I know the England match is on but I've transferred to my bedroom at end of normal time. If you want to see a cracking play about football, then go along to the Royal Theatre tomorrow night at 8pm, its called 'Stand' and involves lots of chanting and strong language and its won lots of awards already and I'm not at all biased.

Just been on the saints website and left a message, but basically it sucks, that crappy music, ahh glad to be back in cobblers terriotry. (Although they'll be about 5 messages disagree with my comments below when i return)

Ban ITV from showing football (BGPS) at 10:46:16 Monday June 29 98
Just to put my opinon across on the ground-sharing issue (not tht you really care) but I don't like it. Personally I'm quite happy with our 7500 at the mo, so, away supporters of big clubs cant get in but who gives a.... Ok on 3 occasions last year we were sold out - wow the rest of the time we were just around 6500. As for the future we played well last season but promotion this year I doubt it and even if we did go up to 1st we be back down agian quicker than, arseburger curry out of a cheeta's rectum. Basically we be'd stuck with stadium we could never get close to filling. I don't see the need to expand unless we get a big finacial backer who can buy us into the 1st. I better go sit down again my ribs are still aching from Kevin Keegan's (expert pundit) jokes on ITV last night.

Mr B.Manager at 8:57:48 Monday June 29 98
I have it on good authority that Carlo Corazzin is on a salary of around 150K a year!

the rumour merchant at 22:8:42 Sunday June 28 98
atkins is on the verge of signing john collins and andrei kanchelskis, he is planning on playing a flowing game with wingers.

hartwell cobbler at 10:52:54 Sunday June 28 98
bez - good idea but impractical and financially unfeasible. ref keith barwell: you might not like him, but he doesn't act on whims. he's very perceptive and has a very sharp business brain. if barwell is looking at buying sixfields there's sound economic reasoning behind it. however, otherwise, i certainly agree with you - sixfields has been the cobblers lifeline. it's also the club's future (and a bright one at that). so the club must never, never, agree anything which makes them sub-tenants as we were at the county ground. talking about sound, hard, business brains i can assure you we've also got some good negotiators on our board at sixfields - barry stonhill for one. so i am optimistic that, even if groundsharing at sixfields comes about, the cobblers board will be able to fight its corner and ensure the club shared with the saints on an equal footing. i am less certain about how the pitch might hold up, though. it doesn't drain well.

Ray at 10:43:21 Sunday June 28 98
The season draws a little closer. The squad starts pre-season training on Wednesday.

CHRIS at 9:33:5 Sunday June 28 98
RAY: CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!!! 32000 UP. KEEP ON RELLING THEM IN. JUST LOOKED AT CARLO CORRIZAN'S MATCH FACTS, HE SEEMS A REALLY TALL STRONG PLAYER WITH AN EYE FOR GOAL, HE GOT LOADS OF 6'S AND 7'S AND A FEW 8'S. CCHHRRIISS !!!!!!!!!!

Ray at 0:10:45 Sunday June 28 98
Bez: I dont think we should get involved with teams that are obviously inferior to us :-)

Ralph at 19:42:15 Saturday June 27 98
I'm still here.

Paul at 17:47:39 Saturday June 27 98
Geeez Bez. If you had half a brain you'd be dangerous !!

Bez at 16:29:1 Saturday June 27 98
Oh i nearly forgot. If you visit www.cambrigeunited.com and visit the fans forum there and you leave a slightly derogatory comment about Peterborough and put the same comment on any Posh page you get more response at the Cambridge United page. It seems that The U's hate them as much as us so I believe a merger of fans would create a world beating Posh hating place for all us Posh haters.

Bez at 16:23:35 Saturday June 27 98
I'm sorry Chris but I have very strong views on this. I do go and watch the Saints a lot and I am happy to see them do well but please see that we have taken 97 years to get a stadium we can sort of call our own and now Barwell (the only thing in the Saints I can't stand) Goes 'I know lets buy Sixfields' in his true mega-lo-maniac way. Surely you can see thatwe are all so unhappy maybe the way forward would be to look at enlarging Sixfields to 12,000 and upgrading Franklin's Gardens to a 7,500 seater stadium itself. Then we can do what the County can do which is play matches at places like my old school , Wellingborough, and also Milton Keynes as well as Wantage Road. If intelligent negotiations could happen the council could own 50% of Sixfields and 50% of Franklin's Gardens whilst Mr. Barwell could own the other 50% of the venues. The way that priority could be sorted out could be done by firstly the expected crowds to the particular game and if they are the same take it in turns to play at the venues. I know this is complicated but it would be the only way the whole idea could semi-work. Personally I strongly believe we should stick with our lots. Apologies again to Chris

BBC Ceefax reports Corazzin signing but e -mail group losing sense of priority and indulging in World Cup trivia only.

Ian Platt at 4:21:3 Saturday June 27 98
Is the Corrazin signing confirmed?

Ray at 22:42:30 Friday June 26 98
Yep - I do work - but not too much - lol!

bored italian at 20:51:28 Friday June 26 98
Ray - is that you wearing the claret shirt eating all the pies? By the way, you're a bit keen aren't you, 8:47 in the morning - don't you work in Northampton?

RICHARD at 19:55:35 Friday June 26 98
Groundsharing debate: Views often polarize and, without clear information and detail as to the outcome of such a venture, it's hard to be so clearcut in a view of what is best for 'us' whether we're Cobblers' fans, Saints' fans or, in my case, both. My wish is for an increased ground capacity to bring in the necessary revenue, without which we would find it hard to survive in the stratosphere of higher league status. An alternative to the groundsharing operation would have to be a rich (very) benefactor or two prepared to bankroll the whole shooting match. Only the 'Insider' perhaps can shed light on the likely outcome. We need to hear something concrete before the season starts, in order to have a goal to aim for.

hartwell cobbler at 17:31:38 Friday June 26 98
chris - you might not want groundsharing. but many cobblers fans can actually see benefits from the idea - providing its correctly handled. it's mainly saints supporters who don't want to leave the gardens - and i can understand that. but i would again suggest cobblers fans should think seriously before joining the "keep saints at the gardens" chorus.

Chris at 14:23:29 Friday June 26 98
Lets get the Sixfields story straight from the Saints supporters point of view. The vast majority of Saints supporters do not want to move to Sixfields and I believe the the same goes for the Cobblers fans. We were promised when we sold the club to Barwell that we would be staying at the Gardens and its here we want to stay. We should be sticking together on this issue not getting at each others throats by going into the Saints message board (Bez) and slagging each other off. Cobblers for Sixfields, Saints for the Gardens, No to ground sharing or merger.

Paul at 12:39:11 Friday June 26 98
Well, the main reason Chapple signed for Posh was because he was offered a 4 year contract. Apparently he could have got slightly better terms elsewhere (Stoke) but wanted the security of a longer deal.

Bez at 11:37:45 Friday June 26 98
Phil Chapple has joined S**tborough. WHY?????????? Carlo Corazzin signed a two year contract this morning according to Clubcall, Teletext and the Radio. Apparently he scored 17 goals last season and has played for Canada 34 times!!! At last some signings.

hartwell cobbler at 11:17:10 Friday June 26 98
cockney cobbler - having had two disappointments IA is keeping his cards close to his chest ref further new signings. he's certainly chasing two forwards. as for chapple, i know nothing about that. corrazin's the name that's being touted around here.

cockney cobbler at 9:1:47 Friday June 26 98
any more news about cobblers signing phil chapple from charlton?

Ray at 8:47:18 Friday June 26 98
Right here! Can't you see me waving?

bored italian at 22:41:28 Thursday June 25 98
where exactly is Northampton then?

RICHARD at 22:33:2 Thursday June 25 98
I saw DM in a televised game last season where he appeared to be doing a lot down the flanks, putting in some reasonable crosses, not unlike a Heggsy, but mainly on the right. Can we play 5 forwards next season?

Ray at 19:34:1 Thursday June 25 98
I bet its not Michael Owen either that hes lookig to sign.......

hartwell cobbler at 14:17:41 Thursday June 25 98
ian - i forgot to mention that damiel is also a mate of kevin wilson (whether that's good news or not i can't say!!).

Anon at 14:16:15 Thursday June 25 98
ian - damiel matthew comes from burnley. he's a strong-running midfield player. (sounds like another hunter !) he's an ex-under 21 international, now aged 27. he reckons the cobblers are a friendly club - hence his decision to sign. it's a free transfer. IA is also talking to several forwards (and no, not the motionless sherringham!).

Ian Platt at 4:17:6 Thursday June 25 98
A signing at last! Damien Matthew is the player we tried to sign during last season for about 50000 pounds, so I presume this is a good deal. Anyone know anything about him?

adam at 0:7:27 Thursday June 25 98
damien mathew has signed from burnley on a free according to ceefax

Ray at 22:2:54 Wednesday June 24 98
Tickets for the friendly games go on sale next week for season ticket holds on Monday - open to the remainder on Thursday - no news on league matches yet.

cockney cobbler at 18:41:24 Wednesday June 24 98
anybody know when tickets will be on sale for the first home league game against stoke city?

hartwell cobbler at 18:5:27 Wednesday June 24 98
i gather there's a move by saints fans to form a "stay at franklins gardens" ginger group. they are touting support from cobblers fans. that's ok in itself. BUT beware the suspect line of approach - to the effect that you should support us because it will also be bad for you. not necessarily so. properly structured, groundsharing may offer more pro's than cons for the cobblers.

Nosey parker in I.A.office!!! at 17:30:59 Wednesday June 24 98

Ray at 9:13:51 Wednesday June 24 98
I think IA is hanging on to what hes got until someone actually decides to sign for us.

The Insider at 8:20:24 Wednesday June 24 98
The Insider has been travelling and is off to Lens tomorrow for the World Cup. Just to prove I haven't lost my touch, Theo Foley has been appointed Spurs' reserve team coach. I also have to eat my hat as I now believe there are two mystery benefactors and one is Steve Griggs, although quite why he is interested given the Diamonds angle, I don't know.

Ian Platt at 3:39:42 Wednesday June 24 98
Maybe we'll have something to say when/if we make a new signing or two. Did IA ever transfer list anyone?

RICHARD at 23:23:3 Tuesday June 23 98
Ralph: Glad to see you haven't 'alien'-ated yourself completely from these worthy pages.

RICHARD at 23:19:5 Tuesday June 23 98
Treenie: It must be "Jack", as in "Dixon of Dock Green" star Jack Warner.

Ray at 18:37:55 Tuesday June 23 98
I don't think the Insider has had much to say since I sussed out who he was.

Anon at 18:25:16 Tuesday June 23 98

Where the devil is everyone? I know you're out there because we are still getting over 50 visits a day!

Ray at 9:8:25 Tuesday June 23 98
Just think - if Northampton declares independence, we could enter the Cobblers for the next World Cup. If we take the team and crowd from the game against Bristol Rovers - we would damn well win it was well........

Ray at 22:1:14 Monday June 22 98

CK at 22:0:52 Saturday June 20 98
Oldfield is a no- no, Phil Chapple (Charlton) is a possible go -go.

hartwell cobbler at 12:10:17 Saturday June 20 98
neal - i wonder whether barwell has deliberately "let the cat out the bag" on groundsharing to test the water and judge public opinion ? having been to franklins gardens twice last season i can see the problems. the stadium is past its sell by date. and updating and expanding it is a major problem and cost. if barwell wants a 15,000 capacity there's no way i can see that being achievable at the gardens. whether or not saints or cobbblers fans want groundsharing, the fact of the matter is that BOTH clubs need increased capacity. give or take several key issues i have no problem with the groundsharing option. in fact it makes sense to me. however i can understand the sentimental and emotional side of it. you're right to say the council would be very tempted at £10m - who wouldn't be! but i'm sure in any negotiations both clubs would take great care to look after their own interests. i feel sure that if they sold, the council would place conditions on it - one being that any tenancy agreement would have to be on a 50/50 basis. otherwise they could be seen to be allowing the cobblers to sink back into obscurity again. and i'm sure they cherish the town's football league status in the same way as they want to see a healthy rugby and cricket club. it's all good for the town's image. so i don't think the cobblers would or could be conspired against in that way. as i say, maybe barwell's just sounding us all out at this stage. whatever happens, it promises to be an interesting season !!!

9224 at 21:43:29 Friday June 19 98
I think he'd be daft to sell Seal, Freestone OR Heggs! Seal MUST stay, when he can be bothered, he's the best player at NTFC - IA should spend the close season getting his motivation back up to what it was

Jimbo is displaying the sort of juvenile mentality thats caused all the problems in france. Grow up you stupid git.

Bez at 11:27:15 Friday June 19 98
Someone tell Paul that Gayle joined Scunthorpe saying and I quote 'I was impressed with Brian Laws and Scunthorpe and i decided that they had more promotion potential than Peterborough'. Secondly Stein and Clarke will not sign for Peterborough because there is less money there than there is here. Also I don't want the Saints moving to Sixfields because looking at Watford's, Bristol Rover's and QPR's pitches at the end of the season it would be a wreck. I have got my season ticket £210!!!!!! and it is the cheapest area (North Stand). Oh well i just hope they do as well as last year.

Ray at 0:4:27 Friday June 19 98
Dream on Jimbo.....

Jimbo at 23:15:57 Thursday June 18 98
Just so we know like, are you lot still going to be kicking lumps out of everyone next season? Fulham will beat you 5-0 at the Cottage and 3-0 at shitfields.

Neal at 20:51:52 Thursday June 18 98
As I Saints supporters, I am very concerned over Barwells bid for Sixfields. We don't want to move. Of more concern to you guys( us as well) is that a very good source tells me that the Bid does not include the Cobblers, as in a tenant free Sixfields. He also tells me that the Council are very skint so 10M could be very tempting. Assuming you guys don't want us up there, I think we need to join forces on this one. Any views, opinions you wish to share? Email me. I am going to start organising the resistance our end. Believe me, no true Saints Supporters want to see any harm come to the Cobblers.

hancock@terrigal.net.au at 13:6:26 Thursday June 18 98
when i left england 30 yrs ago the nation were of good people where on the whole not the type of person who would pick a fight over a soccer team. then i see scenes from france and say is it worth it. it makes me shamed to be an ex pom. from bill

treenie at 9:34:11 Thursday June 18 98
does anyone no if Christian Lee's staying. The reserves won't be the same without him.

Ray at 0:18:10 Thursday June 18 98
I agree - and under the terms of the lease to the Cobblers I dont think Barnwell would get in on that premise.

BGPS at 19:52:7 Wednesday June 17 98
Have read in the chron about the possibuilty of the saints buying sixfields building it up to 15,00 and sharing it with the cobblers. I don't think so. I bet Barwell would either chuck out the cobblers or hike up the rent so much we'd be forced out.

Paul at 17:6:11 Wednesday June 17 98
Sorry Ray but the Posh / John Gayle link is/was a load of old c*bblers. If you're choosing between Andy Clarke, Mark Stein and John Gayle then Gayle will be lucky to be 4TH choice !!!

afcb fan at 16:49:28 Wednesday June 17 98
The Bournemouth chairman has just quoted on the afcb mailing list that "interestingly the whole of Northamptons forward line has been transfer listed" - does this possibly mean that we are about to sign one of your players?

T. at 13:14:11 Wednesday June 17 98
Sorry TRB Mark, blame it on the fact I'm now seeing an Arsenal fan and , (the Cobblers Conversion process has already been started)I've gone all scatty, and he's off to York Uni in October so will be making a trip to the York match again in the coming season (not long to go now). Catch him performing (OOER!) at The Royal in Northampton on July 1st and at the Edinburgh Festival in August. I haven't got the form from my mum yet, my nice unc has paid for my season ticket and I can pay him off in instalments (with no interest!) Ray, I can't make the party now as it's my neighbour's hen night Speak to you all soon

Ray at 5:32:9 Wednesday June 17 98
John Gayle is reported as being about to sign for Scunthorpe. He has also been offered terms by P'boro but has decided that they do not have sufficient promotion ambitions.

BGPS at 20:35:11 Tuesday June 16 98
OK best two comments by commentators in the World cup so far, anymore you spot add them on. "The Germans seem to be able to shoot anywhere within shooting range" -John Motson "You really don't want to Ronaldo, hes like the Alan Shearer of Brazil" - Kevin Keegan

Pete Bryant at 19:56:43 Tuesday June 16 98
Great website .. how often is general NTFC news updated ?? Any other Cobblers fans living in Sussex ??????

Ray at 14:23:6 Tuesday June 16 98
Cheers Ian - any more u spot just let me know. I cut and pasted a number of teams to keep the links which is how this happened (so I guess we played Wrexham away in November last year)

Ralph at 13:14:20 Tuesday June 16 98
I am bereft of all comment!

Ian Platt at 13:0:59 Tuesday June 16 98
Ray, on the provisional fixtures list you have Nov for Wrexham away where it should be Aug 29.

BGPS at 12:2:39 Tuesday June 16 98
After watching the world cup was wondering if Atkins was thinking of signing some forign players there are looking for moves to Europe, from some of the african teams, (not Efan Elad, though) I hear he has a friend who manages a South African side.

Ray at 11:18:6 Tuesday June 16 98
1 month to go!!!!

Ray at 11:17:45 Tuesday June 16 98
The Wigan home game is now 9th. March and not 10th. March. Dates on the list are still provisional.

hartwell cobbler at 9:51:37 Tuesday June 16 98
yes, ray. sorry 'bout that. i'm in pre-season dreamland! actually, my son spotted the list on Ceefax (p390). stoke at home is certainly an attractive opener and should give us a full house.

Ray at 22:15:34 Monday June 15 98
At the risk of repeating myself ad infinitum the fixtures list is on the Fixtures page :-)

hartwell cobbler at 17:40:7 Monday June 15 98
ian - i think IA announces his retained list this week. Ray - is the first game (Stoke) at home ? Does anyone know the provisional list and if so can they post here for us to see, please???

NTFC fan at 17:24:19 Monday June 15 98
hello, I am still alive

Ray at 16:47:4 Monday June 15 98
The provisional fixture list has now been posted.

Richard from HK at 15:41:27 Monday June 15 98
Thanks Ray will certainly do that. Once I get my flight details I will give you a shout. It should be about the 3 week of July. Just watched England win 2 - 0 , good result,is that man Scholes for sale ?

Ian Platt at 15:36:19 Monday June 15 98
FT 2-0 Scholes 88

Kev Patel at 15:34:42 Monday June 15 98
How many Cobblers fans are there out there who think that next season we'll see The Cobblers go up? I personally think that next season will be even tougher than the last, especially when you see the strength of the relegated teams who will be looking to go straight back up at the first attempt. This does not mean I think that Cobblers have no chance of going up, it will just need a different approach to our game - ie. not lofting the ball up into the air everytime we get possesion and losing it, I could watch my school team do that!! Those of you who were at Wembley will have seen the number of chances we created when we kept the ball on the deck. I also think that the current squad is good enough to win us automatic promotion next season (not that we have the money to splash about anyway!) Kev Patel, West Stand, lower

HT 1-0 Shearer 41 mins. Seaman; Southgate, Adams, Campbell: Batty, Ince, Scholes, Anderton, Le Saux; Sheringham, Shearer.

Ian Platt at 12:37:39 Monday June 15 98
There was a suggestion that IA would transfer list some players at the end of last week (eg Bishop etc). Did anything happen?

Ray at 12:35:46 Monday June 15 98
Yep - I think you are right Ian, I just misremembered the numbers. Stoke is the first game and Burnley is th last. The full fixture list will be available as from about midday tomorrow hopefully. There is no preseason tour per se. See down the page a bit for the friendlies arranged.

Ian Platt at 12:32:18 Monday June 15 98
No, I don't have a lisp, I meant writing.

Ian Platt at 12:31:3 Monday June 15 98
Are the Cobblers likely to do a preseason tour like last year (Weymouth, Tiverton and Bideford?)?. Has the game with Chelsea been confirmed (last I heard the Cobblers were waiting for something in witing)?.

Ian Platt at 12:12:27 Monday June 15 98
The figure on free transfers that I saw was 591 in the Nationwide and another 100 odd from the Premier, about 700 in all. I would imagine IA might glean a gem or two for development from that lot. Eddie M did a lot for the club but he is way past his best, I doubt if Man City reserves will help us much unless they are young with potential. If Stoke are the first game it will be good to get at them while their confidence is still low, better than getting a promoted side.

The Oxford Cobbler at 12:10:14 Monday June 15 98

TRB Mark at 23:59:11 Sunday June 14 98
T, I'm NOT here which is just as well cos you did'nt ask for me anyway, *sniff*. I dropped the Trust enrolement form into your Mums Hypermarket (I'boro branch). If anyone else would like to join the Trust, and I think you should, email me your address and I will send you said application form at vast expense to myself. Just when everything is sort of rosy in the football garden, along come the xenophobic English knobheads to spoil it all.............

Ray at 23:6:38 Sunday June 14 98
Look - if we want a has been - there are 531 players on the free transfer list - I'm sure we can do better.

EDDIE MCGOLDRICK APPRECIATION SOCIETY at 19:19:57 Sunday June 14 98
I see that everybody is suddenly coming round to the idea that EDDIE should be re-signed immediately. You are all jumping onto the eddie bandwagon now, we must congratulate you for seeing the light.

Ian Platt at 17:18:11 Sunday June 14 98
Is Branson involved in the leisure complex that they hope to put where Express lifts is? That might explain some interest in the Cobblers?

Ian Platt at 17:12:41 Sunday June 14 98
Just a word for the Dublin Cobbler, the shop may be open but they do not have much stock until the new shirts and other new stuff arrives.

Ray at 13:4:26 Sunday June 14 98
I considered this but I was a bit unsure about Man. U and Arsenal.

Breaking radio silence since the big day, have to say it was a long one just to end up sitting in front of soccernet waiting for the result.Reading the reports and the e mail it seems that Grimsby deserved to win. Most encouraging though is the positive expectation for next season,it's great. For us old timers who lived through the dark days any success is good but the last couple of seasons has been brilliant (from where I sit). Any way I will be in Northampton soon, paying my annual visit to see my Mum in Gt Billing. I have never been to Sixfields ,does anyone know if I could get in and have a look? I am totally knackered at the moment having stayed up to watch all three games last night(HK being 7 hours ahead of you guys). Any way that's about all, except the latest jokes from my sons school. What is brown and sits on a wall? ..... Humpty Dump ! Why are elephants large, grey and wrinkly?... because if they were small white and smooth they would be mistaken for an aspirin ! OK so I have been away for too long.....

Todays Hot News: Overzealous zookeeper Friedrich Riesfeldt fed his constipated elephant Stefan 22 doses of animal laxative and more than a bushel of berries, figs and prunes before the plugged-up pachyderm finally let fly-and suffocated the keeper under 200 pounds of poop. Investigators say ill-fated Friedrich, 46, was attempting to give the ailing elephant an olive-oil enema when the relieved beast unloaded on him like a dump truck full of mud. "The sheer force of the elephant's unexpected defecation knocked Mr. Riesfeldt to the ground, where he struck his head on a rock and lay unconscious as the elephant continued to evacuate his bowels on top of him," said flabbergasted Paderborn police detective Erik Dern. "With no one there to help him, he lay under all that dung for at least an hour before a watchman came along, and during that time he suffocated. "It seems to be just one of those freak accidents that happen sometimes --- a billion-to-one shot, at least."

A man went to a plastic surgeon to get work done on his penis. The doctor, curious, asked what had happened to it. "Well," the patient said, "I live in a trailer camp.  A gorgeous buxom creature lives in the trailer next to mine. I used to peek into her trailer and I saw she had a habit. Each afternoon she would take a hot dog from her refrigerator and put it in a hole on her trailer floor.  Then she'd sit on it and have a ball.  She nearly drove me crazy. "So I got a bright idea.  One day I got under her trailer and when she slid the hot dog in the hole, I slid it out and slipped my penis up through the hole.  She sat down on it and everything was going just great until there was a knock at the door." "And then?" said the doctor. "Ah hell," the patient explained, "That's when she tried to kick it under the stove."

Hot news (also from the Chron) - we've got Chelsea on July 24th, with the Cambridge game being put back 24 hours. They'll be bringing a full squad. What a great chance to show those posh continenatal nancies how to play. Ho ho!

Steve at 17:3:22 Tuesday June 9 98
Ray Wilkins quoted in today's Chron. "Glenn Hoddle's most difficult decision is who to play with Alan Shearer. We've got the likes of Sheringham, Scholes, COLE, WRIGHT and Ferdinand." Where has he been and what has he been on since getting the boot?

Ray at 14:46:18 Tuesday June 9 98
Look out for exciting news next week as a new backer for the Cobblers is found - on the assumption my numbers come up (or perhaps Steve finds a fabulously valuable pot hidden at the back of his shop)

hartwell cobbler at 14:16:31 Tuesday June 9 98
looks as though we've been out-smarted! maybe not such a bad thing. i cannot see the merit of bringing in players from teams relegated to the third div - with very few exceptions. we've said it before and keep on saying it - we have plenty of action men. we desperately need some added class, first a midfielder who can feed the forwards with class balls in the box plus someone of distinction to play up front with freestone - and with whom he can develop an understanding. that means playing both regularly. i'm not sure about eddie mcgoldrick but the idea is right: we should be looking for two mature players with proven class. when hunter and parrish get back to full fitness, two class players will give us the edge we lack to be a real promotion team. as to the continued rumour about richard branson and the cobblers, i believe that's all it is. just gossip. i think any potential backer is likely to come from nearer home.

Bez at 13:1:2 Tuesday June 9 98
So we haven't signed Allan Smart but lets be honest I'm sure IA can find a better, cheaper player than him. Apparently we are trying to sign Stuart Ryder from Walsall who is he? I reckon that Watford are trying to go straight into Division 3 as they seem to be after another Carlisle United player in Nick Wright. David Oldfield would be a great signing but I can't see him joining us. How about signing O'Neill Donaldson from Stoke City. He is free and scored 14 goals last season for Stoke and Oxford in less than 25 games. Another idea would be to sign Eddie McGoldrick. I know he is 31 at least, but he is a quality left winger and we need one of these to balance the side. Now Lee Colkin has left we don't have an attacking left side option other than Heggs. McGoldrick is free, quality and can play in defence (not that we need any more of these players)

RICHARD at 10:34:51 Tuesday June 9 98
If sightings of Richard Branson are genuine, what is his purpose? I know he is looking to build a new chain of leisure complexes, nationwide (no pun intended). Northampton is fairly central. The quickest way to get about the country is by private helicoptor. Where is a convenient heli-pad? @6fields! That, unfortunately, could be the only connection, unless he wants to build a leisure complex on the same site and incorporate an up-and-coming footie team at the same time!!

just got back (5pm) from a week in spain to note our list of pre-season matches. With the exception of Wolves it looks very uninteresting (however we all remember the Chelsea rip-off, don't we?). To that end I expect the likes of Raunds Town will be putting out a strong side ?(!). Ref signings: any views on whether the players talked about are likely to be better than the ones we have at present and/or who are being replaced? I was hoping IA would use his windfall to sign just two players of proven quality and commitment - certainly a forward and a playmaker, with the consistent ability to drop telling passes to our front men in the box.

Tonight's Bolton Evening News claims that IA 'has emerged as the surprise front-runner' for the vacant manager's job at Bury. It's said that the Bury chairman admires what IA has done at Northampton, and is looking for someone with drive, enthusiasm and a good motivator who can work with a tight budget. He doesn't want 'an ex-player who has been used to mountains of cash all his career and has no idea what life is like at a club like Bury.' Apparently IA might be tempted because he could still live in Birmingham. Anyone else heard this rumour?

My football predicting skills are top notch. (see later message. Ok I was wrong about rush, but Corazzin and Boere? I reckon Smart should brake the transfer record, though Atkins will probably have to pull out if it's over 200,000. Gayle to Peterbourgh I hope not I think he has some self-respect.

Steve at 14:51:1 Friday June 5 98
Smart signed from Carlisle - fee to be decided by tribunal, under the new arrangement that each side has to agree to the outcome. God help us if the tribunal decides on 750,000. Dozzell definitely out, Atkins saying that he was a bit 'top heavy' towards the end of the season, and had also been battling with a 'personal' problem. Gayle possibly going to Scunthorpe or P*******h. I take no great credit for these scoops. I've just bought the Chron and thought I'd pass on the news whilst having a cuppa. Drysdale also gone. Brightwell offered new terms and is thinking it over.

RICHARD at 2:16:29 Friday June 5 98
I find myself strangely drawn to these pages, night after night. The fall-off in contributions is clearly due to the dearth of weighty matters to cogitate over during the close season. Mind you, the surge of contributors over the run up to and during the play-offs must have been the envy of more exalted team sites. The deeper interest however - that which goes beyond mere bandwagon-jumping-upon - can be sustained by the faithful few through the dark days, until the new, improved Branson/Nationwide/Saints-backed Cobblers return to the field of dreams!

No sign of Poshboy for a while, maybe he's grown up and realised how sad it is to repeatly email other teams web site. Well Gayle off I hope not, he brings in different options and holds the ball up well. But if were looking for a replacement for him. How about Mark Sale?

Steve at 12:13:19 Thursday June 4 98

FBTG: If you speak from the "other side", can you tell us what changes are in store @6fields next season? And, more importantly, who should I put my money on for runners-up in the WC. I have it on good authority ( though not as high as your source, FBTG ) that the winners of the WCs, since betting attracted serious money, have all come from within the top 5 in the pre-tournament betting. Guess who's in at No.5?

From Beyond The Grave at 20:21:50 Wednesday June 3 98
For the last time, it ain't bloody well me!

King Wible at 19:27:43 Wednesday June 3 98
What a great season, who would of expected it! Oh, I feel a consistent goal-grabber may be a good signing.(easier said I know!) Anyone know if Alex Leczynski would fill this role?

Ray at 16:4:12 Wednesday June 3 98
44 days to go to the first ball kick!

Unlucky..... well theres allways next season... when do the pre season friendlies start?

Steve at 13:8:42 Wednesday June 3 98
Has Atkins been reading the press whilst on holiday? Does he know of two possible good buys? They should fit the bill. Both are perhaps past their best, slightly prone to being overweight, but all it would need is for a local businessman to meet their salary demands, and we could sign up Gazza AND Slapper Spice.

Ray at 12:38:19 Wednesday June 3 98
Not unless Wilf was the person I think he is....

NTFC fan at 10:43:40 Wednesday June 3 98
Its Wilf

Aha! My suspicions regarding the Insiders identity are now confirmed - but my lips are sealed.

The Insider at 8:46:46 Wednesday June 3 98
Identity can never be revealed, but I'm in the Wembley pics. Where does this story about Rush being finished come from? You heard it here first, £350k from Wembley; the businessman bankrolling Dozell also wrote a large cheque for Freestone.

Ralph at 20:6:37 Tuesday June 2 98
It's all conjecture.

Grim news. Potz 'R Us will be hiking their prices to even higher exploitative levels, in order to finance my purchase on Monday of FIVE season tickets. I must be mad, particularly as it'll be the wife and kids who will be watching most of the games. The East stand will never be the same again. Avoid being anywhere near F70-74 if you wish to retain your sanity. Today's Chron. says Gayle is on his way, but really they're just filling up space, because they don't say when or where, just that has he has been offered a new contract, but hasn't signed up. Perhaps he's waiting to see who comes in.

Two dwarves are bored during an overnight stay at a hotel so they decide to find themselves two prostitutes. Once they arrive, the two dwarves partner up with the two tarts and disappear to their respective adjacent rooms. The first dwarf gets down to it but finds that he is having real trouble getting a stiffy. Try as he might, he just can't get wood. What makes things worse is that all he can hear is the second dwarf next door having a whale of a time - "one, two, three, huurh!" followed a few seconds later by "one, two, three, huurh!" This goes on all night and makes the first dwarves attempts at a boner futile. The next morning the two dwarves compare notes about the night before. The first dwarf admits his defeat - "I tried as hard as I could but I couldn't get a hard-on all night. How did you get on?" The second dwarf replies, "I had an even worse time. I couldn't even get on the bed."

I agree Ray I can't see Gibb leaving or Atkins wanting him to leave. I do think that AJ is right about most of the others except although I'm not so sure about Gayle and Hill.

No way is Gibb leaving....

An Asian man walks into the currency exchange in Sydney with 2000 yen and walks out with $72. Next week he walks in with 2000 yen, gets $66. He asks the lady why he gets less money this week than last week. The lady says "Fluctuations". Asian man storms out, and just before slamming the door turns around and says "Fluc you clazy Australians too!"

POSHBOY at 14:41:48 Monday June 1 98
41,000 - 6,000 = 35,000. What do the 35,000 do during August to May?

The Oxford Cobbler at 13:51:10 Monday June 1 98
Ray - Could you tell me what the situation is with regards to the shirts. Are their any of last years home kit left and if so will they be sold at a reduced cost? When does the new kit come out?

Ralph at 13:51:4 Monday June 1 98
Not much to say really, it's all being said. Just want you to know Ray that I'm still dropping in each day.

T. at 6:45:21 Monday June 1 98
Hasn't Matthew Rush retired due to injury?
