

Gareth at 14:10:10 Thursday April 25 2002
Sorry, did somebody say that McGregor got going? When was that cos I must have missed it. You could never accuse Hodge of being lazy. Many other things, but not lazy. McGregor on the other hand is lazy and has the worst shooting ability in a team full of poor shooters.

Thanks, Ana gram King for the best laugh I've had on this board for ages.

LH at 10:26:49 Thursday April 25 2002
If you start Hodge , firstly he wont last the game & he'll give goals away through poor positioning & slack play. ie Two goals against Huddersfield at home.

9224 at 9:50:50 Thursday April 25 2002
I actually think that when he started Hodgie did a good job for us. We look a better, more positive side when he plays. Besides, it's surely unfair how few chances when it took McGregor until the end of March to really get going, yet week-in-week-out he was in the first eleven

...and football on Christmas Day should be reintroduced

Scrooge at 15:43:13 Wednesday April 24 2002
Good point, there must be a lot of areas where the club can economise, players should make their own way to away matches, hitch hiking and sleeping under hay stacks if required. They should also wash their own kit and those who do not have acess to washing machines etc should wash their kit in the River Nene. Players should also carry out other duties when they are not playing or training such as cutting grass (by hand to save petrol) and working in the ticket office (writing tickets by hand to save wear and tear on computer equipment). Food should be restricted to Gruel and any player who needs accomodation should sleep under the counter in the club shop (which will remain unheated at all times)

NTFC@2view at 15:21:43 Wednesday April 24 2002

Let's hope those fitness tests are full of shuttle runs and the old Atkins lamp post running around Sixfields. Interesting they're on a paid holiday when the Chron says we're onto the council to get a £50 000 loan to keep us going over the summer. Hmmmmmmm......is this the sensible book keeping we've all heard about. I work in sales and have under-performed this year (haven't hit my 50 point target!) now will my boss pay for me to go on holiday......I wonder (bitter aren't I?)

LH at 12:44:26 Wednesday April 24 2002
Vince , I agree , you could be right sounds like a Wilson ' team building exercise' when half the team may not be retained. Either way it does not look good & sends all the wrong signals when you look at the the financial problems. The players would of earned a lot of respect by forgoing their Jolly and keeping the funds within the club. It dont think this a Broadhust screw up , I,m sure he is letting the players know what he thinks by working them hard with these fitness tests when they return.

Vince at 12:33:50 Wednesday April 24 2002
Even if the Holiday is in their contracts Its hardly a "must have" item. The players already get paid far more than most fans and whilst I don't deny that they are entitled to earn what they can I don't think taking a holiday which in total must be costing NTFC several thousand pounds will be seen by many fans as being well deserved. When Broadhurst commented on the matter on the radio it souded as if he was not that keen on the idea and I wonder if it was something that Wilson negotiated, after all he did seem to encourage that sort of thing, be it paint ball outings or pre-season piss ups in Ireland.

LH at 12:23:38 Wednesday April 24 2002
Its ok , turns out Club took £50 k loan from Council for the Costa's cock up.

Ray at 12:16:8 Wednesday April 24 2002
I'm betting its not in their contracts.

Richard at 12:13:59 Wednesday April 24 2002
If it's in their contracts then surely it is part of there salary package, I am sure the PFA would have had something to say had it been canceled.

Ray at 11:54:0 Wednesday April 24 2002
I must say I tend to agree. With all the cost cutting, pleading poverty etc. a nice little holiday paid for, effectively, by the fans doesn't sit well with me.

Vince at 11:31:3 Wednesday April 24 2002
LH, must say I agree with you. The players must be well aware of the clubs problems and for those organisations who have scraped around to raise funds and the fans who have committed money to next years season ticket the reports of the break in Benidorm were not what they wanted to hear. If the players had anything like the same commitment as most fans they would have agreed too give it a miss. From the clubs point of view this is a bit of a PR gaff and I wonder who agrred to it in the first place. Avoiding relegation is not normally a reason to "win" a holiday - what would have happened if we had won promotion? - a round the world cruise for friends and family!

Have to say I thought that was a bit out of order as well . Spend all season pleading for support , collections , early season ticket sales etc all to send players on a jolly. So much for Gary Hodders good housekeeping .

Rodders at 21:51:57 Tuesday April 23 2002
Hodge has had his chances in the starting line up. He did absolutely nothing at Brentford and the season before looked far better as a sub. Look at his record at Gillingham where he was always on the bench. KB did not create the role for him. As soon as he came off against QPR we started to look stronger despite being down to ten men.

PATTCOBB- THE SEASON IN A FEW WORDS at 13:11:23 Tuesday April 23 2002
Forget the Saints at Twickenham (quite easily done by the sound of their performance!), forget Maxxy buying his way out of the administration division, quite simply the acheivement of Kevan Broadhurst is the biggest success story in sporting terms in the county this year. With the resources he had and the lack of confidence instilled by Wilson (surely not keeping his eye on the ball when sh*gging that bird cost him his job!) Broadhurst has pulled off a miracle..........

Vince at 11:42:58 Tuesday April 23 2002
Ray, any chance of updating the Tipping Competition?

9224 at 11:16:21 Tuesday April 23 2002
Why not give him the whole game then?? There have been times when we've needed him and Del has come on and just fallen over lots - can you honestly say he's deserved all his run-outs on Saturday's showing? Hodge's stamina was down because of lack of match practice and does anyone really give a shit about how he plays in the stiffs? Reserve matches only matter for injured players to kick a ball again and for youngsters to break through - established professionals shouldn't be judged on reserve team outings! I am also very apprehensive about building any manager up as 'a god' now - we've been there before. Remember Ian 'The Messiah' Atkins and Kev 'The Best Young Manager Around' Wilson?????

Anon at 10:20:27 Tuesday April 23 2002
Not only did Rushden & Diamonds record a place in the play-offs over the weekend but they will also go into their two-legged semi-final clash against Rochdale with a near clean bill of health. On Monday morning, Diamonds boss Brian Talbot was pleased to report no knocks, bruising or injuries to any of his key-players during Saturday’s win against Halifax Town. Onandi Lowe was involved in a few nasty clashes but he is OK while goalkeeper Billy Turley and striker Scott Partridge were just taken off as a precaution as Diamonds coasted to victory in the second-half. Meanwhile, it was confirmed that Ritchie Hanlon did fail a late fitness test prior to the game against Halifax although physiotherapist Simon Parsell is ‘confident’ that he should be available for the clash at Nene Park. Hanlon has missed the last two games because of a hamstring injury and although he looked to be on the way to match fitness it was decided not to risk the midfielder.

Phil at 9:22:32 Tuesday April 23 2002
So then Dempsey and Lopes leave the club - no surprises there then

NSJ at 8:55:5 Tuesday April 23 2002
Hodge was always a luxury. He was at his best when he came on right near the end and given the chance to run at tired legs. All his best moments came then (apart from Swindon away!!!!). I'll be sad to see him go but he's not the sort of player you build a team around. Looks like we still need a midfield playmaker (maybe Mcgregor could be it next year), In the meantime can we start an SOS (Save Our Shaggy) campaign: we can't afford to lose him and the bloke apparently loves it here.

KC at 22:1:3 Monday April 22 2002
Dav u there m8?

Rodders at 21:57:45 Monday April 22 2002
9224: comments about Hodge are well off course. He has no stamina, can only turn it on in small spurts, never shines in the reserve team and if KB really had a personal difference with him why would he have even given him the opportunity to come on for a farewll gesture. He could have brought on Gabbi instead. KB is a god.

HOME&AWAY at 19:40:6 Monday April 22 2002
Hodge has proved time and again that he is too much of a burden on the team and can you honestly say that he deserved more outings this season than Asamoah? Personally I find it hard to believe anyone can attack KB at all since he took over. I know its early but I have to start the rumour mill going,I heard from a mate of mine who IS in the know at Sixfields that Sunderland are keeping close eyes on KB with the thought of him taking over for next season, apparently they have been very impressed with his tactical ability, his man management and how he works with a tight/nil budget. This could be a reason that the club tied him up on a 2 yr contract after saying no contracts were being given?

Hodgie gave a resounding 'up yours' to Broadhurst with that magnificent goal - good on him. If he'd been used properly we'd have done much better this year - he makes things happen. But no, yet another case of a Northampton manager not using a superb talent due to personal differences. Every now and then a player comes around who is worth adjusting the system to accommodate - I believe that we are just about to release one!

Going to stay anymous at 17:7:2 Monday April 22 2002
Just looked at the official site - Go to meet the staff and look at Danielle Luck. Tell you what lads I would. (No doubt better than the 'Dawn' who is always talked about on here - although by her descriptions I think that maybe Clarance might also be better than Dawn)

George Bucks No1 Cobbler at 17:5:3 Monday April 22 2002
Talking of Mr Hodder - He got on my nerves last september/august. My team played in the Worth 5's (We had our pic in the prog at Notts County) and I asked if he could supply some kit for us -as we were representing the Cobblers. He said No as we needed the shirts etc. WELL he didnt mind given the shirts to other teams who werent genuine fans. NO he was quite happy to give them to Rauds Towns 5-a-side tams and a few local sunday teams but as for 'REAL' fans he certainly screwed us over. Not that Im bitter mind you....

George Bucks No1 Cobbler at 16:57:40 Monday April 22 2002
HMMMMMMM. Im not sure about Kevs comments either. 'We will come back firing in July' - does that mean that Hodgey, Lopes and Demmo, will be sacked then? And I thought that they were only contracted until 30 June? Cmon kev could have told the guys first rather than announcing it on the net - bit harsh dont u think. Unless Mr Hodder is on his way?

Not sure why their supporters come on here, do they need reassurance that they are part of the league? I love all sports Northants, but a contrived team - they are welcome to them, when you go into Rushden you would never guess they have a league team, do many people there support them, and I only go to Rushden on Saturday mornings, Ive seen more people in Cobblers shirts. Irthlingborough should be leveled its a scarey place its like the 60s but with no SWING. So what that they have made the playoffs, its a poor league, I love Stevie Howard but if he scored that many goals the other teams must be shite. I think that the standard of the Conference is higher than 2/3 of the teams in the 3rd division hence Cheltenham, Rushden and Kiddiminster being near the top. They will never reach the top league as Northampton once did!! And as for going to Wembley - ha ha - they will never match us!!!

Obviously, the Mighty Cobblers, and the Steelbacks take their coulour from the borough badge. But the county colours are Green, White, and Blue. The takeover will take forever. The council know the value of the ground but won't reveal it:requesting offers instead. This has meant 4 new valuations. Also a number of the bids wish to build a hotel near the ground (another can of worms opened!). One of the best I heard is that Steven Griggs has fallen out with his dad and has tabled a bid.

Richard at 14:1:43 Thursday April 18 2002

Richard take a chill pill young man!!!!! The news about Stonhill is on the official site, and in The Chron. Stonhill will still be a director......it looks like he's just had a gutful to be honest (can u blame him!). Hopefully, this is some manouvre that will herald an imminent takeover.......i wish!

Northampton Town youngster Chris Carruthers has been called into the England Under 21 squad to face Portugal Under 21's tonight. It is thought the youngster impressed under 21 boss David Platt after coming on as a second half substitute in the recent game against Wycombe Wanderers before scoring a 30 yard cross-cum-shot. Platt said "Chrissy impressed me when coming on as a substitute. I think it is the first time a Norrthampton player has played for england at any level".

With your help, we can get this venture off the ground. I was given the idea for this when I found out that Wayne Faraday, the ex QPR player from the 1980's had been arrested in Guatamala for trafficing Cocaine for the Bolivian Mafia, oh how the mighty have fallen. With the help of the proposed center, there will be no need for ex players to resort to such drastic measures in the future. Please contact me via email at duckman345@hotmail.com. thank you for taking the time to read this.

Parking at football is a bastard. The temptation to park on the double yellow lines is always at the back of a football fans narrow mind. However a parking ticket is enforcable at law and could result in life imprisonment and/or a hefty fine.

John Gregory's County Ground Memories at 18:15:10 Monday April 15 2002
INSTALEMENT 1: The occassion that first springs to mind was a home game at the old County Ground against Darlington. There was a great ball over the top and I made one of my rare outings into the oppositons half. I was clean through and baring down on goal, I looked up and saw the 'keeper off his line. I saw the headlines in the next days Cronicle and went for the outragous lob. The ball went so high I think it's still travelling now. Anyway, until next time, this is John Gregory signing out with his County Ground Memoirs

3 2 1! Dusty Bin was a big cobblers fan when we were current. Sadly it started to go wrong when Dusty started to believe his own hype. It was one groupy after another, all the time drinking more and more. The cobblers were his only salvation for a while before the drugs took a hold. By that point, he was beyond redemption, but Id just like to offer a heart felt thanks to you all for making Dusty's life easier when he was having a bad time of it. Again, thank you

Derek Asamoah's tip for blatantly fibbing to your family. at 16:18:45 Monday April 15 2002
I prefer the 'keep calm' posture. A good lie is a concealed lie. Never let on you are hoodwinking, especially your dad. I once told my Dad i was going to play football but instead i was taking out a girl to the cinema. Anyway, my dad knew I was lying as my uncle Habbaballoo clocked me in the foyer buying an ice cream and a pepsi. When I returned home in full cheap adidas kit he belted so hard my willy became erect. I tried to conceal my fib and my embarrassment but my dads reminded me that "you cannot kid a kidder". I spooned it as i broke under the pressure of being found out to be a dishonest amatuerish goal scoring kid. So always keep calm when lying to your family.

The Debit Card Destroyer at 15:8:26 Monday April 15 2002
This site has hit the nail on the head. Of course, Hillsborough was a tragedy of immeasuable propotions, but if the tight scouse gits had of paid in the first place, it wouldnt have happened. but going back to the point about women at football, and the news that Southampton have the most harmonious crowd, well so bloody what. At the Chelsea Fulham game yesterday, there was a rendition of 'We Hate Tottenham', its not pretty, but it made for a great atmosphere. Singing at football is not meant to welcome your visitors, it is meant to make the ground an intimedating place to come to, and therefore win at. Whos got the best pies in the country? Couldnt care less (but it must be us, because Dawn seems to have had a few)

Mr FACT (he tells it like it is) at 14:59:22 Monday April 15 2002
I utterly agree with you Kev Cough from the loft. I cannot abide 'what men can do us women can also do' attitude of the fairer sex. I don't care what anyones says but when it was terracing rammed with p*ssed up lads the atmophere was the envy of the world. FACT. Now we get the odd applause and 3 people singing (badly). This certainly reflects the demise of the game. English football died atHhillsborough. FACT.

LH at 14:56:43 Monday April 15 2002
..... other clubs require transfer fees for these players with prospects. Everbody wants this type of player hence they are not cheap.

LH at 14:55:30 Monday April 15 2002
My point being that unless you can scout a younger player with potential thats been released other clubs

Kev's cough from the Loft at 14:54:56 Monday April 15 2002
Thought I'd pop back just to say a begrudging well down to our poorer friends up the M1. You were dead and buried at Christmas, so again well done. But one other point I must raise is the inclusion of women on this notice board. Women? And football? Surely somethings not right. There is nothing more annoying than a high pitched screach from behind you on a Saturday. And that Dawn says shes in the most expensive seats. Two things. a) that means she is middle class, go to the rugby, the Saints arent bad and b) £26 at the cobblers? Surely thats a typeo

Richard at 14:41:52 Monday April 15 2002
Looks like Asamoah is going to be the next player to be signed, if the future is players like Asamoah and Carruthers, I can see a health future for us. These are the sort of players we need, rather than journeyman has beens. Who else is out of contract?

Richard Tapp at 14:25:23 Monday April 15 2002
Who is better and cheaper, Asamoah or Parkin??? Carruthers or Frain??? etc etc I am sure there are some players out there who are better than the over paid under acheiving ones we have at the moment (Frain, Hodge, Gabbiadini, Marsh and Parkin, could all be released and we could get in 8 really good youngster with 10k a week)

LH at 14:3:31 Monday April 15 2002
Better ,& Younger players are generally not cheaper , therefore unfortunatly out of our pocket.

Richard at 13:59:31 Monday April 15 2002
I have gone through the squad, and I would hope we would be able to keep most of our players and ship out, Frain, Parkin, Gabbiadini, Hodge, Lopes, and Depmsey (this would save us around 10k per week) I am not sure about Marsh, Spedding or McGregor but if we can get better younger and cheaper players in to replace them I think that should be done. People are saying about Welch leaving, is this true and if so when will we have news about who is staying and who is going?

Anon at 13:43:33 Monday April 15 2002
Strange isn't it? We get one of our worse defensive displays of the season and suddenly the Frain knockers have disappeared.

North Stand Just at 12:58:19 Monday April 15 2002
I'm just looking forward to relaxing on Saturday and enjoying a game for the first time in months. There are five or six people we need to keep: definitely Hargreaves, Hunt, and Hope......they'd give us a good strong spine. After that as many changes as possible wouldn't bother me as otherwise next year we could be in this position again. Fair enough the players turned it around but there the players that got us in the poo in the first place (even if Wilsons lack of tactics and people not knowing what they were supposed to do under him contributed!).

Richard at 12:28:16 Monday April 15 2002
So which players will stay and who will go, with Parkin, Hodge leaving we will save £1,200 and £2,800 per week respectivly there. I think Marco should go as well, ok he is skillful but the pace of the game is catching up with him and he's not worth £3,500 per week. Frain is anothe rwith a year still to run and he is on over £1,000 per week, we need to get these players out, along with the players out of contract (Dempsy, Lopes etc) and we need to hang onto Welch, Asamoah and Sammo and use invest wisely in younger players on Bosmans or whatever. If we do keep Forrester and Asamoah we will need to get in a decent target man (ie one who can jump and can get into the oppositions area and score goals) If we can do this, we will I am sure reduce the wage bill and have a younger side, with Kev in charge we can finish midtable, no problem, as the teams coming down and up into Div 2 aren't as good as the ones who came down last year.

Were you at Sixfields last week johnboy? Two of the goals were as a direct result of Roy Hunter's long throws. It seemed to work from where I was sitting!

johnboy at 18:22:38 Sunday April 14 2002
well said george, these new fangled ideas eh.Paying on the gate amazing eh! we were awful on the field but then so were the mongs that sat among us. see you all saturday and if the person who teaches Parkin to jump could also have a little word in gabbadinis ear,and tell him that it falling over every time he gets the ball no longer works with the ref. oh and one final thing, Roy Hunter-stop taking them long throws, IT DOES NOT WORK..

Everyone seems to be assuming that Keith Welch will definitely want to leave. Is this based purely on idle speculation? He is without doubt the best keeper we have had since I started watching - 1975 - and his departure would be a massive blow.

Bloke with a twitch at 17:15:36 Sunday April 14 2002
Must agree tho' George, a strange system, where you go through a turnstile and hand over money, then meet your friends and have a beer, and sit next to whoever you want......It'll never catch on

Terrible game but interesting to note, that it was illegal to run onto the pitch if u were from the south, very strange. Also how come at most away grounds we are treated like adults and allowed to have a beer at half-time,if they did this at sixfields it would mean more money 4 the club, and what was that chaotic system they had at Wigan where your paid on the gate, i mean the confusion and the Q's where terrible, anyway i knew we would survive and let's not have a repeat next time around.Well done Kevan a minor miracle with what he had to work with,p.s can someone please teach Parkin how to jump 4 the ball!!!!!

NTFC@2view at 15:23:52 Sunday April 14 2002
Great. That's the easy bit done. Now Kevan's just got to keep our better players, sign some improvements, sort out the takeover, fight off the threat of Wimbledon, stave off bankruptcy, pay off the PFA, persuade the populace of this fair town to come to Sixfields etc etc. No problem!

what a game, you're so right it was dire, but hey we have played like hero's in the past and got diddlysquat, so yesterday makes up for it. Div 2 next season, excellant

Athena at 8:59:55 Sunday April 14 2002
Broadhurst has done a fantastic job and deserves much praise but dont get carried away. It must have been the worse performance of the season yesterday. We were simply not in the game and were dire. They took the players away for the night so they could be in the best state for the game, well they must have been out on the pisss Friday because they were dire, no fight, no skill no method and damn lucky to get away with just three. Carruthers got a 'glittering future', what as? a pantomime fairy, he was awful, totally out of his depth, mind you Marsh not a lot better. There is much to do if we are not to be in the same place next season. im sure Broadhurst knows this as much as anyone, lets hope somehow he can now get some sort of support to put a team together.'

Great ! Now we can go to Twickenham and watch the Saints thrash London Irish without having to worry about 'phoning up for the Cobblers score every five minutes. i can't believe Notts County could still go down instead of Bournemouth, especially with a hard game against Huddersfield next week. Who have Bournemouth got next week ? As regards the takeover, forget it. Who in their right minds is going to buy the Cobblers given the uncertainty over ITV Digital ? I just hope this doesn't cause us to lose all the players whose contracts are up at the end of the season i.e. Sammo. Let's hope we don't make the same mistake as with Ray Warburton.

Dawns Doctor, (Dr Patel from Corby) at 18:24:33 Saturday April 13 2002
Hello my friends. Mt patient is not fat but grossly above average weight. She does however possess a strange medical condition called 'Iadettism'. This recently new medical phenomenen is where a woman (over-weight) has to explore all and undertake all things male. Traditional undertakings normally practised by the male gender are ruthlessly pursued by wonen. Football, beer and fighting are now considered very female. Dawn was diagnosed as a ladette in 1982 when she had a bizarre urge to attend a cobblers match. Dawn can be spotted at Cobblers games, fag on, and shouting at the referee. Closer examination will conclude she is actually as woman and not freak.

Sid the sexist at 18:8:30 Saturday April 13 2002
....bloddy right Mr Fact. I think that Dawn is only at the games to have one eye on players legs and the other eye on the burger van as she is over-weight. I am not a Northampton fan myself but I would like to congratulate all genuine (excluding Dawn etc.) on your survival.

I will stick my original deductions that Dawn (the yawn) does highlight a sad reality that our beautiful game has been feminised. I am delighted that my beloved cobblers are to be in division 2 next season. I did say all season that it was a FACT that we would stay up. I shall be heading toward mt girlfriends local tavern sporting my long sleeve cobblers top where i shall drink and toast our accomplishment. It is also a fact that tomorrow I shall be collecting some cash from my mates who bet (silly amounts) of cash that we would be relegated. We shall kick arse next season, FACT, and let's hope the likes of Dawn the yawn return to tennis or even sillier, netball.

A Childs View at 11:21:30 Saturday April 13 2002
Let's hope we are safe at 5 o'clock and that next Saturday becomes meaningless. Bury away at Pooboro - I can't see them trying too hard to beat Bury and thus ensure our survival for us!! Still, we should beat Cambridge if it comes to it, its just the unknown pressure factor that could come into play. Interesting debate about Man U below, whilst they have a lot of bandwagonners, they also have a massive local support from within Manchester. I was lucky enough to ponce a free ticket for their game against Spurs when they won the treble and the only United fans I spoke with were genuine Mancs, its not their fault if the club has become massive and attracted fans from the world over, the fact remains there is a massive local support for the Reds - I was amazed, I've always disliked Man U but left that day with a different impression - Man U are like other clubs in that they have local support and identity, the way in which they are different is everything else they've achieved. I..........

North Stand Just at 9:15:36 Friday April 12 2002
Dawn rivalry is pretty much the lifeblood of football......the passion is wot makes the game so exciting. not meatheads trying to push eachothers faces through but a bit of banter with the opposition fans (which creates an atmosphere) is what makes the game more exciting. all the big games are made all the bigger for this (england vs. germany, celtic vs rangers, man u vs. liverpool and cobblers vs. pooboro' (ahem!). without that excitement our sport would be very dull with every game basically played between anonymous teams in a sterile ground with polite handclapping. in the meantime can everyone make an effort to go to http://www.saveourclubs.org/.

One of the best things about supporting the Cobbs is that you actually feel part of the club.

Rodders at 19:45:5 Thursday April 11 2002
Wholeheartedly agree with Drilling Cobbler. Man City fans tend to have a geographical tie/link to Manchester whereas Utd fans are usually - not always - people who have chosen to follow the team because of the club's history and/or media hype. I for one am not jealous of United's success because it comes at such a high price. Like Disney or McDonalds it is a faceless, soulless institution which lacks something. Even Ferguson describes the OT atmosphere as "like a morgue".

I was idly flicking through the final home programme for last season and noticed an 'advert' for a fans' forum where BS would be answering questions about a possible takeover. A year on and nothing has changed. While I appreciate the fact that Sixfields complicates things, why is it that a club such as York can be taken over in a matter of weeks and in our case it will have been months/years of uncertainty?

TDC, I agree you can support who you chose to for whatever reasons, and not change suddenly because of success, but I still would not go so far as some earlier comments as to hating (and vigourously) other teams and their supporters. That is when it ceases to be a game we all enjoy and starts to get a bit nasty.

M wead your mail Then i'm off.

The Drilling Cobbler at 19:14:52 Thursday April 11 2002
Interesting that you claim jealously is the reason why people hate Man utd Dawn. Why is it that every Man u fan claims the same? Everyone who supports a football team has at some point in their lives chosen to support that particular team, wether it be Northampton Town, Man utd or whoever. Every non Man U fan had the same option - and could therefore have supported Man Utd if they had so wished. I HATE Man utd for all of the well documented reasons which I cannot be bothered to list, but does that make me jealous? I think not. I could of quite simply become a 'Utd' fan just like you did, but chose not to mainly because I have no affinity with the area. Winning trophys had nothing to do with my decision process on who to follow. As a young boy interested in football, I just felt it natural to support my local league team. For the same reasons as I support England. Jealousy is being envious of something one cannot have. And anyone of us could have been a Man Utd bandwagon follower!

Dawn at 14:49:21 Thursday April 11 2002
NSJ, I din;t know that was an imposter did I. Anyway good luck Saturday, and you one of the ones taking a drum along, it should be a great party for you when celebrating staying up.

North Stand Just at 14:46:7 Thursday April 11 2002
Well how rude Dawn....that was an imposter! If everybody says ur the biggest Man U fan in the world can we get back to talking about the cobblers? Would ur inferiority complex be salved some then?

Dawn at 14:42:14 Thursday April 11 2002
sorry, phone rang, I'll finish now. I still follow the Cobblers results and I'm as certain as I'm a ManU fan that they will stay in Div 2

Dawn at 14:40:46 Thursday April 11 2002
OK I've tried mailing you, get's rejected, if you're going to put your address on, at least put the right one. Sad little person, but I still follow the Cobblers

North Stand Just at 14:35:59 Thursday April 11 2002
Can't find me calculator, but by my reckonin' you have wasted the best part of £500 quid. You could have paid Marco's boot polish bill with that money, sort yourself out girl. I suggest we take this off line, mail me

Dawn, last time I checked I was a bloke, but hey in this day n age, yo never know!

Dawn, I suggest you put your 'purse' back into your handbag and hold it up in fron of you and say 'oooooohhhhhhhh'. calm down, calm down. D'you know what, I would really love it, I would really love it, if Arsenal were to beat you, I would just love it

Dawn at 14:30:24 Thursday April 11 2002
To M, no of course that does not make you a bad person, it makes you a FOOTBALL fan, with your routes with the Cobblers, good on ya girl.

Dawn at 14:28:22 Thursday April 11 2002
You do read too many Newspapers, did I say I have only been to one game, that is actually my 21st home game of the season including Champions League, with my Champ League Semi Ticket on order, and my MUFC v Arsenal ticket in my purse as we speak. Your the good one at maths then work that one out, Carol Voderman.

M at 14:26:42 Thursday April 11 2002
steady on, we're all her to support the Town, I like Leeds, that doesn't make me a bad person, does it?

North Stand Just at 14:24:51 Thursday April 11 2002
Simple arithmetic love I pay £280 x1 that's a total of £280.....you pay £26 x 1 for your one game a year....total of £26. Not rocket science is it? I guess you probably pay £6.00 a month for MUFCTV as well. Now how much for the prawn sandwiches on top of that lol. However much u spend on a seat is irrelevant its if you are there thats the important thing.

Dawn at 14:20:52 Thursday April 11 2002
I actually sit in the opposite the dug out, in the "Dearest Seats" in the ground at £26.00. This is a discussion you will never actually come out on top off.

North Stand Just at 14:18:42 Thursday April 11 2002
I sit in the North Stand cos I prefer the atmosphere......where do you sit at Old Trafford then....or d'you have an armchair seat like all the other plastic mancs in Brighton??? :-)

M at 14:14:7 Thursday April 11 2002
As a Cobbler fan I tend to agree, North Stand are cheapest seats in the house!. I'm a West Stander myself

Dawn at 14:12:52 Thursday April 11 2002
Well actually North Stand Boy, I was a West Stander Upper Tier supporter not a North Stand Cheap Seater, if you support your beloved Cobblers that much show that with hard cash, and pay for a top notch seat.............

North Stand Just at 13:53:50 Thursday April 11 2002
Ha Ha Ha. Now we're supposed to contact the prem teams to ask them to support us in our fight with ITV...ha ha ha ha ha......that's a good one that is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't it interesting that more people got to nationwide games than prem games yet we only ever hear about prem news (i blame the plastic mancs and scousers for that too)?

9224 at 13:44:56 Thursday April 11 2002
*sorry ...the biggest clubs wanted...

9224 at 13:42:28 Thursday April 11 2002
The Premier League, of course, was founded on the basis of greed - the biggest club wanted a far larger share of TV revenue. For this reason I view the entire Prem with disgust. Funny how ITV will honour its deal with that division. George Best in the Sunday Mail said "it would benefit the sport to lose a few clubs" - this sums up the selfish, small-minded view of most things associated with big clubs! The inception of the Prem was the biggest threat to the continued existence of football as we know it in this country - the people responsible for that monster should carry the blame!

Dawn at 12:55:16 Thursday April 11 2002
I have been a Utd fan since 1982, and due to lack of availibility of tickets (even for members), I became a Season Ticket Holder at NTFC, a couple of seasons ago, thus guarranteeing to see a Live Game at least every two weeks. I personally view other Premiership Teams with more hatred than any Nationwide Team (Other than Man City of course). And if I supported my local team instead of Man U, I would actually be a Motherwell Fan. (But that's another story).

To EBay auctions at 12:52:49 Thursday April 11 2002
Not if you want a Bury prog it isnt!

North Stand Just at 12:44:26 Thursday April 11 2002
Hey Dawn y did u used to be a cobblers season ticket and now ur a man u fan???????? I don't like man u because of the complete disdain that they hold for all lower league teams (didn't we send them a letter as a club asking for help when we were in real difficulty and they never even bothered to reply???). If everyone supported their local team instead of the biggest in the country football would generally be in a much healthier state, instead we're stuck with glory hunters who watch a team once in their life (at best) and laugh at everything outside the prem.

M at 12:13:33 Thursday April 11 2002
Dawn, you shouldn't worry about being a ManU fan, there are loads of them about, but you should get to the Cobblers game more often, they are of course on your door step, try the Cambridge game, that should be a good one! and if you've got an instrument, why not bring that as well

Dawn at 12:4:8 Thursday April 11 2002
I am a Man Utd fan, but will always look out for the Cobblers score and was once a season ticket holder. I do not hate the, Why would you hate Man U, what reason have you Mr Anon to hate them so much. Jealousy me thinks. And I was at the game last night before you start on that route of part time supporter and all that.

There is a programme from the Good Friday game which was a sell out on Yahoo auctions if any collectors are interested.

Anon at 8:40:14 Thursday April 11 2002
Im not a Man U fan I hate them but you have to feel for David Beckham today after that horrific tackle which left him with a broken foot. I can't believe tho that the player got away unpunished. Lets hope he's fit for the World Cup. Isn't it coincidence though thaty it was an Argentinian player who did it. They obviously don't fancy there chances in the World Cup if we they play against Beckham. THERE'S ONLY ONE DAVID BECKHAM ONE DAVID BECKHAM. (Why not replace him with Chris Carruthers).

Who cares a stuff! at 9:24:40 Wednesday April 10 2002
Who cares about G Thompson and KW, they are our past, when the histories are rewrote GT will he get even a mention, and KW what did he do, brought us out the crap Division 3 (well other teams lets us get out by a miracle), he is the person responsible if we do get relegated, the guy was not a manager, he was one of the lads, so fits in with the comments about the Rovers players being on the piss the night b4 games, those 2 will never return to the Cobblers. The Conference is a tougher league and has probably more money that 90% of the 3rd division clubs, half of them need to pack up, no wonder the Premiership ignores the lower leagues. Halifax please do not return, you wont, what a nightmare there on a winters day.

North Stand Just at 9:5:1 Wednesday April 10 2002
Northampton Gas isn't that a bit harsh. I heard half ur players were going through the motions and just playing their contracts out. Apparently a couple of them have been going out on the lash the night b4 games......not really the managers fault hey??? U guys should be doing better than u have this year though....doesn't seem more than yesterday we had our battle in the play-offs!

Northampton Gas at 0:46:49 Wednesday April 10 2002
Garry Thompson AND Kevin Wilson have been sacked. Hope we are not going for Ian Atkins as a replacement. *s*

9224 at 0:34:2 Wednesday April 10 2002
I've been to Rovers a few times this season and am surprised that Thompson's gone, especially after they gave him a two-year deal when Gerry Francis returned. He hasn't done as well as KB under financial restrictions but he inherited a truly awful (and huge) squad of players (Broadhurst just inherited a small, crocked squad) and had to sell the jewell in the crown. As for our out-of-contract lot, in an ideal world I'd like to see them all stay plus a couple of additions - sadly the world is not ideal, not every club has a sugar-daddy or a world-wide merchandising operation and is able to buy whatever it wants!!!

Sean from London at 23:31:50 Tuesday April 9 2002
To Northampton Gas - It is a real shame about Garry. Are you promoting Kevin Wilson to manager?

Hargreaves, Hunt and Welch would all be badly missed. Hargreaves is surely our player of the year.

Players out of contract: Welch, Sampson, Hargreaves, Hunt, Hunter, Asamoah, Hodge, Lopes, Dempsey. Clearly the last three will be freed. I hope the others will all be resigned. Contrary to Teamtalk "facts", Forrester has another year left, as do Gabbiadini, Hope, Spedding, Burgess, Frain, Marsh, Sollitt, and Lavin. Carruthers has now singned for two years.

If Davey Beckham scores that everyone waxes lyrical for days - get him in the England squad Sven, and Welchy, it'll mean you don't have to take Calamity James and it'll solve your left-sided problems!!!!! Not goal of the season though - that has to be Asamoah's against QPR - that was class!!

Knocked Knee Chicken at 14:50:57 Monday April 8 2002
I dont think any one is slagging Frain off, we all admired his many qualities and past contribution but every dog has his day, and Frain should have listened to the Psycho interview when he announced his retirement and the reasons why, and yes I know a different division, but 2 different players.

Hotel Boot walk at 14:48:55 Monday April 8 2002
I stand by my comments about Hunter, if you know anything about what was happening at the time it was psychological thing, after the injury, and no premier clubs will be sniffing around for him, particularly as he is playing out of position

PATTCOBB at 14:26:37 Monday April 8 2002
This might seem petty and pedantic but...... At all other grounds the minutes silence was respectfully rounded off by a the mournful sound of the national anthem ringing out (it certainly was at Reading last Monday), but did you really think the two idiots that pass as matchday djs together with Pete Smith could manage something so complicated instead we had silence announced before the players had lined up followed by a mighty roar at the end of the minute, presumably because the sad pair of ...... couldn't find or be bothered to find a copy of the national anthem. I am not particularly a royalist, i merely point this episode out to highlight the inadaquacy of the pre and half time entertainment at Sixfields

LH at 13:30:46 Monday April 8 2002
Judge Frain's merits when he is fit . End of discussion.

9224 at 9:30:47 Monday April 8 2002
This now constant abuse of John Frain is totally unfounded. The bloke always gives 100% and plays a vital role in centre midfield - his experience is an asset and his set piece delivery is better than most (McGregor and even Hargreaves to name two) He is tough as old boots and is the kind of player you want on your side. As for Hunter, I thought he was superb second half yesterday, he played with confidence, showed skill and determination and really looked like the Hunter that had the Prem sniffing round him four years ago. IMHO he ran Hargreaves close for MoM. Drop Marsh? You must be joking!

North Stand Just at 9:18:24 Monday April 8 2002
Oh my God why are people knoecking Parkin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's come on loads since the start of the season. His holding up of the ball is excellent: how many times has he got three men around him and still managed to get the ball to a cobblers player!!!!!!!!!!! In the first half he was running everything down when others weren't really looking like making an effort. Nice to see another competent referee too lol. I could have done better than that with a blindfold on and cheese in my ears. As for knocking Hunter don't make me laugh! He was at his best with Parrish four years ago in the third but that was third division football when it was chocka with really poor teams. He put in some great challenges on Saturday and his throws are getting more accurate....he's getting back to his best with passing as well.

Anon at 1:13:45 Monday April 8 2002
Zimmer is the best footballer's nickname I have heard in years. So apt that it is bound to stick. It also answers the question as to what exactly he has been quote holding in midfield unquote.

Gus at 22:48:23 Sunday April 7 2002
Hotel Boot Walk - what do you mean Hunter's 'phantom' injury? This time 2 seasons ago, he was on crutches! He took the best part of last season to recover. I agree that he lacks something from the Hunter of old but to suggest that he has been leadswinging when he has overcome a very serious and career-threatening injury is just ridiculous.

Neil at 21:20:48 Sunday April 7 2002
From ntfconline: "Chris Carruthers scores his first senior goal from 40 yards." Was it just me, or was it slightly closer than that?! CC of course told me last night that it was a shot, which I now agree with having seen it on T.V. this evening. But even he didn't try to tell me that he struck it from 40 yards!!

Hotel Boot Walk at 14:48:3 Sunday April 7 2002
Yes I agree Marsh was dire for most of the game, as was most of the team in the first half, ive nothing against Frain, the only way he would play is if the Cobblers get relegated. Players for next season if they want to stay Welch, Burgess (was not a fan at staert/he was injured), Sammo (for his experience), Hope, Forrester, Hargreaves (our best player by a mile), Del Boy, Carruthers - the rest are wasting everyones time, im a Gabbi fan but his got a better future on the stage, Hodgy too incosistent, Hunter (secret throw in weapon - poor distance compared to others) hes never got back before he had his phantom injury, Spedding no comment, Parkin just will never get it - has improved by 2%, Marsh - just not sure, well thats it - 2 points for another day in paradise!!

KC at 14:16:24 Sunday April 7 2002
Personally i agree that Carruthers should be playing on the left and Marsh on the right with Hunter in the centre,it gives the team more balance and also they all then play in their natural positions!

NTFC@2view at 14:7:35 Sunday April 7 2002
Moany. You wouldn't play Marsh? Rather glad it's Mr Broadhurst who picks the team. I hope that young Carruthers gets another chance, but he's still a lad. One bad game, give away a goal like at Bristol, and he'll be destroyed by the same people praising him today for a very good half-game.

moany from west at 13:57:4 Sunday April 7 2002
ive never been frainys biggest fan and he did have another poor game yesterday however he did get his foot in at times when others definately would have bottled it and despite what we all think of him i cant say he was any worse than anyone else in the 1st half i for one thought marsh at left back was absouloutely shocking and i wonder how we would have looked hunter right back frain left back and cc left mid

9224 at 13:41:5 Sunday April 7 2002
See what happens when we put decent crosses in and have a bit of width!!! All season we've been playing Hargreaves and McGregor out of position and there's been no quality ball into the box. A bit of decent service from a natural wide player could have paid dividends but no, he was sat on the bench because his face didn't fit!

on the subject of carruthers, Atkins or willo would have scared the poor boy into doing things their way, thus destroying his potential, (ali gibb?) but KB seems to give him more freedom to do what he does best rather than struggle to conform to a strict role, this may explain the fearlessness he displayed yesterday, hes not afraid to have a shot is he???

NSB at 12:53:50 Sunday April 7 2002
Why was Gabbo awful yesterday? i thought he wasa the only one to come out of the first half with any credit, it doesnt allways pay off but at least he his trying to make play instead of just smacking the ball upfield, it just seems that most of his better passes go wasted because his team mates arent able to read them, as is often the problem with the team there is a lack of communication. I think the biggest part of our comeback in the second half was that we hit back early. so often when we go behind we never manage to get back in it, this time we equalised early in 2nd half and bloody crushed them.

Rob Dunkley at 11:56:9 Sunday April 7 2002
Only thing is when Frain plays as the defensive midfielder it allows Hunt to attack to good effect. Carruthers though should be a regular at either left back or left wing!

Mark at 11:44:31 Sunday April 7 2002
How on Earth John Frain keep his place after that second half performance by CC? Playing him at left back allows Marsh and Hunter to play in their stronger postions. Frain just isn't good enough in midfield.

Anon at 11:17:59 Sunday April 7 2002
Not at all strange, he went on to explain exactly why Frain would be in any their sides, didn't you listen to it all?

Anon at 10:35:0 Sunday April 7 2002
Strange that in the after match comments, Broadhust said that Frain would be the first player in any of the other players teams... but what do they know about football? Why not come on here and read what the real experts think.

A Childs View at 9:49:14 Sunday April 7 2002
I didn't read all of your commeny properly Bert, I agree Frain isn't the cause of all ills, but, I wouldn't play him in midfield under any circumstances. Other than, agree entirely - Gabbi was looking for too many fouls yesterday, stay on your feet and try and play!!

A Childs View at 9:43:29 Sunday April 7 2002
...awarded Man of the Match. One player we definitely don't want to lose! Well done KB, I'm still not your biggest fan but have to say well done for your achievement. We are now 95% certain to stay up. Our goal difference is better than Bury's and I can't see them picking up the required points. Even if we don't get another point I think we'll be ok. I'll get slated for these next comments but who cares - it wasn't management decisions that lead to Jamie coming on at Reading (after which we looked more comfortable) and, without Frain's injury, would we have changed the balance of the team to such good effect yesterday? That said, KB is still learning and, despite my nit picking, he can be rightly proud of the brilliant job he's done. The next challenge, if he's still around, is to survive next year (if we don't get took over) and, if we do, to see what he can achieve with a bit of money. Whatever, it'll be interesting!!

A Childs View at 9:35:45 Sunday April 7 2002
Bert - spot on comment! I've been screaming for weeks that Marsh should be at right back, Hunter central and someone at left back. I'd been saying Frain when Carruthers was injured but yesterday just showed how balance can help a team. Carruthers had a brilliant half. Another ket fact was that Frainy was played in between Hunt and Hargreaves which separated the two solid players. Also, all three of them are lefties which, with Marsh (right-footed) at full back draws the play in-side too much. I disagree with those who have been slating Frain, but, against Reading and Wycombe he did look short. Don't forget though, he's playing through the pain every game until he has his groin operation. That said, even fully fit the time has surely come for CC to take the left back spot and move Roy to the middle. Marshy prefers the right as well - EVERYBODY'S APPY!!! Apart from Parkin, the whole team were magnificent 2nd half. Chrissy Hargreaves' performance was rightly awarded man of the match......

Bert at 9:4:31 Sunday April 7 2002
As usual the quick to criticise have missed the point completely. Yes, the performance improved beyond recognition in the second half but this was due to the more balanced nature of the team with Marsh on the right, Hunter in midfield and the brilliant Carruthers on the left. It was brought about by the injury to Frain but has nothing to do with his performance in the first half. I would like to see that line-up maintained with Frain holding the midfield allowing Hunt and Hargreaves to go forward instead of the godawful Gabbo. All he does nowadays is whinge and look for non-existent fouls. At least make it look authentic Gabbo. Some of your dives were shameful yesterday.

Snake at 2:50:34 Sunday April 7 2002
there is no place for Frain I'm sorry.

Bloke with a twitch at 22:53:48 Saturday April 6 2002
See the big difference after half time? Injured or not, Zimmer Frain has had his day. I don't want to see him in a Cobblers shirt again.

Paul S at 20:25:23 Saturday April 6 2002
NSB - I think it had something to do with Carruthers - he gave us width and pace and scared their defence.

NSB at 19:27:53 Saturday April 6 2002
Quite right paddy cobbler, depressing sometimes, but never a dull moment with this club! Im suprised we dont all get bloody heart attacks!

NSB at 19:25:38 Saturday April 6 2002
What a spectacular second half display! Where on earth did all that confidence suddently appear from? We went from looking like pish to playing flowing passing goal scoring football, quite incredible, two more performances like that would do nicely!

Paddy Cobbler at 18:46:40 Saturday April 6 2002
Wonderful result today. Destiny well & truly in our own hands now. Even with my poor math I make it 3 pts guarantees us survival. Over 30 yrs supporting this club its hardly ever been easy but never ever dull. Well done Celtic too. Rounds my day off nicely

I'm a bit concerned from the info on the official site that if Sammo gets booked tomorrow then both he and Burgess will be suspended for the Cambridge game, suggests to me that not only must we win tomorrow, the Wigan game also becomes a must win fixture.

Hey everyone once again. I was hoping for a few more responses to my lift share plan. As I said previously I travel regularly from Bristol to see the Cobblers and it would be nice to share a lift. I am somewhat supprised that there are no supporters between Bristol and Northants

Bit over the top anon, I've had a season ticket since I was 13 and been to about 10 away games this year. It's also an 80 mile round trip for every home game!! My point is merely that loyalty has a price, it can never be unconditional - the board of any football club would do well to remember that!! I remember the dark days at NTFC when, at times, all you could do was not go to games in the hope that you helped it get worse quicker so it could hit bottom and ultimately recover!! I'll be there next season whatever, but everybody has a limit - without a takeover next season could be very painful indeed, peoples Saturdays and money are precious, you can't just waste them on a totally lost cause.

No Burgess for the last game against Cambridge - suspended. Still, Hope will be an able deputy so we should have enough. I'm still a bit worried though - Cambridge not won away all season, they're bound to on the last day against us!! I'd love to be safe irrespective of the result of that game - it could happen, the others have pretty tough run-ins! Takeover? Anything happening? I'll keep my season ticket money until I know thanks. 9 players out of contract, a want away board, ITV digital and a transfer embargo - it looks like a tought one without new ownership.

A Childs View at 22:42:48 Monday April 1 2002
Yeah - great point today and could have stolen 3 in a fashion similar to that when Savvo scored!! Good team performance apart from, dare I say it, Frain who looked totally ill equiped for the game. I've defended him stoutly on here over recent weeks, however, today he had a shocker. Curious decisions from KB, however, arguably vindicated by the fact we got a point. I could accept 541, but why not Frain at left back, Marsh at right back and Hunter in the middle - we'd have had better balance and 3 players in their right position. Asa did more in 10 minutes than Parkin did all match - including winning more headers!!! Rest of the team did very well, especially the three centre backs who were magnificent! Only down side was Brentford letting us down at Bury. Still, its in our hands and with 3 games left against teams with nothing to play for we can only lose it ourselves. I have one worry - home to Cambridge who haven't won away all season for the last match - it'd be typical Cobblers....

Rodney at 19:17:54 Monday April 1 2002
"Northampton defended very well and made it difficult for us". Pardew's post match comment aptly sums up why KB HAS done such a good job for us. KW had little tactical nous and the new man constantly analyses everything. It is still going to be an uphill battle but if we do pull it off then KB deserves the freedom of Northampton. PS Barry's comments this morning were harsh; our gates are well over 5000, never mind 4000.

Prepare to be surprised Rodders, it is a done deal. Besides, we can hardly call it "our patch" when only 4000 bother to turn up every week?

Rodders at 11:8:25 Monday April 1 2002
This Wimbledon/Saints secret deal will only affect the Cobblers if we go down and they go up. No one will bother going to the Gardens for Wimbledon v Crewe. However, Wimbledon v Arsenal...Somehow I find it hard to believe that the FL will allow them to move into 'our patch'.

The postings from DR4E sound like that of a child. It is Easter holidays after all. Maybe when he goes back to school he'll take his immature ramblings with him? Well we can all live in hope can't we?

DR4E at 10:10:17 Monday April 1 2002
Maybe uncle Max will let you groundshare with us next season. NOT.

Loyal supporter DR4..........You could not manage 1.1/4 hour journey on your horse and cart ? Team in a play-off place take 300-350..........what a joke Cardiff is further so if you make the play-off final you might manage about 150. ha ha ha
