You wife is dribbling? We should sign her up to train Ali Gibb!
TRB Mark at 11:2:54 Sunday August 31 97
0-2! What an excellent result. Even more heartening is the manner in which we are playing after the Bournemouth hiccup. Everyone one sez we would go straight back down but I tell people we will be a hard team to beat . Next Saturdays game V Luton should be a cracker with a big gate. I'm especially looking forward to it as my stepson Giles is mascot and my wife is dribbling at the thought of meeting David Seal who has replaced Ian Clarkson at the head of her Cobblers players lust list. God, women are sooo fickle! Whaddya reckon Nadine? Anyway, this assuming we have negotiated the B'ham section of the M6 for the Walsall game........

Just popped in to say "hello", also nice new look to your page Ray, and also good luck to The Cobblers for thr rest of the season, i hope you do well!

One more point after today's game. If the wankers at the back of the stand want to slag Rob Marshall - for all the faults of the fanzine - just remember he stood there through thick and thin - come and have a go you spotty faced arseholes! I'm in seat West Stand L112 and you'll get a smack of the zit.
Kevin Simons at 21:52:27 Saturday August 30 97
The Cobblers today were simply brilliant: the most commmanding performance we've seen since the 1986 promotion side. It was that good Cralisle supporters were leaving half way through the second half! Seal's first was great, his second an overhaed kick (when was the last time a Cobblers' player scored with an overhead?) And then a thirty pass move in the second half when Carlisle couldn't get a lace near the ball which ended with Frain's cracker fizzing an over the bar. As one of Atkins' fiecest critics, I eat my hat...go to Walsall on Tuesday, you missed out today.
Ray at 21:26:37 Saturday August 30 97
Where the hell is everyone? The Cobblers win 2 - Nil and no comments?
Ray at 20:52:9 Friday August 29 97
Just to let Steve know that I now have nestled in my China Cabinet, mug number 538.
Kevin Simons at 12:48:35 Friday August 29 97
Had we gone for a 30 seater the cost would have been closer to 70 quid, but (a) I didn't want the hassle of organising it and (b) I didn't think that many people would be interested. And, no it doesn't include a pie.
Ray at 19:3:47 Thursday August 28 97
..... and does the £200 include a pie at half time? :-)
Gareth at 16:18:45 Thursday August 28 97
Sorry, was that £200 for a seat on the plane? And I thought £27.50 by
train from Sheffield was a lot! A nice idea though. I'd have been interested if it was cheaper.
Kevin Simons at 13:12:19 Thursday August 28 97
If anyone is interested we've chartered a 7 seat aircraft for the game at Carlisle on Saturday, leaving Birmingham at 1:00 and coming back straight after the game, should be back in BHX by 6-6:30. We've got 2 spare seats @ £200 a seat. I can be contacted at work on 01442-224269 or at home on 01604-781358. This after missing the bus for last night's game.
FEd up Harpenden Cobbler at 22:33:17 Wednesday August 27 97
Good news Millwall missed /Woodie saved three penalties after extra time
Bad news we missed FOUR penalties, Frain, Seal, Hunter, Gibb.
Ray at 19:3:11 Wednesday August 27 97
Well Darren, if he stays here (as appears likely) he should stand a reasonable chance - lol!
Darren Jones at 13:56:55 Wednesday August 27 97
WEll Well, You lucky bunch of northern pigeon flying, lard eating Buggers. Why the F&$% did we, sorry I mean John Ward, let David Seal play against for you on Saturday, you must have been in hysterics. I don't really want the Aussie bush tucker man to leave so hopefully, after Saturday, John Ward will pull his head out of his Ass and get him back down ASHTON GATE playing some decent football in Division 1 next season.
T. at 10:32:59 Wednesday August 27 97
The new set up confused me I thought I'd broken the computer or pressed the wrong buttons.
Good luck to the lads tpnight at Milwall, after last night's results I think we're in for quite a few goals. Is any one going ?
T. at 10:29:52 Wednesday August 27 97
I've got a new E-mail address as from today. Thanks for the mail Nadine and Six (who sent it in July and I've only just discovered it). I sent you both mail yesterday but it got returned I promise i'll try again. Nadine is Six still having problems with his computer(s)?

denis at 22:10:14 Tuesday August 26 97
I was also around for our sorte into the old 1st division. The game against Portsmouth the previous season was a landmark for portsmaouths Jimmy Dickinson as he broke the appearance record, It also ensured the Cobblers were promoted to Div 1 and Pompey stayed in Div2. What memories.PS do like the new improved site. Keep up the good work.

What made our win extra special on Saturday was Diamonds and Burnley losing and them both at the bottom of their tables so I can wind a few people up at the cricket club. Ta-Ra until tomorrow . Send me some E-mail please

I had the centenary video for my B'day it was excellent now my dad's borrowed it and won't give it back he's gone all nostalgic about the sixties and moaning about the bits they didn't include
T. at 9:30:48 Tuesday August 26 97
great to see Larry on the score sheet twice last night. We was robbed. He's worth far more than twenty grand. Shame that kettering lost and diamonds got their first goal and point of the season still they are still BOTTOM of the table . Diamonds play Hereford on Saturday October 11th or 18th can't remember which but we are definitely away that day.

Hey Ray- nice to meet you at the balloon festival-any chance of putting my CCCC (Cobblers Centenary Christmas Card ) on your Web page? 50% of the profit goes to the Club (via the Trust)
Ray at 11:47:27 Sunday August 24 97
** Chuckle ** - gotcha! Are any of the proceeds going to the club? Do you have a piccie you would like putting on the site (together with a price)? Do you have a site? Alternatively - I can write one for you - see http://www.jojo.co.uk for an example (plug!)
Steve at 10:58:49 Sunday August 24 97
Oh dear, Ray. It looks like I've been rumbled. But don't confuse the beautifully crafted bone china mugs (Limited to only 999) in that fine emporium in St. Giles Street with any ropey old pottery imitations that you might find elsewhere!
Do you remember 1964 (I think it was) Cobblers 7 Halifax 0?
Ray at 0:29:57 Sunday August 24 97
Just looking at your email address Steve, you wouldnt be referring to Church's by any odd chance?
Ray at 0:17:41 Sunday August 24 97
Yep - I remember them all - and a few from the previour few seasons. Are the mugs you refer to the "Centenary " mugs? They are good aren't they? They are also for sale in the Cobbs Shop - I purchased one and then decided it was too good to use!
Steve at 20:52:8 Saturday August 23 97
First visit to the site. It is excellent.
I'm one of those much reviled "fair weather" supporters. I can only go occasionally, because (a) I work on Saturdays and
(b) If I go, all 4 kids want to go too - could you afford it?
A few tedious memories - I was only 10 and saw all but 4 home games in 1965/66.
I WAS THERE......
when the Cobblers played their last home game of the 64/65 season (against Portsmouth) and at the end of the game Theo, Brian and the lads did a lap of honour.
when the Cobblers beat Leeds 2-1 at home - Barry Lines and George Hudson scoring against a team containing Bremner, Sprake, Charlton e.t.c.
when the Cobblers beat Sunderland 2-1 at home after being 1-0 down, to give themselves a chance of staying up. Who could forget the sight of Mike Everitt sitting on Sunderland's Charlie Hurley as the Cobbs. scored their winning goal.
when the Cobblers drew 0-0 at home to Liverpool - the match which saw the most amazing end-to-end dribble by Franny Walden only for him to collapse with exhaustion on the penalty spot.
when the Cobblers played Chelsea at home on Boxing Day, only to lose 3-2 - a great game.
when we lost 4-2 at home to Fulham in the last home match of the season. Who would have thought that Fulham's most influential player would go on to coach England and Barcelona.
when we lost away to Blackpool - my first ever away game - needing a win to have any chance of staying up. Blackpool got a penalty when their carrot-topped 18 year old left winger dived outrageously. 2 months later, he'd won a World Cup medal at Wembley. I wept uncontrollably all the way home.
when the most common chant was "2-4-6-8 Who do We Appreciate? C - O - DOUBLE B - L - E - R - S COBBLERS!"
HAVE YOU SEEN THOSE GREAT COBBLERS WEMBLEY MUGS ON SALE IN THAT SHOP IN ST. GILES STREET?

Rob to Nadine at 8:51:45 Tuesday August 19 97
Nadine, boy have I stumbled onto something!
Do the cobblers wear lycra? is that why you like football so much ?
Smudger at 13:4:13 Monday August 18 97
I'm back ! Firstly, I have to say I was impressed by the number of fans you brought down. I was also completly wrong with the match prediction. Thje way I saw the game was we had the vast majority of the play but Northampton had all the clear-cut chances. If only you had a decent striker then you would have beaten us 2 or 3 nil.
The combination of John Gayle and David Seal didn't look to impressive (The word Cart-Horses springs to mind). Your numbers 2 & 8 (don't remember their names) where total wa@!ers who tried to wind up Super Stevie Brown all afternoon by constantly fouling him and giving him loads of lip. Just because he is clearly a much better player doesn't give them the right to hack away at your former idol !
I still believe that you will struggle this season because your predictable style of long ball hoof via donkey Gayle will not succeed at this level !
At least we tried to play Football even though your lot only seemed interested in hacking away at our more gifted players every time we looked creative. Fulham did exactly the same against us last week and it worked for them as well.
See you later in the season at your new ground
nadine to Rob at 12:18:29 Monday August 18 97

The 'other' Mark at 21:40:59 Saturday August 16 97
Oh dear smudger, we got that one wrong didn't we. 0-0, and from the reports i heard, Sean Parrish missed a sitter towards the end.
As Gareth said we are not the duffers some people think we are,and in Ian Atkins we have, it would seem a very shrewd manager whose decisions, although sometimes not popular, are more often than not, spot on.
nadine at 15:52:48 Saturday August 16 97
I have aplogies from Six but as he has managed to crash two computers he no longer has internet access - any messages to be passed on through me!
Gareth at 10:36:38 Friday August 15 97

Thanks for your concern, but I think we will do ok this season.
We have brought quite a few new players into the squad and they
are settling in. Once we find what works we'll be ok. It clicked
in the second half against Milwall on Tuesday, and if we can
maintain and build on that you'd better watch out.
we are not the duffers a few people think we are. We had a
bad start to last season and then finished 4th, unbeaten in the
last 10 games. It's just a matter of adjusting to the higher
level and new players.
Smudger at 9:7:59 Friday August 15 97
This is not a pop at Northampton but I do feel your stay in the second division is going to be a very short one. To lose at home to Bournemouth who are a very average team does not bode well for the rest of the season. I'm a Wycombe fan so I can't really say an awful lot after the start we have had but I am confident we will gain 3 points on Saturday. We are nothing more than a mid-table team so your performance against ourselves could be a good indication as to your fortunes this season.
I am looking forward to visitiong your new ground later in the season and I just hope it is better than the pathetic hovel that you used to play at !
My prediction for Saturday is : Wycombe 2-0 Northampton
Tor Aage Braathen at 8:25:52 Thursday August 14 97
Hi Ray.
The happy hollidays are over, and its work work work. I`m glad the season has started. Jevnaker are not doing so well, so my hope this season: The Cobblers. See you when I can afford a ticket to England. I have to fix my crashed car.

nadine at 14:31:45 Wednesday August 13 97

To the Insider: I wish I could say I that it was my fault Roy was knackered, but alas, I still have that pleasure to look forward to!
The Insider at 10:38:4 Wednesday August 13 97
The boo boys were well and truly silenced. Booing Gayle when he came on as sub was a disgrace; Lee had done naff all during the game and he has to realise he's not up against Div 3 17 year old YTS defenders any more. He needs more upper body strength and is being found out. That said I think Gayle came on with a point to prove especially after the Chron's comments on Monday. ONly 600 tickets sold for Wycombe...where are they all now?
Mark at 17:5:46 Tuesday August 12 97
I would Ray but there would be trouble from the food Vendors!
Ray at 15:50:36 Tuesday August 12 97

Ian Platt at 4:12:36 Tuesday August 12 97
Hi Ray, if you haven't been there lately the Millwall page has moved to"www.hof.org.uk". They seem to have played ominously well on Saturday.
Mark Pacan at 21:47:10 Monday August 11 97
OK, I shall have a stand at the Balloon festival , this Fri Sat and Sunday. I overlook arena B which is the one furthest from St Georges Ave (No G12 corner Pitch) If you ent going Wycombe come and see me and purchase some cobblers christmas cards (its never too early). Designed and painted by my good self, I have sunk a few hindred quid into this and am now feeling a bit worried! Half of the profit is going to the trust, the rest will go towards the printing bill for NEXT years card. Ever the optimist! Come and say "Hi" and brings some cold drinks- its gonna be hot again.
The Insider at 21:30:3 Monday August 11 97
The reason "Sixfield Boys" could not be heard is because the tannoy is crap. And as for Pete Smith, the pre match host, I'd like to be the first to cause him to need a microphonobotomy. And Roy Hunter has clearly been shagging Nadine too much - he look knackered.
Six at 20:53:8 Monday August 11 97
cool!!! - It took a lot a bribery to get it played BTW, but i here that they want to use it as their song!! We may write a new song for the 100 years, not sure yet!!
Millwall tomorrow then, whats the score gonna be???? I saw 1-1.
Nadine I called you 4 times today but either got no answer or a mailbox - you did call me right, oh yeah cos you left me that funny message!!!
Ray at 18:36:6 Monday August 11 97
Actually I heard it at least twice - once at about 2:30 and then again about 2:55
Gareth at 15:34:19 Monday August 11 97
Six - they played your song at about 2:30pm. I was outside the ground at the time, but I could hear it playing.
nadine at 14:14:50 Monday August 11 97
Six: missed you on Saturday!! Thought you couldn't be bothered until I read this today. Guess who I served yesterday? Sean Parrish. Was very tempted to tell him that he had a crap game on Saturday, but managed to restrain myself in time! However, he did not benefit from any free tickets!
nadine at 14:13:14 Monday August 11 97
Heggs and Hunter along with Clarkson had a good game, Gayle was useless - you have to admit that much.

The real Mark at 9:18:34 Monday August 11 97
Six, this is the real Mark "speaking"!!
I missed the match through work committments, but remember, we lost the first game of the season last year. "T" has'nt been seen except when I nearly ran her over in I"boro high st!
Six at 1:22:4 Monday August 11 97
Cheers Mark, how are you mate? (wheres T, hee hee!!) = I didn;t think much to Heggs last week against Leicester! (hey Nadine, ring me!)
Mark at 22:2:3 Sunday August 10 97
Six, Gayle did look very fit, and i thought he had a good game, but he was getting a lot of stick from some Cobblers supporters, and there was a huge cheer when Atkins took him off.
I thought Heggs was well worth his 'man of the match'. He looks an absolute bargain at £40000. Van Dulleman and Seal looked good too although they weren't on long.
We played at least as well as Bournemouth, which is encouraging, apart from the two excellent goals.I hope all teams in the 2nd division haven't got players that can score like that or we are in for a very tough season.
Six at 16:26:28 Sunday August 10 97
Sigh, I missed the game and Nadine and didn't hear them play our song, But my mate said that Gayle looked fit, did he??
Ray at 15:38:31 Sunday August 10 97
Good idea! As I saw it yesterday, during the first half he worried the Bournemouth defence, winning balls but unable to direct them. In the second half he appeared to give it up as a bad job.
The Harpenden Cobbler at 11:48:39 Sunday August 10 97
RE: John Gayle, maybe we get Hereford to buy him, that would give them another ex-Cobbler, it would give 25K hopefully, which we could put towards a striker who scores goals.
Ray at 11:21:10 Saturday August 9 97
I actually have been here several times Ian - but had not got anything worthwhile to say :-)
Six at 4:33:12 Saturday August 9 97

Six at 23:47:43 Thursday August 7 97

Ray at 22:58:16 Thursday August 7 97
As far as I'm aware - van Dulleman has been signed only on loan for the first 2 weeks of the season.

nadine at 10:26:27 Thursday August 7 97
sorry folks - been busy for a week or so, new car!!!! I haven't had a chance to go to any matches yet as my slave driver of a boss will not give me time off until the season starts! So I had to sit in the box office watching the stadium on Saturday, wishing I was there!

Hey guess what? - I met Harry RedKnapp at Sixfields today! He's a top bloke! - I reackon (well hope!) he was looking at Chris Lee.... and yep Ray Bob Gorrill (not my fav person of all time) I think is wanted to get in on the act (if you know what i mean!!)

Ray, as usual you speak a lot of sense!! - Lee does look at good player doesn't he? - BTW you missed a great night at Sixfields yesterday!!!
Ray at 17:56:18 Sunday August 3 97
Yep - I just back from the game as well - bit of difference in class I thought but not so great as I expected from a team that finished 9th. in the Premier last season, I think we should sign van Dulleman post haste before anyone else snaps him up! Chris Lee looked pretty useful as well and nearly put us in front. Perhaps Ian Atkins was right after all and he will shine against more skillful teams. (and where wehere the 5000 people who reputedly purchased tickets?)
