This is what you guys that hate Wilko don't seem to understand. I haven't read any comments that make the guy out to be hero worshipped. I'm not convinced he is totally the right man for the job but to be honest I haven't felt convinced when Ian Atkins, Kevan Broadhurst, Kevin Wilson, Terry Fenwick etc were installed. However the difference between myself and you is that I'm prepared to give him a change to build his own team and see what happens then. Not to mention we now have a experienced coach in Richard Hill. What meeting are you talking about? For the fans or directors, what? Finally yet again you guys make quotes and they are not correct in the context mentioned. The Wilko quote was that he would be happy to have Broads back in as a coach with him still manager. But don't let the facts get in the way of a bit of Wilko bashing.

Re the search for new players. Look at Sheff Wed. They have released Paul Evans - he's the Welsh midfielder who gave the Cobblers a hard time 2 seasons ago. How about him Wilko? PS Can we have Lloyd Owusu to?
Anon at 17:05:23 Friday May 9 2003
It seems to me that there isn`t enough love at the Cobblers. We`re all pissed off about going down and the crap that got us there, except for Ted who seems to have found a silver lining, so I suggest, in nothing like the truly depressing usual Northampton vein, that we all get together for a big love-in at Sixfields. Not like the 60s crappo peace baby lefty letdowns (spliffs aside of course) but more to the tune of `you show me yours and I`ll show you mine` kind of lower school stuff that got everyone started on the road to underage sex. Charge a fiver to get in , promise a percentage to one of the p.3 slappers or some other such and give it to the club to buy a new Gabbi.
love

Therealslimmartinw has led a successful boardroom takeover bid. Slimmartin who describes himself as a professor of football was guarded in his praise of the out-going Cadozas – “They bought money into the club which was certainly necessary, but unfortunately money without footballing knowledge such as mine is not sufficient – in fact with my footballing wisdom you don’t actually need money to be successful”. In addition to being chairperson, Slimmartin will also take charge as first team coach. He will be joined on the board by Sid the Pig, who despite not being same person will only attend alternate board meetings and games. Other board members are expected to be named as Sprinkler & Tag who share Slimmartins attributes of footballing wisdom and no money. Tag with his extensive journalistic, media & communication skills will be taking over as media officer. Regarding team news Slimmartin thanked Martin Wilkinson for being the worst manager ever, and asked the press to reveal for the first time the statistics on his managerial record.

New to this site so I expect there,ll be some abuse to come. Lets face it, the third division suits the Cobblers present financial situation, so relegation was probably the best thing. Trouble with these rich blokes buying footy clubs is that they get fed up when they have to keep digging deeper. Let,s hope getting rid of the dead wood and spending wisely will get us back up straight away. Stop being boring and sentimental - footballers wear out too you know!!!

What constitutes a FACT ?
"He wil be able to build his own team which he hasn't done before (FACT)" - is that a plus point ?
Towny at 09:01:56 Friday May 9 2003
Oh dear Tag,you say live in the real world,"dimones to the prem, cobblers to the beazer" is cobblers comments, your only access to the out side world cos going by your regular rants, you must rely on this. The board have paid out over £1 million to keep the club going (FACT)Wilko has been given a substantial player budget for the summer (FACT) from which he will able to build his own team which he hasnt done before (FACT) In his position at Carlisle,he was given a wage cap of £300 p/w (FACT)therefore not attracting any sort of quality.
Finally you say we will settle for forth best,if we finish 4th we'd be in the playoffs this time next year and im sure most (not you) Cobblers fans would settle for that, and there would be no more rants from you(FACT).....
rwilks97 at 09:01:43 Friday May 9 2003
It seems the record doesn't change and no wonder. I have looked at the posts since I last got attacked for speaking my mind and nothing has changed. An oddity to have a forum where views honestly expressed get greeted with a shower of personal abuse. I probably am in the minority of fans who really do not rate Martin Wilkinson because he clearly has not got the past record. The various commments made about ignoring midfield are, I feel, totally relevant. Can remember so many people where i sit on the west complaining about how we bypass the midfield and should play more football. I am hopeful that Martin Wilkinson has just forgotten about it for a statement and that is not the game plan but it is slightly concerning that he thinks our midfield is fine. As for MC Hammer's comments, well I have to say I too have reservations about how the money is being used because you can have all the money in the world and it hs to be spent wisely. We do not. It would be interesting to know what the budget is. We have more than we had that's clear but what we have must be spent wisely. If spending all that on two strikers means that we can still afford to put the same amount of money on our midfield and defence then that would be fine. I somehow doubt it based on everything I have heard and read and seen so far. Hope that the evidence of my eyes is not proved right. Blind passion and loyalty as expressed by nsb is all very well but when I take my son to the first match of next season and yes i will be there I hope that we will see a real change for the better. As far as Marco Gabbiadini is concerned, thanks for the memories.

Tag, You've now just had a go at Ted for saying "I truly believe that with the influx of players that we are going to have,we are going to be a force to be reckoned with. The team starting next season is going to bare little resemblance to the losers that we have had this season." What the hell is wrong with stating this opinion. I would say that it a perfectly balanced opinion that a lot of positive thinking Cobblers fans would hold. Do you suggest that putting in £100k and £70k bids for players is not a good move. That says to me that we are going to be one of the few clubs that will be spending money this summer which surely will stand us in good stead. No we don't know what players are going to be brought in much like you don't know MW is going to fail next season. You talk about blinkered views but I would suggest you would not credit Wilko ever. He states we need a strong, pacey back four and proven goalscorers up front and all you can do is slag him of for not mentioning the Midfield. Maybe you need to open your mind because as far as Wilko is concerned your starting to sound extremly blinkered. Your not leaving yourself much of a "get out clause" if we are actually succesfull next season. Oh but of course it will be because of Richard Hill not Wilko, I can see the excuses now.

Ted at 18:06:09 Sunday May 4 2003... usual condenscending nonsense. Who the hell do you think you are. The great arbiter of what is intelligent or for that matter Guttersnipe, probably one and the same i dont doubt. Spend more time discussin the issues instead of moaning about those that raise them. "I truly believe that with the influx of players that we are going to have,we are going to be a force to be reckoned with. The team starting next season is going to bare little resemblance to the losers that we have had this season." Is that right Ted? So you know who we are bring in then? People might be bord with fax and figs and stats but at least they add weight, unlike ur blinkered view. Don't think Gabby would be any use to us now except in some kind of coaching role to be honest but having read Martin Wilkinson's comments about what he needs for the side I have to wonder why he has not figured out that we need a midfield yet which only heightens by concern about his handling of the team. Listen to Ted and we will be heading for the Beazer Homes League while Rushden rush to the Premiership. Live in the real world. the real world is that as has been said before Wilkinson has won two games out of 14 in charge. This is not settling for second best it is settling for fourth best.
Anon at 23:07:59 Thursday May 8 2003

TRUST MEMBER (LIFE) first of all stop shouting second have another look at the accounts in the trust newsletter and you will see they are for 2001/2 not 2002/3 meaning that the amount the travel club put into the trust which was put into the SOS fund will be shown in next years published accounts as is usual and normal practice. The lack of donations for 2001/2 if you remember was because of the price war between the travel clubs!! The trust travel did have an agm and I amsure if you ring Jim Tomlin he will give you the minutes and answer any question you might still have. It seems to me that that would be a better way of going about things rather than making a fool of yourself on this site. Like MC Hammer I fail to see where Vince had a go at the ITC? I presume your sensitive nature may give away your identity and motive.
s.b.c. at 22:22:49 Thursday May 8 2003
why should the travel clubs hand over anything, after all the fans spend enough money travelling to support the club through mainly lean times, so they should make travel cheaper or piss the profits up the wall on the way home from the games.
!
vince at 22:20:38 Thursday May 8 2003
TRUST MEMBER (LIFE), Trust Travel are part of the trust and do not have a seperate AGM.(neither do Club 250 or any other activities of the trust) You are right to say that in the last financial year of the trust they did not pass over any funds but they have made a payment in the current year. As you probably know when STC was formed the opportunities for the trust to generate income from coach travel for NTFC was reduced but the service was continued as many trust members still wanted to travel with the trust. I don't think its a matter of who raises most money from running coaches - both STC and The Independent Travel Club (can't see why you thought I was having a go at them?) as well as the trust provide a good service by getting fans to away games to support the club. Who you travel with is not important and most people use the same travel club because they know the people they are travelling with. The trust are far more than a travel club and when it comes to raising funds I think the trust demonstrated that its members were as prepared as anyone to help the club when it was in deep s**t last year. It would be nice if fans could stop worrying over who runs the best travel club and just pulled togeather and supported the club

Now the season is over - if you are expecting others to be "open with the facts" how about making yourself known? STC announce their income and expenditure details at their AGM (held later in the year) and the Trust include details of income generated from all sources in their accounts (included in the latest newsletter) Not sure about The Independent Travel Club but if you ask them you may get a answer. Try making a few enquiries yourself, the information is available. If anyone who is not a trust member wants a copy of the latest newsletter email with your address and I'll put one in the post.

Now the season is over will each of the travel clubs tell us how much they raised and how much they passed on to the football club? I know this has been asked before with little response, but next year I will travel with the travel club who is most open with the facts so who is it?
Omar Riza at 10:02:23 Thursday May 8 2003
Is yet to sign a new contract, he is the sort of tricky player we cold do with signing, could play behind the front 2 and would create a load of chances. Also Stuart Barlow has been released from Tranmere, if we have the money we could build a team capable of getting 100pts next year, that would get 6,000+ people per week watching.

How about instead of naming a stand after Zimmer, we name a seat in the North Stand after him? You all know which one, the one the ball landed in after his free kick. Woah, nsb, one win in every seven for Wilko is one better than terry fenwick managed in seven? That makes him the perfect man for the job then. you have won the debate. i bow to your greater knowledge. F** some people talk such a load of sh*t on this forum as confirmed by ntid at 20:55:54 Wednesday May 7 2003 who never contributes anyting cept to act like a child over someone he dont tally with. F.. off to nene park or at least come out of the padded closet. the fact that very few of you can even be bothered to raise a glass to gabby really makes me doubt the supporters at sixfields. How many players with england caps have we ever attrcted never mind one that has more skill in his pinky that most of the rest of the sqaud have totally. ok over the top but hey if we had had the players to back him up as darlo did when he score a bucketload for them we would not be wingeing on about his dodgey knees. Martinw might wind some people up but f.. i i think he has a right to because this club is going down the swanee if we dont get real direction and why not have some fire in the belly that is backed with facts. what the f.. is wrong with that. Better than not having the facts like so many of hte cretins who pass for fans as witnessed below aspire to. big up to the cardozas and their cash but will we spend it wisely? with sgt wilko in charge? two wins out of 14. geddit everyone? Two wins out of 14. rushden fans must be laughing in their sleep. as for me, i just want to see us get the last f..ing laugh. Have always been proud to be a cobbler and i will be their next season rain, shine or f..ing sleet and hail but i dont know that i have any pride left. i need to be inspired. Our leader inspireth not.

and a packet of crisps, it may have escaped your attention that i agree we need pacy defenders like we need proven goalscorers. If you read the entry properly you will see that. Anyway, it doesnt take a bacherlor of football to work that one out. It's like as obvious as having a manager who has a decent record. Ooops. The point is that Wilko has talked about defence and strikers and has not mentioned midfield and with Hargreaves going, if that is to be believed, it is crucial that we have creative players in there. It's always been our problem. When you don't have anyone creative we always resort to hoof it football. You cannot fire a gun without bullets, my son. And we need bullets.

Has Rahim signed a new contract then?
Hargeaves a view at 18:13:35 Wednesday May 7 2003
We already have Brent Rahim and CC who can play left midfield and shifting Hargreaves from the wage bill will be another bonus for us. He has the ability to be brilliant for us but since Harsley signed he seems too happy to let him do the all the running. Hes been a good player but personally I would let him go

Question Time at 18:05:20 Wednesday May 7 2003
Where would YOU play Tom Youngs - Left midfield or striker? Is a midfield of Youngs, Harsley, Hargreaves / Trollope and Asamoah / Dudfield going to create enough chances for our new strikeforce (when they arrive)?

Had a long chat with Andy Rammell on Saturday, scored four goals for us in his last three games. He was approached by your manager to sign for The Cobblers before the transfer deadline but became so pi55ed off with the way he mucked him about that he decided to call it a day and then signed for The Gas. We hope he signs for next season, even if he only has one more season in him.

Chris Hargreaves possibly going back to Plymouth....if that wasn't bad enough, for free!!! this can't be right, he will be one of our better players.
And a Packet of Crisps at 16:37:02 Wednesday May 7 2003
Martin, it may have escaped your attention but we only have one recognised centre back (Sammo) and he's hardly Mr Speedy. Our Right back isn't available until at least September, we have no left back (CC is a better option in Left mid). All you seem to do is undermine absolutly anything Wilko says. If he said "we need a couple of midfielders" you'd have said "Wilko reckons we need midfielders, what about the defence." The season doesn't start next week, we have until mid July to get the players we need together. Be patient, be positive and above all stop taking swipes at the board, manager, assistant, coaches, players, Janet York, the tea lady and any other poor unfortunate you happen to vent your spleen on.
Pint of Carling please mate at 16:30:57 Wednesday May 7 2003
Stallard wouldn't cost as much as he should do as Notts are having to sell their best players to survive, ie Allsopp, Stallard etc are going cheap. Bit like the Barnes and Adcock situ I believe.
therealslimmartinw at 16:28:57 Wednesday May 7 2003
WHAT ABOUT A MIDFIELD? Firstly guttersnipe, you are clearly adding fuel to the moaners' flame then and I feel that my self worth is well and truly uplifted by you. Thank you, thank you. Also have you heard the phrase it takes one to know one and that if you read your entries they are all moans. The words pot, black and kettle spring to mind. And no SID THE PIG and I are not one and the same. I couldn't possibly come up with such an imaginative name. NTFCOK, I share your hope for the Cardozas, but disagree that we should be looking to Richard Hill. He wont be buying the players, Wilko will as is referenced by his current scouting trips and talks with managers, which is heartening to hear. My worry is when Wilko talks about his priority as a couple of proven goalscorers and a strong pacy back four. Nothing wrong with those, absolutely not. But we have forgotten we need a midfield. Trollope and Rickers are labouring players but lack inspiration and inventiveness. No point in having Ronaldo and Raul up front if the rest of there is nothing behind you. Actually can we have Ronaldo and Rual, Mr Cardoza, please. But you get the drift. Of course it will take time to get the right players, fans know it wont happen overnight. But you ignore the midfield and you in vite the hoof it long ball tactic and Coblers fans no all about that. A midfield not quite as important as winning games which we are failing to do.

Told to me on the Psychiatrist Couch
In the game of football there are in fact few successful clubs – even more significantly those clubs that are successful are the more frequently successful over an extended period of time. It therefore follows that unsuccessful clubs can quite accurately be predicted as going to be unsuccessful in the future.
It therefore follows that the obsessional moaners – i.e. the ones that repeat the same negative message over & over again, are in fact crying for help – in their real world they are rarely listened to, & rarely right, therefore to champion an opinion that has a likelihood of being correct will potentially raise their low self esteem. They thrieve on people reacting to their comments & will always revert to selected statistics & facts to back up their argument. They also tend to relish personal insults against them, because again it elevates their sense of recognition and paradoxically self worth.
Either that, or perhaps they just have very small penises.
Richard at 13:59:26 Wednesday May 7 2003
Stallard would be a great signing if we could get him, would cost a bit though. Hope we also get a left winger because i think Asamoah on the right will be great next year.

"We are determined to make sure we get the right players, but it may take a little time"
Cobblers boss Martin Wilkinson
COBBLERS boss Martin Wilkinson is hitting the road in a bid to find the players to turn the team into a title-winning force next season.
Wilkinson yesterday met with Nottingham Forest manager Paul Hart, tomorrow he's off to Merseyside to talk with Everton boss David Moyes and then on Friday it's Glasgow for a meeting with Rangers' Alex McLeish.
The Town boss is meeting all three managers with a view to sealing the long-term loans of targeted players, while he has also been busy on the telephone talking to clubs and agents.
Wilkinson also revealed that the club has made substantial cash bids for two top-rated Nationwide League Division Two strikers, and has already been in talks with several other high-profile targets.
It is set to be an exciting summer of activity for Cobblers fans, but Wilkinson has appealed for the supporters to be patient as he strives to find the right players to help the team bounce back from relegation.
"There are a lot of players available and our priority is a couple of proven goalscorers and a strong, pacy back four," said the Cobblers boss. "We are looking for quality and we are working hard at bringing the right men in.
"We are determined to make sure we get the right players, but it may take a little time."
Wilkinson also revealed that he is happy the club's end-of-season trip to Trinidad & Tobago was cancelled, as he feels the team travelling to the Caribbean would have been under strength and that the players need a rest.
"It means we will give the players a rest now," he said. "They need a break because I feel everybody is tired physically and mentally."
Meanwhile, Jerry Gill has been boosted by the news that his cruciate ligament injury is not as bad as first feared.
"Jerry had the operation on Friday and it was very successful," said Wilkinson. "The damage wasn't as bad as first thought. They now think he could be back by September, so if we can now sort him out a contract we will do."

Don't keep Gabbi at 09:50:15 Wednesday May 7 2003
..........I really don't understand this lobby for keeping Gabbi - he's been here 3 seasons scored an average of 8 goals each season, is palpably slower than when he arrived, gets too many cards for poorly executed deception, has cost us far more money that we can afford, his salary example being the reason other players asked for more (Steve Howard), he will be 36 next season, spend much of the first 2 seasons providing a dubious work rate, whilst showing flashes of undoubted skill & without doubt a character he never actually changed the course of many games in the frankly poor 3 seasons we have just had - so medical knowledge on knees or not it was absolutely the right decision not to give him a contract.
Guttersnipe at 08:58:24 Wednesday May 7 2003
Slim Martin W, who is clearly Sid the Pig on the official site has a curious profile on there – “Claret through & through and Cotton through & through” – to me that sound more like a description of a used tampon – whilst our vitriolic friend repeatedly causes a pain with depressing predictability, unfortunately it’s far more frequent than once a month!

we are not the only ones to be axeing all our players, it would seem that the massive clearout has become the new rock and roll, hopefully some skillful wheeling and dealing on the part og wilko/hill should result in some of the better players to have been axed coming here and not anywhere else......

Can't believe were back where we started, it's best run we've had since the sixties and now were back to square 1, ousted the manager who would of saved us, they reckon there was about ten clubs come in for broads the next day but atko strikes again and got himself a top man, and us the wooden spoon and a hole in our shoes,,,,,,,,,,,But I have alot of faith in the Cardozza's ,I feel they stepped in right at at the helm and take a firm grip,,, albeit a little late ,but maybe that,s the plan!!,, I hope Mr Hill chooses wisely and puts his scouting head on because there is alot of 1st and 2nd div players out there without contract's (on the Dole).......If We have money to spend unlike most of the team,s above and below us then we can build a squad...for the first time in ten years at least we look like we could have ourselves a chance to start a new season debt free and with a squad that will hopfully put bum's on seats and also be able to start the season at home and finish at home not like the days of ground sharing when we always played the disadvantage of playing the first 4 or 5 games away as well as the last few ( Always important) games of the season away too,,,,Sixfields has helped us in more ways than one but we now need to own our on ground and move forward we're far too big a place to have a team lounging about in the lower divisions ,, we have always supported the team superbly throughout the thick and thin's .....cheared and moaned too... but that's Northampton people for you..at least we know who we are !!!!!!!!!!!!! But something tells me that these new owners are different and it really is time for change.............

There IS possibly a hint of jealousy over Diamonds success (and our downfall), but as i keep telling my afore~mentioned boss, i would never go and watch them over The Cobblers ~ even if they were in the Premiership! Cobblers will ALWAYS be my number 1 team...and no matter what happens, we will ALWAYS have 90 odd more years history than them!! Roll on August!
Is this Rushden thing rivalary or jealousy? at 07:05:02 Tuesday May 6 2003
You make sure you lot get promoted next season no offence to Rushden a Diamonds but it ain't the same however I'm the first one to say well done to their club and what they've achieved in a very short ammount of time, for christ sake they've just won the THIRD DIVISON CHAMPIONSHIP and are now in the same divison as Sheff Wed-Brighton-and maybe teams like QPR, Bristol C or even Cardiff, give them some credit for what they've achieved.
It would appear from reading some of the posts on here is that Griggs has used his millions to manufacture a succsesful football club...so what?
I know both Wobbs and Posh would like someone to take our respective clubs by the bollocks shift out the shit and build a succsesful club and side.
Yep sorry guys you're jealous as hell of little old Rushden and Diamonds.

theantiTEd at 15:37:03 Monday May 5 2003
Ted, here are times i think you are Rushden fan using a cunning disguise. Richard Hill said that we were a team that didnt know how to win. Of course he is here to try and change things although nothing has changed and certainly not when you consider what some say is a meaningless match against Mansfield. Howver if you think that battling to stop being bottom of the league is meaningless then priorities must be questioned. Richard Hill has promise but my worry is that too much is being expected him from desperate fans eager to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Like UFO watchers conjuring up possible sightings my fear is that we are looking for the hand of Hill when we will actually get the wisdom of Wilkinson. How Ted can you already say that we are going to be a force to be reckoned with with the influx of players we are going to have. Have you got some kind of crystal ball that reveals exactly who they are going to be and how they perform? Are you really saying that having a team that bears absolutely no resemblance to the present side is a good thing. Have you heard of the word continuity. Changes need to be made but i am surprised Gabby was not kept in some kind of player coach capacity unless of course he was offered that and it was turned down. Some may admire your blinkered positivity. I think you are naive to the core.

To say that Gabby could not give us another season in the squad in the Third shows the kind of ignoramous that you are. Annoying isnt the word for irritants like you. Sorry to be personal but maybe if you have a doze of your own medicine you might just be a bit more courteous to the diverse range of opinion on here. Oh, did you go to Mansfield then? Bet I know the answer.

direones fans haven't even got their own message board so they have to come on here to be ridiculed. Anon at 21:43 congratulate diamonds for getting promoted and overtaking the cobblers!! what are you on. If thats maturity and humility then you can have my share and stick where the sun don't shine (Nene Park)

Hi
Anon at 21:43:31 Sunday May 4 2003
Hmmm - pathetic post. Why can't you congratulate the Diamonds on achieving promotion - probably something you never thought they would - and overtaking the Cobblers in the league ranking. No, that would require maturity and humility, wouldn't it. I bet that they haven't had to put up with the woeful displays we have endured this season either.

Just look at what you have written.
Hmmm at 21:25:18 Sunday May 4 2003
Hmmm I wonder if the direones will have an open top bus tomorrow on bank holiday like the super Cobbs did when they won the play off? how many will turn up if they do? have they got a market square to drive it to? Nah small club, small club mentality, they wont want to show themselves up by admitting that their fan base is smaller than the attendance at an adam ant concert. I heard when they travelled to Orient to clinch promotion that they took 250 fans!! the cobblers took 800 to Mansfield yesterday just to see them get relegated!! All togehter after three... NON LEAGUE...YOU'LL ALWAYS BE NON LEAGUE...YOU'LL ALWAYS BE NON LEAGUE...YOU'LL ALWAYS BE NON LEAGUE...NON LEAGUE......

Not at the prices they'll be charging for next season I won't. I'll watch us away

Tag..You are either very young, and for that I'll excuse your lack of intelligence or you are just another of the idiots who come on here with their meaningless posts.Just take a look at what you have written" If you want to continue to see a team who by Richard Hill's own admission doesn't know how to win then carry on" The whole point of the debate is that Richard Hill has been brought in to change all that is wrong with the team.I truly believe that with the influx of players that we are going to have,we are going to be a force to be reckoned with. The team starting next season is going to bare little resemblance to the losers that we have had this season. Anyone who calls for another year of Gabbi, you must be joking! His legs are now so bad that he can only last for a maximum of half an hour a game. What's the point of that! Gomez.. You know that like all the other " I'm not renewing my season ticket" brigade,as soon as we sign the first couple of decent players you'll be down to Sixfields with your dosh.Liston to Ted and you'll not go wrong!

Well Woody,if Posh are best in the county then that make us third best
Woody at 16:06:56 Sunday May 4 2003
Buzz, Diamonds are probably the best team in the Irthlingborough/Rushden area (with the possible exception of Finedon Victoria Youth) but I am afraid one swallow does not make a summer, hard as it may be to admit it Frank Grande summed up in the chron that the best team in the County is at the moment the Posh (Peterborough are still in the Northamptonshire Football Association)But the Cobblers will bounce back and the sooner the two clubs meet the better that will be the only record that counts.
buzz lightyear at 14:31:48 Sunday May 4 2003
Anon you sometimes have to swallow your pride and accept Diamonds are the best team in the county, sure things can change but for now we look a million lights years away from the village team.
FAO ashcobb at 13:57:21 Sunday May 4 2003
Do you mean the Underwood who fucked it up and conned that dimmo McRitchie to waste what little money he had?

Anon at 10.42, we should not take any pride from this season. The only thing we can be is thankful that the club isn't in receivership and we do have something to look forward to in August. Fair report by SlimMartin, I agree with what you implied about the midfield in that whilst all of them individually are ok-ish and should be good enough for the third they dont work well as a unit and the balance seems wrong. Defence needs a total overhaul. One of the things said at the open forum on thursday was that according to the physio Gabbis knees have gone and he wont play much at all next season, thanks for what you've given us Marco - it could have been so much more but now its time to move on.
therealslimmartinw at 11:57:31 Sunday May 4 2003
DEPRESSING DISPLAY, GABBYGABBY BYE BYE: A difficult match to make a judgement on but I have to say my hopes were high that we could win this and not be rooted to the bottom, especially as you are hearing on five live all the bleedin time how diamonds could win the third.
The motivation was definitely there to avoid the wooden spoon in a game that was unbelievably scrappy at times.
With a new face in charge of the team with Wilko on more botching missions and what i thought would be an extra determination to avoid coming bottom, i really believed we could get something out of this with Mansfield without a win in at least 11 matches.
By all accounts the Mansfield side bore no resemblance with a 17 year old kid eventually being brought in up front.
And what irony to see Keith Welch, one of the best Cobblers signings in recent years, content to sit on the bench for Mansfield instead of surely a regular first team berth for us.. a sign in hindsight that all was not well. As was the departure of Hunty and Savage to play Third Division football. If Welchy had hung around long enough he would have been a Cobblers legend. COME BACK!
Sadly there was no sign of a goodbye from Frainy who there was no sign of from my vantage point.
Field Mill is atruly deppresing ground and a sign of things to come with Third Division Football beckoning and that stupid stag of a mascot should be shot.
Thoughts about gaining pride were borne out when we looked pretty lively first half, with Stampy, who has shown glimpses of something every time i have seen him,
But we lacked confidence and quality even after Stampy's faster that fast goal.
Dudfield, a fourth string Hull cast, laboured away but achieved little and it was no surprised that Luke Chambers came on after just about 15 minutes of the second half. On this showing, if Dudfield is an example of the first or second division standard players to come then my bum is made of gold. Still, never know, he could do a Steve Howard.
In fairness we could have been in bigger poo. They had more than twice the number of attempts at goal by my reckoning and if it wasn't for Glyn Thompson in goal who made a few fine saves, the result would have been more embarrassing.
The central midfield area to me still lacks and don't forget Trollope and Harsley are in the plans for next season.
Gabby, showed why he was worth persevering with if wage demands came down, coming on for Stamp who it looked like had some problem with his foot. He missed two clear cut chances at the end to give us an undeserved draw but only after creating them out of nothing. The only way it was going to happen. He has still got that twisting dribbling ability, to get into those positions and whoever picks up up, if they play him right of midfield will get an intelligent player who can score you goals. You don't get and England cap for nothing. Probably best deeper now because of his lack of pace.
Chris Hargreaves, who missed one golden opportunity, is definitely worth keeping, but you feel he needs to be inspired by others around him and he doesn't get that.
But Junior Mendez for the Stags had also messed up a couple of opportunities in the first for Mansfield, even though we had most of the possession in the first.
We barely had time to catch breath when one of the goodbye boys Richard Hope set up Stampy with what was a glorious long ball, even though,it seemed, before he had even struck it people were groaning. Bloody annoying that.
Young Morrison had a chance soon after that and s hould have done better after firing over the bar from Trollope's free kick.
Unfortunately that intial surge gave way to what was a dominent Mansfield team in the final third and you wouldn't have thought they were a side that were struggling. Maybe we make sides like this shower look good.
Their equaliser was a simple cross and header which really should have been meat and drink for a defence.
Junior Mendez finally got his reward for being a total menace when he was pushed blatantly i thought in the penalty area and then converted the resulting penalty to go 2-1 up.
Then it was the Gabby i-want-a-new-club show.
All in all clear that we need to start from scratch preferably with someone other than Wilko at the steering wheel.
Midfield doesn't dominate and has no guile. I still say whenever we have played Gabby there in the past he shows the kind of intelligence we need to inject into midfield.
Up front Stamp, if given more time could be a good squad player. At the back we look like we havent a club with 'marking' a word consigned to classroom teachers at times.
We can say, it didnt matter, but their fans thought it did, a confidence booster for them and a victory ensuring they didnt have the wooden spoon.
Ironic that the one player who showed it at the end was Gabby .. and it was his farewell performance.
Goodbye Marco.. we are DEFINITELY not worthy.
Anon at 10:42:00 Sunday May 4 2003
Can we take pride in coming bottom of the league while Rushden get promotion as champions? I don't think so.

Who the hell do you think you are going on about not being negative and yet you are so quick to have a go at other fans who are equally if not more loyal than you. Give it a rest and maybe our club will go somewhere. If you want to continue to see a team who by Richard Hill's own admission doesn't know how to win then carry on. Just accept that others are going to have a different view from yourselv.

Glad this season is over now. Time will tell whether the promised land is going to materialise and whether the Cardoza's are an Underwood or a McRitchie. I can't bear to think about the latter so I will keep the former to the fore. The only thing I want to remember from this season is Colchester, Luton and Port Vale at home. These were fantastic games with the best results and performances I can remember in recent years. The centre of defence has to be the priority to address this summer. We have got to become difficult to beat so an opportunity like yesterday can regularly turn into a 1-0 win. I think we are so down at the moment that an immediate bounce back would be exceptional and playoffs next year would be a more realistic target. If you look at last years relegated teams all is not lost. Wrexham 3rd, Bournemouth 4th, Bury 7th and Cambridge 12th. I fear we are the Cambridge of this year but with more financial backing to get us back. I share the doubts about MW but he is the man and we have to hope the new management team play to theur strengths. MW identifying and securing the right players, RH knocking them into a cohesive and passionate unit on the training field and MK continuing to work on the youth. He should be remembered this season for what the U19s did not the couple of games he was in charge due to MWs unfortunate circumstances.

Sorry to dissapoint, but the post at 08:41 on Saturday was not from me. I am afraid the confusion as to who does run the council could cause some delay to a decision being made over the future of Sixfields but we will continue to push for a speedy resolution. I drove back from Mansfield yesterday thinking thank christ the season is over, in many ways yesterdays game was typical, the promise of a skillful footballing display for the first 10 mins was soon rubbed out by our inability to push ourselves beyond the half way line. Mansfield have struggled this year after shining the year before but the team they put out yesterday was mostly under 19. 11 of those taking part as starters or subs have come through their youth set up so god luck to them. Next year i believe it will be us and Mansfield together with one of the play off contenders from this years div 3 who will be contesting top spot. Finnaly to whoever my imposter was isay the shoe museum is treasure we should be proud of as it illustrates our cultural and industrial heritage. And I intend to represent my constituents far beyond the next general election!!

Gomez cut the crap now if you had read any previous posting or gone to the trust meeting, you would realise that Wilko has had more on his mind than just the cobblers recently his mind may not have been on the job 100% and quite rightly so. No-one can predict who is coming in to the club during the summer, peronally i am confident about what i have heard.Too much has been made of Wilkos record at Carlisle..he had a wage cap enforced on him by knighton,of £300 hardly gonna attract quality is it,so now will be the TRUE test of his managerial abilities and with the coaching sense of Hilly we'll be fine.
From wot i can make out, only about 4 of yesterdays starters will be 1st choice next year.
Pihuan at 07:22:59 Sunday May 4 2003
Disapointing way to finish the worst season ever. Optimism is going to need careful nurturing over the close season, and I think a major signing needed soon, if only to enthuse wavering season ticket holders. If they get a sense that there might be something else to do on Saturday afternoons they could be lost forever! I know, I've seen it happen! Personally think Stamp and Dudfield could be really good, and astonished at the revelation that Stamp has never been coached. We still want a powerful centre forward too. Anyway roll on next season, goodbye Gabbi and John Frain, you both leave lots of good memories.

Gomez at 22:31:53 Saturday May 3 2003
There is no place for sentiment in football. Martin Wilkinson may be a nice bloke, but he will take us to the conference. Cardoza - If you have any sense to go with your money then lose this man now - move him upstairs, whatever. Do you really trust this man to spend your money? Lets have a fresh start next season. Now is the ideal time to bring in a decent manager who would have the scope to construct his own team during the summer. You know it makes sense.

That game was nearly as bad as my spelling, sorry.
Ralph2 at 22:06:40 Saturday May 3 2003
Just goes to show its a game of differing opinions,I thought Trollope was awfull today,he didn't seem to be aware of opposing players around him let alone ours. Thompson was outstanding.Like you say CC looked good going forward in the second half his pace and trickery caused them problems but maybe he needs to be given the chance to express himself more often as his trickery confused him at times.Stamp did have a good game, took the goal well and even showed some good flicks and passes WHAT ABOUT THE BACK HEAL IN THE FIRST HALF to put Dudfield through.Morison played a lovely back heal in the second half.I never , ever thought I would say this but Dudfield showed signs of things to come, if he gets back to full fitness and regains his confidence he may well prove to be an astute signing. We are desperate for two good central defenders with pace,I don't think we would be going too far wrong if we tryed to get Mansfields young C/B Baptiste,he had outstanding speed and read the game very well, aswell as being strong and aggressive.Mansfield are a young team and impressed me in the second half just as they did at Sixfields. We aren't going to get rid of Wilkinson so we need to get behind the team from the off next season.Stamp has taken a lot of stick, maybe so much so that he didn't acknowledge the ovassion he got when walking in front of us when subbed.I personally wouldn't have minded if he had given us the v's you couldn't blame him. That was a shite season (ROCK BOTTOM)but I am looking forward to next season with hope of good times to come.By the way,I thought it was a good turn out today.

Towny. All the best for the summer . See you next season.
SRee at 20:15:38 Saturday May 3 2003
Darren Stamp played well today until his injure, in fact his best performance by a long way. Paul Trollope also had his best game for the Cobblers. Paul Harsley had a very quiet game and it makes you wonder if Harsley and Trolliope can ever be a successful partnership.
CC played well going forward, when he was pushed into midfield following Dudfield going off.
But overall we started bright but gradually got pushed further and further back and it was only time before we were over whelmed
A very disapointing result to a disappointing season. It can only get better? So cheer up and buy that season ticket see you in August with a new season ticket and a new home shirt?
Best wishes SRee

TCMP. Thanks for swift reply ,cant you sleep ? Do you think the Cardoza Family will own Sixfields site by the end of the year? Havent noticed much American Colonisation at Sixfields apart from TGI Fridays .
TCMP at 08:41:42 Saturday May 3 2003
The local elections will not affect the sale of Sixfields to Cardoza. The long term aims of the council to reduce costs remain as before but the tories will not have the co-operation that Labour has always received from the average man on the street. If the ground is not sorted soon the council will attract more and more negative publicity as the commitment of subsidising a site that is only used by a very small proportion of Northampton residents becomes further marginalised, you only have to look at the shoe museum. Meanwhile I will continue to support my constituents until the next general election which should be very interesting indeed particularly with the oncoming issues of the euro and further support for american colonisation becoming high on the agenda. It's good to have the Cobblers issues to lighten my load.

I saw the rich list thing last week Bubbles and reading between the lines I can understand why all those Griggs redundances were made, obviously the problem was not reduction in sales, because according to the report the turnover was 189 million for the year with a loss of 34 million.Obviously the real problem was making footwear in England, where wages are much higher than the wages in China. Expect to see a big upswing in profit within the next two years

Wilkinson also said how impressed he is with Paul Trollope, a model professional from diet through to the way he trains. Apparently he warm-up and warm-down routines are meticulous. At a recent game the football league 'drugs squad' turned up to do an on the spot test and chose Trollope which caused much mirth in the dressing room and one player suggested that they try MacGregor!!! In turn this was ceased upon by a wag in the audience last night who pointed out 'if MacGregor WAS using performance enhancing drugs he ought to demand his money back!' (allegedly)
Ralph at 21:14:28 Friday May 2 2003
Last night Martin Wilkinson reckoned that we will have a squad of around 24 next season, Harper, Thompson, Gill, Carruthers, Sampson, Harsley, Rickers, Hargreaves, Trollope, Asamoah, Morison, Dudfield, Lincoln, Stamp makes 14 plus two strikers = 16. We need at least three defenders which will bring us up to 19 and then we may have to wait a few weeks into the new season before bringing in more.
Ralph at 21:04:44 Friday May 2 2003
I'm not a big fan of Darren Stamp but . . . I was intrigued by Richard Hill's claim last night that give him and Mick Kearney 12 months and they will turn Stamp in to a class centre forward. Apparently he has NEVER been coached and Hill reckons he has an awful lot to offer us. He obviously is very confident in Stamps ability and who am I to disagree!

Richard I think No 1 priority has to be a Strong & powerful Centre forward with pace who knows how to net . Ever since Steve Howard was
sold we have been on a steady decline and I dont think the two are unconnected.
Richard at 17:07:56 Friday May 2 2003
170k on a couple of strikers seems a lot of money, what we need is a player who can open teams up (ie a Dave Savage sort of player) someone who is prepared to get past the front two and who isn't scared to give the defenders of the other team some problems. I think Stamp will be a good player given a full pre-season, he wins 70-80% of the balls in the air we just need a striker to onto these flicks and a midfielder to join the other striker. Also I hope we play with wingers because we can get some good crosses into him as well. I think 3-5-2 is the way to go, two wide players and one pushing on from midfield would still leave 3 at the back and 2 solid centre midfielders.
Lutterworth at 16:53:57 Friday May 2 2003
From last nights meeting I was impressed with the openess and passion that Martin Wilkinson conveyed, I think he got the point from a number of fans about the general opinion of Dudfield. However when we sign him (not if) then I think he will be more of a squad player rather than an automatic starter ie think of him in terms of last years signing of Lincoln rather than Harsley or Trollope. Wilkinson and Hill seem to get on well and enjoy working together, and I agreed with their opinions on Stamp and Asamoah. Also liked the good natured dig at Steve Riches and the story about Gabbi/Trollope/McGregor.
LH at 15:57:20 Friday May 2 2003
Slim Martin. Whats important is us signing players who are good enough
to play in Div 1 or 2 . Surely where they are playing at the moment is irrelevant. What struck me was that Josh Lowe was a similar Physique to Dudfield and they were both playing wide ie: not what you think of traditional wide players. If there is no Transfer fee and
no great salary then I think it could be an astute signing and maybe
one for the future. He played well against Plymouth & improves with every game . Give him a chance you may be pleasently surprised. Or arent you able to give people a chance Martin ?
Paul S at 15:23:21 Friday May 2 2003
Actually I thought Dudfield has been okay - certainly better than Steve Howard when he first arrived here. LH I presume the comment about Josh Lowe - who tore us up at Sixfields - was that Dudfield managed to quieten him down in the second half so much so that he had to swap over to the left hand side to continue to cause us grief.
therealslimmartinw at 14:24:41 Friday May 2 2003
Whatever happened to the Wilko manifesto signing players from higher divisions? I thought he meant all of them, not just half a dozen or so. Still, whatever he'd said or whoever he signs, he'll be wrong. Tghank you.

Firsly, Paul S, a the trust meeting, there was talk about signing two further strikers for a total cost of £170,000, see below. As for Mr Dudfield, I have seen him in action, wasnt impressed but whatever happened to the Wilko manifesto signing players from higher divisions? Anyway, finally.......
COBBLERS FANS LAP UP SERIE A: With Serie A back in fashion having fallen on hard times, it may surprise you that Cobblers fans are among the most likely to visit the likes of the San Siro. The stadiums have become must see destinations and Paul Saxton of Fan Fare Events who runs tours from England to Italian matches says a large number of his customers are fans of lower league clubs, naming Northampton Town and Port Vale who would have no chance of playing there.
"It is a combination of the big-name players playing in the top cities. It is something completely different for the average fan," he said.
"We are talking about Northampton Town or Port Vale fans who take the chance to go to the San Siro, they know they are never going to see their team play there.
"We get amazing repeat business, people get bitten by the bug and there are a number of fans who go out to Italian matches four or five times in a season."
Maybe the real reasons is that we are suckers for boring football.
Open Minded Observer at 13:53:12 Friday May 2 2003
Tag - what a graceless individual you are - no Ted did not lick martin Wilkinson's boots, who fielded the easy & not so easy questions with a sense of humour - but of course you were not there and prefer to base your opinions on his Carlisle record (Where it was revealed Michael Knighton put a £300 per week limit on all players - one wonders how some of your top managers would have performed in those circumstance). Yes I share some of your concerns but from what I've heard last night I would certainly not give the management team the negative shite you and your double act Sprinkler dish out.
LH at 13:14:05 Friday May 2 2003
Slim Martin just out of interest have you also seen Josh Lowe play for Oldham ? I will explain all when / if you respond.
LH at 13:12:32 Friday May 2 2003
Slim Martin how many times have you seen Dudfield play & did you see him play against Plymouth ?
Paul S at 12:59:10 Friday May 2 2003
Does anyone know what the is the likelyhood of us signing Liam Chilvers for next season. If we do do you think we'll be playing a wing back system again with CC and LC and Sammo (or maybe Trollope)marshalling 2 more centre backs. Don't reckon we're likely to see many more strikers - we've already got 5 (Asa, Youngs, Stamp, Morison and now it looks like Dudfield as well). I reckon we need someone to boss the midfield - a younger Darren Caskey for instance.
9224 at 12:03:42 Friday May 2 2003
Dudfield actually impressed me against Plymouth (horrendous away kit by the way) and looks like he could be a decent right-winger who could also run into the box to get on the end of left-wing crosses, giving us another goalscoring option. Trollope as well was good v Plymouth. I think he is better suited to a patient, ball playing team then he is to how we were this season and with a bit of confidence may prove his worth next season, he obviously has talent, we're just yet to see it all. As for signing strikers, we perhaps need one more, a proven goalscorer with size and strength, but maybe two new ones is excessive - we'll see. We need to sign a new back four, and perhaps a more effective left-winger. We'll be ok on the goalkeeping front if Lee Harper loses a stone or so and returns to how he was at the start of the season - no wonder he suffered a stress fracture when he started running! It's just possible he may have eaten all the pies this season

DUDFIELD CERTAIN TO JOIN COBBLERS: Hull City have confirmed that Lawrie Dudfield hAS parted company with Hull City and that he looks certain to take a wage cut to join the Cobblers.
Dudfield, who admits he was way down the pecking order is already talking as if he is a Northampton Town player. Nice swap, Dudfield for Forrester. It's restored my faith, not.
If we have got the money why are we taking this guy on when he is not even second string or third string at Hull.
Dudfield has agreed a severance package with the Hull over the remaining 12 months of his contract, indicating that he has a club to go to.
Dudfield said: "In the last few months I seem to have taken a few steps backwards and I realised I did not really figure in the plans for next season.
"Jamie Forrester, Daniel Webb and Ben Burgess have all been brought in and it looks as though at least two more strikers could arrive during the summer.
"I know I was down the pecking order. I suppose I could have stayed but I've had enough of grafting hard all week for five minutes on Saturday afternoon.
"I'll miss Hull - and especially the fans. They've been great to me, even when things haven't always gone well and I genuinely wish them all the best for the future."
Dudfield became City's record buy when the Tigers splashed out £250,000 to sign him from Leicester City in June, 2001.
Ironically, the Leicester manager at the time was Peter Taylor and that's led to speculation the pair did not see eye-to-eye.
Dudfield said: "I need to start playing regularly again and I'm sure the move to Northampton will provide that. I've still got confidence in my ability and I know I can bounce back."
No details of the 23-year-old's severence package have been announced, although the player has received a compensation payment and will take a substantial wage-cut at Northampton.

Spot on, macc.Exciting to hear that we are spending a bit of money for once. Good to hear that we have some. Problem I have is how it is spent. Blowing £175,000 in total on proven strikers is over the top when we leak goals and cannot create. Harsley has been great the past season but hardly a creater while Trollope has been a huge disappointment. The two seem to me to be too similar. Most know how I feel about Martin Wilkinson's appointment with his record and about how he manages. This is another example to me. With Dudfield, which i cant beleve, Youngs and Asamoah already on board as well as Morrison coming through are we not in danger of having too many instead of having quality. We are lacking all over the pitch and bringing in mediocrities like Dudfield who Hull don't want seems to me to be a waste. Money isn't everything, i'ts what you do with it, as Diamonds have now found out. Remember how we laughed when we got shot of Tirley for over £100,000? Let's not end up in the same boat. I take it, Ted, that you did your best to licks the shoes of Martin Wilkinson and tell him what a wise and wonderful football man he is. Actions speak louder than words.

Hotel ender, you have mail, boy do you have mail.
Macc Cobblers at 08:53:34 Friday May 2 2003
As far as I see it, we have an issue with 1)the goalkeeping position especially the performances of Harper 2)the defence, we have not got one 3)the midfield, struggled last season with lack of creativity and in particular the Harsley/Trollope midfield combination which did not work, and created problems elsewhere in the team 4)the forwards (need a natural goalscorer)- add to that 5) the lack of pace, ball winners, and the inability to create many chances, Wilko has a lot of work to do in the close season.

begtodiffer at 00:52:55 Friday May 2 2003
Beg to differ with some of those comments. I also attended and while wilKS and co gave a great presentation it sounded very staged and too neat. Enthusiasm is what i would expect it woudl be falure if thre wasntg any. I still left not relly knowing how Martin Wilkinson came to be in the position where he is spending this money. Personally I am not fussed about the amount of money being spent more the quality of player. You only have to see who is available free nowadays to know there are good people about. The Dudfield signing is a woeful one and i am scared that we are spending all the time talking about strikers because it is what most people want to hear when we need midfielders and defenders. It's all a bit lopsided and I remain very very concerned.Maybe the money should be saved to pay the wages. Martin Wilkinson remains convincing as a top decent bloke but that's it as far as i am concerned.
Sprinkler at 00:40:16 Friday May 2 2003
Very positive, but you would expect it. I still remain concerned about Martin Wilkinson's background though. Good double glazing salesmen don't necessarily have great double glazing. Very warm and likeable as you would expect. I remain troubled about Martin having control of the money when I still feel someone else would make a better fist of it. Ted, Towny you have to realise that it is easier to raise easy questions in that kind of environment than it is to raise challenging ones, certainly for someone like myself. I hope Martin makes a fist of it, i really do.

Well just got back from the trust meeting and have to say I left there with a lot more hope than I've had for a long time!Well done to Wilkinson,Hill and Kearney for speaking not to bullshit us but to give us a bit of passion and truth for a change. One thing that the majority of us didn't know was the seriousness of Wilko's wifes injuries, and myself and all true Cobbs fans must thank him for his commitment and passion at such a difficult time for his family and nothing but our best wishes should got to them for a speedy and healthy recovery. On the football side of things there were some good questions tonight and also the usual doom and gloomers!Lets ask ourselves when was the last time we herd our manager talk about £100,000 signings and beleiving it? When was the last time we herd so much positive stuff come from our manager and board, never would be close to the mark!I know we are all sceptical about it but let us not slag it of , lets give them all our support and who knows with a bit of luck,a lot of hard work and good support from us the fans we just might suprise a lot of people..............Good luck to all of them!!!

I must admit that I didn't realise that Wilko's wife was so seriously hurt from the crash.Fractured skull, then a stroke and paralised down one side. What that man has had to put up with in the last few weeks!
Ted at 22:03:16 Thursday May 1 2003
Superb meeting tonight, and nice to see a couple of moaners attend too.Although it must be said that they were far outnumbered by an optimistic and jovial audience.Nice to see a great turnout aswell, certainly the biggest that I've seen. There's life in the old club for sure, and for the first time in our history we have genuine rich people running the club who are willing to part with their cash for the good of the town.Look out for the six figure signing coming soon!
Towny at 21:57:31 Thursday May 1 2003
i Ive just got back, and was well impressed with both of the managers, strait from the heart stuff,i know people will say "they only say what you want to hear" And come on you statisticians lay off Wilko, the shit hes had to put up with since he took over, personally too i wouldnt have blamed him if hed jacked in but hes still here and loves the club.Dudfield signing as a squad player IS a good move, and bids of £100.000 and £75.000 for PROVEN strikers cant be bad lets hear some positives now all you cynics.
FAO Sprinkler at 21:37:07 Thursday May 1 2003
"...be on Sgt Wilko's back and at the slightest opportunity. Not my style..." Nope! You'll be just whingeing away on CC as ALWAYS!
Sprinkler at 18:41:11 Thursday May 1 2003
It's good to see a touch of humility from the likes of Towny i think it might become infectious. I will be at the meeting if I get released from work. respect these that genuinely care about the MIGHTY cobblers, please. those that say the cynics are in the minority and that they need to fake it should not just read the comments but talk to the fans. Mark my wordss when things go wrong next season they will all be on Sgt Wilko's back and at the slightest opportunity. Not my style. That's no good for the club. we do have too many moaners but there is complaining for complaining's sake and those who are sincerely scared that we will are in a downward spiral. I think the John Frain comments are over the top though. had a moment of magic and then was solid loyal and a not very inspiring captain. there are those that are more worthy . Like Martin Wilkinson!!!!!!
Bazza at 18:32:15 Thursday May 1 2003
Doesn't look as if we'll have Paul Reid next season going by the Off Site.

Im sorry did i ruffle some feathers with my Frainy comments,i dont care, Lets see tonight at the forum meeting,The real dim, tag, sprinkler,rwilks97....and all the anons come put your veiws to Martin and Richard tell them strait what you think,, i'll be there and will applaud you ,not your veiws mind cos they still stink..Im sure Ted,MCHammer,Ralph, whoever will respect you for that but dont hide away now....7-30 for 8-00 start. I may be a typical town fan,but ive been typical for 30yrs and so have 1000s more.

Simple! - it was a rhetorical question.

I also heard that Hope, Spedding and Burgess were on their way to say goodbye but were all overcome with the same narcoleptic condition which was so evident during their recent performances on the pitch.
Bloody Madness Of Not at 14:58:31 Thursday May 1 2003
I didn't actually express an opinion with the particular aim of causing embarrassment. How can you criticise the current management with head buried in the towel.Yes I agree John Frain should remain anonymous, for that is what you are,no different to anyone without causing justification this board just take the element of facts that they are overweight and often appears lazy,um............i think you know my views on this matter.......................bingy
SIMPLE! at 14:48:18 Thursday May 1 2003
Martin Wilkinson is in charge and therefore responsible!
Macc Cobblers at 14:41:45 Thursday May 1 2003
For anybody going tonight, a question I would like answering is who within the management team was "in charge" for the Brentford game. That was the day that I knew that the Club had thrown the towel in as far as staying up - in respect of their team selection, tactics and performance.
Bit of Balance.......... at 13:52:36 Thursday May 1 2003
No, I think you will find I didn't actually express an opinion on the debate & I'm certainly not using selective facts to support the management - I also share concerns about extending MW's contract beyond the season (I certainly think another change this season not only would not have saved us but would have been too hurried to make the right decision)- I just think the witch hunt mentality is wrong & can actually be very powerful & destructive - despite what people say it can go beyond just words on the internet.... (I wonder what set the thought process off in the individual who bricked Glen Roader's windows?)

rwilks97, I'd like to think that JF has a sense of humour, unlike pompous b**t**ds like you.

you are no different to anyone on this board who uses facts and circumstance as you put it to suit your argment. it suits you to have your view with the particular aim of surrounding the current management with head buried in the sand kudos. Face facts, everybody thinks they know best. You are no different.
rwilks97 at 13:25:10 Thursday May 1 2003
I am reliably informed. That's all i can say without causing embarrassment. Maybe even if JF was asked he would have declined judging by the comments below. The kind of people you hear getting on the backs of players all the time but then there was no effort.
FAO rwilks97 at 13:01:34 Thursday May 1 2003
I heard that Martin Wilkinson told John Frain that if he came anywhere near the ground he would be shot. That MW is a bastard as I know you'll agree. I think he'll arrange for an 'accident' to happen to Sammo so he won't have to give him a testimonial. Bloody hell, I've just read what I've written and I'm getting as stupid as you! Better take the medicine.
Bazza at 12:53:29 Thursday May 1 2003
I heard that John Frain was on his way to Sixfields to say goodbye but was running a bit late. Just as he was walking down the road to the bus stop, he noticed that the bus was already there and about to depart. John broke into a run and probably would have made it if he hadn't been pushed out of the way by an old lady who overtook him and ironically, tripped him with her zimmer frame.
Anon at 12:39:56 Thursday May 1 2003
so whose going to the trust meeting tonight? and shall we all wear name tags?
marco at 12:09:13 Thursday May 1 2003
john frain - forever remembered for goal at Wembley, good club servant, adequate player over last few years, good reader of the game but too often caught out for pace especially in midfield particularly over last few seasons. Couldn't warrant a regular place. Good bye John thanks for your efforts. How can you criticise the club when for all we know it was his decision not to say farewell to the crowd. As for naming a stand, you're having a laugh, I seem to remember someone on here suggesting naming the north stand after him. In case you hadn't noticed that stand is already named after a true legend Dave Bowen. Enough said.
Bit of Balance.... at 11:49:40 Thursday May 1 2003
Yes I agree John Frain should have had an opportunity to say goodbye - the point is we don't actually know why he was not there - it may of been his decision, he may have been talking with, or guest of another club, he may have been having treatment on an injury, his young child may have been ill, he may just have decided that he wanted to silently slip away (possibly even against the wishes of the management)etc etc - it is very easy if you are in critical mode to use facts & circumstance to suit your argument & as I said before there is a body of people who do just that with the particular aim of surrounding the current management with bad press. I think a previous poster was very correct in stating most people on this board think they know best, when in reality they are just expressing opinions (some good, some bad & some potentially destructive)
Anon at 11:41:05 Thursday May 1 2003
Eagle this has got silly i think martinw is a twat but not that much of a twat. You on the other hand are a prize (censored).
rwilks97 at 11:38:00 Thursday May 1 2003
Bit of balance has got it wrong. John Frain was past his best and it was predictable he would leave but because of his age. He remains one of our most loyal servants and I think he has been treated shabbily not because he has not been resigned but because it would be normal to allow him to say goodbye properly. I told my six-year-old that there ws bound to be a farewell at half time. Sadly no and make no apologies for my disgust. Confused like others about fans loyalty on this. Can but hope that John will make some sort of farewell appearance at Mansfield.

As i said before, nothing changes on CC. all the same infantile crap as before. if we stopped making crazy theorys and quit having a pop at each other we might actually get some consensus. maybe we should have a pact no personal attacks on players while on the pitch and fans when merely passing comment.

Eagle Bitter United Counties League has a very similar writing style to Ted, Towny, 9224, grounddog day, fao.... Any conclusions to be drawn on that? Maybe Ted has more than one guise. Or maybe TCMP is all of them. Worth thinking about. Not.

After what I heard this week about Shrewsbury players you wouldn't want a single one of them at your club however talented they are. They apparently went to a pub in a seedier area of Nottingham for their christmas do,arranged by a couple of former forest players without the say so from management and lets just say they enjoyed themselves. On the following saturday they lost 6-0.At a time when things are changing at Northampton Town FC, professionalism might not be a good starting point.

Sprinkler and Tag are one and the same. Their posts are written in a similar style and are within 5 mins of each other. And they both surfaced at the same time. Now he's developed a new character to back up what he's put for Sprinkler & Tag and called him rwilks97. Again notice the similar writing styles. The creator knows he needs to back his point up, but most regulars are putting him down, he knows he needs help to back up his points. I'd like to ask you, realslimmartinW, what is the name of the next character???

Regarding the purchase of 'new' players, omeone mentioned we might perhaps sign Shrewsburys Jemson - we absolutely should NOT do this - he is aging, overweight and often appears lazy - as the partner of a life-log Shrews fan (who is currently is total depression - so our own relegation isn't QUITE so bad, at least we are still in the league!) - I thought we were supposed to be being ambitious with our new signings, I hope we will not have to resort to scopping up these players who, whilst they have played at a high level inn the peak of their careers, no longer can offer the drive, skill and determination we will surely now need. If anyone will be plucked from the Shrews side it will surely be Luke Rogers, a skilled and very pacy frward (though his discipline both on and off the pitch have to be questioned). I look forward with hope to the new season, lets just give it a chance - it's pointless re-hashing all the terrible things that have happened to the club/supporters this season - we all know it - we have all exerienced it and come away form it with our own opinions, which are all valid - even though many disagreements are flying around. At the end of the day, we are still in the league and we have hope for a good new term - we are THE COBBLERS
Bit of balance..... at 09:10:03 Thursday May 1 2003
...why do people on this board just take the element of facts that suit their argument. For example, yes John Frain has been a consumate professional for the club & yes his 97' goal did mark one of our greatest days BUT the c;ub building for the future choose not to give a contract to an injury prone(not conjecture but fact), aging, slowing player. He certainly goes with my thanks & respect, but players do reach the end of contracts and are not resigned, particularly when we are rebuilding (as we clearly have to). It seems sprinkler & the like are simply using Frainy as a pawn to try and illustrate another poor decision by Wilko - strangely enough I suspect the guy can't win - had he retained Frain, then you can almost hear the words "Great clubman, Frain but only a crap manager would retain an injury prone, 30 something, slowing defender to build a promotion side"...........................

Right new gameshow ive just thought of. We put the entire team in a jungle and each day we vote 1 out until there is no one left. The fun being when r voted out ur contract is terminated and when there is none left we can start rebuilding. Oh include all management staff to

Martin Luther Wilkinson at 00:17:25 Thursday May 1 2003
I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the Cobblers dream.
I have a dream that one day this club will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all players are created equal."
I have a dream that one day on the cobbled stones of Northampton top class players from the upper reaches of the Football League will be able to sit down together at with the squad we already have around a table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state Northamptonshire, sweltering with the heat of failure and depression , will be transformed into an oasis of passing football and attacking flair.
I have a dream that my players will one day play on a pitch where they will not be judged by the their workrate, goalscoring ability and skill rating but by the colour of their shirt.
I have a dream today.
I have a dream that one day Northampton Town Football Club, whose chairman's lips are presently dripping with the words of we will give the manager as much help as he can, will be transformed into a situation where little players from Division One and Two will be able to join hands with the present encumbents and play as a side that will be a force to be reckoned with.
I have a dream today.
I have a dream that one day every away game will be an exaltation to the game of football, every corner kick shall be made low, the long ball will remain, the defence will remain crooked, and the glory of John Frain will be snubbed and cast aside like a leper.
This is our hope. This is the faith with which I take the management . With this faith hewn out of having won two matches out of 13 with the Cobblers, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith of having a career that shows 22 wins out of 90 matches in charge of three clubs, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our club into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to the West Stand together, to stand up for freedom of expression, knowing that we will be a Conference side, sorry, First Division side one day.
This will be the day when all of Cobblers fans will be able to sing with a new meaning, "My club tis of thee, sweet Sixfields, of thee I sing. Stadium where loan signings died, land of the Cobblers’ pride, from every mountainside, let the sound of defeat, sorry, victory ring."
And if Northampton Town is to be a great club this must become true. So let the long ball, sorry entertaining football be seen on the grass of Sixfields. Let incisive tactics be the key to winning matches. Let Hull reject Lawrie Dudfield be our new saviour.
But not only that; let Richard Hill keep well away from team selection.
Let us take our place proudly in the Third Division while Rushden are in the Second. .
When we let my gameplan work, when we instil it into every player, every reserve team member and youth squad player, we will be able to speed up that day when all our club will be able to join up with clubs such as Forest Green, Farnborough and Shrewsbury and will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old football fan chant:"We’re shit and we know we are, we’re shit and we know we are…”
MCHammer at 00:09:22 Thursday May 1 2003
Sprinkler, while I understand why yourself and some others have the position on Wilko that you do you've got to realise that I don't think the bulk of fans do "in their heart of hearts" believe what you say. People like yourself keep claiming this but don't really have the numbers to back up this point. The negative posts only stand out because you guys are the most vocal but I would say on this site and the official one you are in the minority. From my point of view it's realism not blind loyalty. I believe we have a good PARTNERSHIP in charge now. I think Hill and Wilko will balance each others weaknesses and toghether they will be succesfull. If Wilko was in sole charge then yes I would have my doubts but at the moment I'm quite happy to see what happens and feel quite positive.
