Cobblers Comments
OCTOBER 2002
TCMP at 22:30:02 Thursday October 31 2002
Kettcobb if we get enough volunteers then we can put someone on the hill, by the stairs etc. We moved away from a simple bucket collection because we thought it would have a limited effect, the car park donation at least is based on recieving a service, even if it is one that you can get for free, however on top of the £6,500 plus that we have collected from car park donations we have also raised over £5000 in straight forward donations this has all gone to the club and our first target which we are half way towards meeting is to match the £25,000 put in by the other four directors, but we won't stop there so please keep giving if you can. I know some say what's the point, or I wan't to see the books, but I am being as honest as I can in giving fans all the info and the reality is if we don't reach the target then the club really could go under, so don't leave it until its too late, if you have given, then thankyou if you havn't then please do and if you can't give cash then come and help us raise the funds by volunteering, we really would appreciate it.
KettCobb at 19:43:46 Thursday October 31 2002
Can the Trusts collections not have people standing on the pathway on the hill and on the steps down to the stadium? Purely because only a percentage o the crowd actually use the car parks therefore dont get a chance to donate! I still say Bucket collections would bring in a fair whack.
Big Roy at 18:19:49 Thursday October 31 2002
TCMP. I can help with the big gate. I'm quite strong and should be able to lift it. Where do you want it hanging?
Bazza at 16:03:17 Thursday October 31 2002
9224, I reckon most people who use this board don't read anyone else's comments, they just post their own.
9224 at 15:16:40 Thursday October 31 2002
TCMP - we appreciate your answers and honesty, please don't let fools like me who don't seem to read questions and their subsequent answers put you off. Has the club given any thought to having some presence in the town centre? Even it's only selling a few tickets from the Chron's shop on the market square it would surely make some difference?
Bazza at 14:52:51 Thursday October 31 2002
Perhaps we should offer concessions to unemployed Diamonds supporters, they might get frightened when we make a noise though.
TCMP at 14:27:39 Thursday October 31 2002
Whilst we are talking about the car park scheme can I appeal for volunteers on Saturday. We are expecting a big gate and the more volunteers we have the more entrances we can cover and the quicker we can get everyone in. Meet at 1.15pm outside the club shop. Those interested can contact vince on his mobile 07790 714089 or by e-mailing him at Vsmith1cramond@aol.com We would welcome you on board
scrapheap challenge at 14:15:41 Thursday October 31 2002
Perhaps now Max has thrown half of Wellingborough and Rushden on the unemployment scrapheap, the cost of attending Nene Park will not be one of their top priorities? Strange when he can afford to sponsor West Ham and yet think so little of those who support his beloved diamonds.
Dan at 14:09:13 Thursday October 31 2002
DR4E - I recently attended the Diamonds v Southend match at Nene Park. I brought a hot dog before the game, the dozy tart forgot about me and I had to ask again - 10 mins (including queing time) At half time I went for a pint. After watching us queing for 5 mins the a couple of stewards finally got round to telling us that they won't be serving at half time. Finally it took 45 mins to exit the car park, I can get out of Sixfields in 10 mins max.
TCMP at 14:00:54 Thursday October 31 2002
Bazza, Tom Barry is still keeping in touch out of courtesy, but I believe the board has now learnt it's lesson and will only look at offers that are on the table, rubber stamped, ink on the cheque dry etc. Mal I should point out that there are some in the West Stand that give more than their £2 but you are right in saying some chose not to give, but then as it is a voluntary scheme we are not in a position to chase them, One person who shall remain nameless even gave us a cheque for £2 made out to the football club so the money did not go through the trust, but we simply added it to the cheque we had written and still recieved shares for his kind donation.
Bazza at 14:00:38 Thursday October 31 2002
Is it true that you can only get chinese food and drink at Nene Park now?
Mal at 13:53:12 Thursday October 31 2002
Interesting Stats from TCMP about the car parking. Especially the one about the West Car Park. This is where a hell of a lot of so called fans, who are on Complimentary Match tickets park, thus they are not paying for the match and not paying for the parking. They obviously don't care about the Cobblers and just want the jolly at the clubs expense.

DR4E at 13:17:44 Thursday October 31 2002
I think you will also find the 70s revival thing has been and gone already. Although judging by the amount of long haired people walking around in Northampton, maybe they haven't caught up yet. Get yer hair cut!
DR4E at 13:14:51 Thursday October 31 2002
Maybe the directors should have a look at how things are organised at Nene Park. You don't have to queue, you can get a decent pie and pint at the ground and parking is easy. I think you have all the resources there, you are just not using them properly. But it's the same at many other clubs.
Bazza at 13:09:44 Thursday October 31 2002
TCMP, Thanks for feedback. Nothing has been heard of, Tom Barry during current crisis. What's his position now?
TCMP at 12:22:07 Thursday October 31 2002
again Bazza it's not the simple, it depends on how many kids/pensioners/students are regular attenders and would simply pay less and reduce the income? In general the kid a quid type scheme is more about raising the gate and getting adults to come along with them and thus sell aticket we normally would not have sold, and in addition hope they enjoy it and come back. The problem is whenever we have a kid a quid game we seem to not perform. Which probably means Saturdays all ticket game will be a scorcher. Bloke with a twitch, I would have thought the 70's throwback atmosphere would have had students flocking to Sixfields in their droves!! 9224 the question you ask about the £54,000 was asked yesterday by LH 13:20 and the answer lies below.
George - Bucks No1 Cobbler at 12:19:30 Thursday October 31 2002
A few points. Did the guy who bought whe Sam Parkin shirt for £56 realise that you dont get Parkin as well? For £56 I would expect his shirt, Parkin himslef and a piece of paper to say hes signed on a 4 year deal. I went to UCN and remember there not being much concessions etc. Football is just about the game its the build up to0 - how many times do u go to football just for that? What about yer pint, prog and burger (im not counting those idiots who buy a pie 5 mins before half-day (had my rant of them b4). Lastly I went into the club shop to buy the 'official' 100 years of cobblers history. Only to be told that we they didnt stock it. They told me to try Weston favell or maybe a bookshop in Town. Come on Commercial dept - sort it out.
Bazza at 12:17:43 Thursday October 31 2002
AND ANOTHER THING, It surely can't have escaped the notice of the club that a lot of young men play football on Saturday afternoons. I plated throughout my teenage years and it would would have been longer if not for a severe knee injury, I played on Saturdays. I only ever went to Fri nights and week games. There must be thousands of potential supporters out there who can't get to games 'cos they're playing. Do other areas run so many Saturday leagues? I can't imagine many Liverpudlians or Geordies turning out to play when their teams are at home.
TCMP at 12:13:18 Thursday October 31 2002
I am afraid it doesn't work out like that Bazza, first of all a lot of those attending will may not arrive by car and or have parked there car elsewhere, each car usually has a least 2 sometimes 3/4 occupants. the donation is £2 and if we take £1200 a game as average for a 5000 crowd it means we have recieved donations from 600 vehicles which probably carry 1800 fans. Those collecting have also discovered some intersting patterns for instance the south car park is probably the easiest to collect from as away fans expect to pay for car parking anyway, the next most fruitful is the North car park although some drivers go to extraordinary lengths to avoid coughing up the £2 (ie going in the exit to avoid the collecters) and the hardest buck to earn is in the West car park where most cars drive straight through and we can only collect if we chase them and that would defeat the "voluntary donation" aspect of the scheme. However we have still so far collected over £6000 and are aiming to collect at least £20,000 from the scheme before we finish. hope this explains it a bit better.
Bazza at 12:09:01 Thursday October 31 2002
I think that if concession prices were reduced that attendances and therefore takings would increase. Surely the cost of putting on a game is about the same whatever the attendance. If kids, pensioners, students etc. all got in for a fiver and a family ticket for 2 adults and 2 kids for the West Stand was say, £20, wouldn't that increase revenue?
Dyl at 12:05:55 Thursday October 31 2002
Aah the DJ's. Can someone throw away their f*****g Flock of Seagulls record. If they are sponsored by HMV how come they always play the same stuff?
9224 at 12:04:23 Thursday October 31 2002
Has the £54,000 from the recently-signed ITV highlights deal been included in the recent SOS total?
Bloke with a twitch at 12:00:29 Thursday October 31 2002
One fact has NOT been addressed. The matchday experience is awful. For a casual fan, double queueing for ticket & entrance. The worst P.A. system (except when in the bogs), poor "70's throwback" dj's & music, an unintelligable announcer, refreshment facilities that would struggle for a reserve match, and thats before you even get to your seat. Then of course there's the fayre served up on the pitch.....................
9224 at 11:52:43 Thursday October 31 2002
Student price at Rovers is about £6 to stand on the Blackthorn End, and about £8 to sit in the main stand. It's still two quid less, (which would doubtless be spent by a student on a pint) and has the pyschological effect of being less than a tenner
Bazza at 11:48:07 Thursday October 31 2002
My 17 year old still gets concession price if when buying tickets I mention that he is still at school, I'm sure this applies to students.
DYL, The Trust figures for car park donations etc sound good until you analyse them. It works out at about 25p per fan per game. There are a lot of people who regularly attend games who have given nothing.
anon at 11:46:32 Thursday October 31 2002
I think they might see it differently don't you, after all we play a game once every two weeks and only use them on the way there and on the way out if we havn't had something to eat or drink in the ground. They might get more custom from the cinema or the Ten Pin Bowling or probably just through the drive in customers
Anon at 11:36:39 Thursday October 31 2002
are places such as chevies, burger king etc doing anything, as im guessing that a lot of their profits comes because of us. if not then that is just wrong
Anon at 11:32:44 Thursday October 31 2002
we should advertise at the college more. i dont know if they do or not, but there must be loads of people there whod like to watch football but dont know how much etc it is at sixfields
TCMP at 11:32:06 Thursday October 31 2002
The problem with that Dyl is that A) it would be double accounting as we already have a target to increase the commercial income within the budget, and B) it would give a false impression. The barometer will start to rise over the next few weeks as fund raising initiatives start to take hold. For instance Gary McManus has asked all his pubs to compete against each other to raise the most for the appeal, if they all set a target of say £5,000 or £10,000 then that will boost the coffers no end. In addition the Trust next week launch their Money Box scheme for town centre shops and pubs throughout the county that money will probably start coming in in December, so the strategy has been to ask the core support for help first off and people have given to a degree but perhaps not as much as people would have expected, and then to go out to a wider audience. Lets hope it works.
TCMP at 11:25:57 Thursday October 31 2002
9224, there is a certain irony to your comment re speed cameras as those who are caught are now offered the chance of attending (and paying for)a speed workshop instead of collecting a fine and 3 points on their licence, and guess where the speed workshops are held? you got it... Sixfields. At the minute the money for hire goes to Eurest and to the council but if NTFC bid for and win the contract to manage the stadium next year then we will get money from speed cameras!! I will check the position re students but I think Kettcobb is right in saying we already give a concession and half price at Bristol Rovers is not much different to the £10 we charge, Perhaps we should start a "Cobblers Supporters Society" at UCN and give the ABBA appreciation society a run for their money?
Dyl at 11:21:15 Thursday October 31 2002
I'm a bit concerned that the SOS appeal is not gaining any momentum and has taken ages to even raise 60k from fans. However, perhaps the club could factor in increased sales through the shop. I for one have bought an away shirt, coat, cuddly clarence and Tommy Fowler book since the appeal started but wouldn't have otherwise. This is over £100 spent and must be at least £30 to £40 quid profit they would otherwise not have had. A sum added on to the total would give everyone a boost cos at the moment it doens't look like we are going to get near the 500k total and in which case it is hard to see people parting with much more.
9224 at 00:05:43 Thursday October 31 2002
You're right Kettcobb, I can get a concession with an NUS card, but it's still ten quid! You're probably correct about Northampton buses as well. Sorry about posting twice - didn't show up upon 'refreshing'. Here's an idea, to make up for all the lost overtime pay if we disappear, perhaps the Police could donate a week's speed camera takings! That would pay off all the debts mentioned by TCMP and then some probably. (Could we have the sets of three points as well?)
KettCobb at 20:43:00 Wednesday October 30 2002
Also another quick point, can u really see Northampton buses handing out free bus tickets!!!
KettCobb at 20:41:27 Wednesday October 30 2002
Im pretty sure Students can get in as concessions if they show their NUS card. ANd lets also point out that Northampton is hardly a bustling Uni Town, where as Bristol has a massive Uni,compared to our Half Uni!
9224 at 20:01:14 Wednesday October 30 2002
TCMP, how come there's no incentive for students? At Bristol Rovers they charge a one-off £5 and let you have half-price admission - as well as giving you vouchers for free bus travel. Is this a missed opportunity by NTFC?
9224 at 19:58:26 Wednesday October 30 2002
TCMP, how come there is no attempt to entice students into the ground? I'm currently at Bristol Uni where Rovers ask for a one-off £5 to join, and then you get a 50% discount. In addition you get free bus vouchers. How come we don't run a similar incentive to Nene College?
TCMP at 19:04:51 Wednesday October 30 2002
good points MK although its not always about pace. I am still playing at 15 stone and at the age of 39, and Lawrie Mac who manages the parliamentary squad is forever telling us it is about being able to keep your shape (on the pitch, off it mine went years ago!!)and to go forward as a unit. He tells us we should move as three units defence midfield and attack as if we were each joined by a piece of string. moving together covering for each other and ensuring players have options open to them to play a short ball. When we are not listening he shouts at us "string, string I said string not fu*&ing elastic" at times I feel like shouting the same down to our lads on the pitch Pace is needed as cover in the back four CC provides that and as the spark in attack DA and hopefully Stamp when he is back will do the same. By the way great to see Franchise FC get a record low 849 crowd last night and that included, 229 Rotherham Fans 220 complimentary tickets, counting every season ticket holder whether or not they were there and also adding in the press who turned up en masse as they wanted to see a record low crowd (they nearly defeated the object) and next week they take on Rotherham again in the Worthington Cup and they can't count in the season tickets!! great night for football in general even if it was a bit of a dampener for us at Oldham
MK Cobbler at 18:41:24 Wednesday October 30 2002
TCMP - referring to your comments on the team I identify 2 main problems, first a lack of pace generally and especially we are slow in the centre at the back and, second, midfield is not functioning as a unit as demonstrated by the lack of goals.
MK Cobbler at 18:26:16 Wednesday October 30 2002
Just to add to Rob Dunkley's comments on seat sponsorship I posted the following question on the Official Site on 28 October to which the club has not responded:
"Looking at Oldham's official site ahead of tomorrow's game I read a club release praising local businesses for the "phenomenal" response to Oldham's sponsor a seat scheme. Mention was made of several companies sponsoring 10 and 25 seats respectively. It seems to me that although anyone is welcome to sponsor a seat the target market has been the individual supporter and I wonder if the club should focus on local businesses. You never know the likes of Barclaycard might cough up but in reality there must be plenty of smaller businesses willing to sponsor 10+ seats."
Not again!! at 17:56:45 Wednesday October 30 2002
Found this on the guardian website, funny I can't remember all of the board holding that view at the time? God help us if he is serious about "not giving up" I suppose he is waiting in the wings hoping that the SOS appeal fails. If so I think I will put in another tenner, anyone else join me?.......... "But it is no longer only villains that Di Stefano wants to save. He also - and this is where it starts getting very weird - wants to rescue some of Britain's lower league football teams, most recently bidding to take over Northampton Town in the summer (pulling out only when the entire board threatened to resign in protest). Though he confesses to zero interest in or knowledge of football, he says he hasn't yet given up the fight for Northampton. And now he also says he wants to save the people of Bedford, running as their MEP in the 2004 European elections."
Anon at 17:32:22 Wednesday October 30 2002
yeah, us on saturday :-( UNLESS we play the ball on the deck. NO MORE HOOFBALL
TCMP at 17:10:32 Wednesday October 30 2002
Macc, yes all suggestions are considered, I believe the club is currently offering a discount off of next years season ticket for those who make a donation to the SOS appeal (check the official site for details www.ntfc.co.uk )I think people are right about getting right behind the team we are not far off being a good side if only we can believe in ourselves a bit more and put in that little bit extra. So many times over the last few weeks we have allowed poorer teams to close us down, and have sat back and let them come at us. As well as moving the ball when we have it, we need to be more decisive in winning both first and second ball and driving teams back on to the backfoot. Perhaps someone soon might be on the recieving end of a thumping?
marco at 16:49:52 Wednesday October 30 2002
anyone feeling nostalgic for the "glory days" of Wembley could head down to Moor Green. Their latest signing is Garry Hughes, joining Cobblers "legends" Dean Peer and John Gayle....
LH at 16:03:44 Wednesday October 30 2002
I salute a loyal (and now single) supporter.
RICHARD at 15:50:17 Wednesday October 30 2002
On a whim ( I live in Sussex, was meeting a client in London, decided to
drive on to Sixfields, picked up the coach for Oldham, forgot to tell the
wife, divorce pending etc......) I was lucky enough to catch what turned out
to be an entertaining match ( for a Latics or neutral). First time to
Boundary Park, which was quite impressive in an oldy groundy kind of way and,
despite only 5,500 turning up, gave off quite an atmosphere ( or was that
the Pukka Pies?).
Echoing earlier comments from Cobbs and Oldham fans, for the first 30 mins we
were more than a match for them. Their goal, probably from their first clear
effort on target, could have caused heads to drop but we persevered,
creating some bright spells of play, using the ball on the ground more than
we cynics have been accustomed to.
Of course Carlo not only had to score but he also picked up MotM too! Watch
out Saturday for Steve, Steve, Steve How-ard !
Despite the apparent complete twatting we received on/in the paper, the lads
thoroughly deserved the standing ovation they received (probably took some of
them by surprise!) from the faithful 200 or so. They responded in kind,
walking to the away end and applauding. And if the supporters can only get
behind the team from now on this sort of performance will have to bear fruit
eventually.
Anyway, arrived home at 3 am, tripped over the dog, woke the whole household,
slept on the sofa, received increased demand from wife for alimony/damages.
Macc Cobblers at 15:18:30 Wednesday October 30 2002
I appreciate the prompt reply.
A number of supporters have proposed different schemes which have the effect of easing the current cash flow problems, but maybe at the cost of postponing the issue to a later date - for example, pay £250 now towards the cost of a season ticket, and pay the balance in May/June.
Are the Club giving serious consideration to such schemes.
Henry Kilpin at 15:01:30 Wednesday October 30 2002
Last night was disappointing but Oldham are a good team and it was away. The lads need some praise for getting results during this time with all the take over talk. hope the situation is soon sorted. Good luck Cobblers
TCMP at 14:26:00 Wednesday October 30 2002
Macc, I dont want to set alarm bells off by publically declaring the exact amount, but needless to say the figure is higher than the £500,000 SOS appeal but much lower than you have heard bandied about. And as I have said before there are different categories of creditor. these can be summed up as follows 1)Inland Revenue *must pay or they will take the money anyway* 2)Day to Day Creditors *must pay or we will get no services, coach travel printers etc* 3) Historic Debt-including PFA loans, Scarborough etc *must come to an agreement for repayment* 4)Loans,(including friends and directors) *must come to an agreement over repayment and hope that they will bear with us until we sort out the rest* Oh I almost forgot in addition to the above we still have to pay the wages and keep going on a day to day basis.
Rob Dunkley at 14:25:56 Wednesday October 30 2002
TCMP. Apparantly we were unlucky at Oldham! Looking at other clubs I am concerned that our seat sponsor scheme is flawed. All other clubs charge £10 minimum and Bury and Lincoln have sold each thousands of seats. I for one would pay £10, but not £25 for a seat, and you will get the odd other fans donating money eg from other teams.
LH at 14:11:50 Wednesday October 30 2002
TCMP. Thanks for prompt answer .
Macc Cobblers at 14:09:38 Wednesday October 30 2002
What is the value of our total debt. I have heard an amount of £2 million being bandied out - but have no idea if this is an accurate figure.
TCMP at 14:01:45 Wednesday October 30 2002
LH, There are "other sums" that will come in some expected others not. We have learnt not to count our chickens. The general view is that we need to raise £500,000 over and above anything else that happens. That way if we do fall short of the target then perhaps we can scrape by. We may get a one off payment from the football league alongside other clubs, but again until it is in the bank then we wont count it. The other issue is when large sums come in it is tempting to just write a cheque for the same amount to reduce the Inland Revnue bill or pay off a creditor. The £500,000 will keep the club alive and kicking but if we raised £1m we could still spend it on paying back loans to individuals who have helped us out when we needed them. All outstanding creditors are proritised, once we get beyond the £500,000 mark it becomes a bit easier as the money is owed to friends of the club, but all debts need paying. So the answer to your question is... ? We know its coming, It will help out a bit, but we still need to raise the £500,000 and its best if we don't count it in as the £500,000 is additional fundraising.
Anon at 13:45:19 Wednesday October 30 2002

LH at 13:20:30 Wednesday October 30 2002
TCMP. I belive that 2 nd Division Clubs will be receiving over 50K
as part of the highlights / Digital liquidation deal . Is this considered as unbudgeted / windfall income by the club and wiull it be put towards the SOS appeal ?
TCMP at 11:30:18 Wednesday October 30 2002
Looking at last nights result it makes me feel glad that I was stuck in London, whilst I never expected us to do anything other than scrape a draw against Oldham, to lose 4-0 is depressing. Anyway, (George Bucks)sorry for the delay in responding, the answer to you question is that all money both that from the SOS appeal and any that may come in from a cup run is being spent as we recieve it to pay off creditors and loans. I think the easiest way to answer this one is to say if (and it is an if) we raise the £500,000 then we will have prevented the club sliding back into administration. Before the SOS money we simply slid further into debt. As I have said before we have started to take action to reduce the clubs outgoings (particularly players wages) and commercial income is up. The simple answer to if we use any cup run money to pay off the debts then why do we need the SOS appeal is that we have no right to, or any guarantee of having a cup run. For the last 3 years we have thought "oh well, a good cup run or the sale of a player will balance the books" and look what has happenned. The question about ONE is again pretty straight forward. Within KB's playing budget is a sum for loans, as long as he stays within that then it already budgetted for. The only danger is if we get a lot of late season injuries and are not safe and have to bring in fresh faces when the budget may be spent. Hope this helps. Bottom Filler, this is a football board, if you want my opinion on the decline of corperate capitalism, and the role of the UK in a global market economy then do what everyone else has to do, ring my office and book an appointment. But as a now ex customer one thing I would say to Max is that I always wear Northamptonshire made shoes as they lead the world in the quality field, if I wanted my footwear produced in a far east sweatshop by children who should be in school then I would walk around in Nike trainers. So no more DM's for me, and I hope the rest of the customer base fell the same way. regards Tony

No 1 Cobbler. Re CC, Broadhurst indicated that he was giving him a rest. I suppose he has a point as the lad is 19. But, now he has had a breather he should start against Luton.
I agree that Asa should start on the right wing, he causes all sorts of problems and it is pointless saying he does not offer anything defensively as MulletMcGregor does not either.
Rickers IS NOT a winger, he was excellent at right back. I feel he would be okay in central midfield, but his role is similar to Trollopes so it is likely he will be on the bench.
Agreed on Morison, from what I heard he was good against Wycombe and having seen cameo moments he has some pace, and is a giant amongst our tiny strike force.
LH at 10:43:16 Wednesday October 30 2002
Carruthers is only 19 still and so has to be rested at some time .
He's going to be worth bugger all to us knackered / injured or with no
confidence. So if you accept that you have to rest him from his best position at full back you need to replace him with somebody else.
Natural choice in Speddings abscence is Frain. Frain didnt miss all the chances last night did he ? Also playing Asamoah on right wing against Ayres ? Dont think so ! He might have been more creative than Rickers but Ayres would of had the freedom to put those pinpoint crosses in all night . Would of hurt us more than we would of gained at the other end. I also bet that Rickers was the most motivated player on the pitch going back to his old Club. So on paper KB's team selection seemed logical at the start of the game , all we seemed to miss was a goal at the right time .

The only William Shaw I can see is the one who played for us in the late 20s - born 1902 in Durham. This the one?
No1 Cobbler at 09:56:24 Wednesday October 30 2002
Looking at other peoples comments I thought I would have my say. I was wondering why Broadhurst insists on playing Rickers. I haven't seen him have one good game yet why not play Asamoah in his role. And on the other side why did he play Frain and not Carruthers. In my opinion Carruthers has been the best player by far and of copurse with him being born and bred in Northamptonshire he is the only one who's heart is in it. His and Hargreaves link up play on the left is a must for Broadhurst. Also why not start with Morrison. (On the positive note at least Greg Lincoln finally got on the pitch).

There is an old saying in football "he who scores goals wins games”. This is very true for the Cobblers, we cannot score goals, and it is as simple as that.

its easy for those of us who didn't go last night to criticise and berate KB's statements, but sorting the wheat from the chaff below, the doom and gloom has come from those who didn't go - the only poster on here who went (Macc Cobblers) tells a similar story to Broadhurst's comments, yes a 4-0 defeat is extremely disheartening but some of the comments are also extremely disheartening.

Only been to see a few of our beloved team this season for obvious reasons. Living in Edinburgh. But it is very sad to see our slide.
And from what i have seen we have real defensive problems. I was amazed to see the failure of experience defenders like Sammo and Burgess fail to mark a man for much of the Notts County game - which we were lucky to get a point out of. I don't know whether they are covering for others, or what. But all it needs is proper defensive organisation and they are good enough to shut out most attackers in the Second. Not a big Trollope fan. Likes to get involved but not seen anything that makes me think that he is an improvement on Hunty.
I thought it would be funny to see us play Oxford Utd next season with their midfield of ex Cobblers - Hunt, Savage and Hunter - but the way we are going we willbe swapping places. Still its early days. If Broads can just get the defenders to do simple things like cover a man instead of ball watching, we might be able to keep the scoresheet blank. And then give bloody Asamoah a start - what has he got to do - and we might just be able to drag ourselves out the mire. I should say though, I think Trollope is a bit of a disaster. Sorry. Lots of square passing and not very aggressive. Not impressed. If we are short of a defender or two, we should go for Lee Wilkie of Dundee, the Scottish international. Reminds me of a Rio Ferdinand who can defend, dribble into the penalty box, is comfortable on the ball and he dont cost £20m. It's £19m to us!! Well I can but dream. COME ON COBBLERS!!
KettCobb at 23:27:36 Tuesday October 29 2002
Broads,i believe,is a good manager. But i think he is cracking up a bit,why o why o why does he not start with Asamoah???! And also why does he masturbate over John Frain, altho granted he played well on sat,and also Trollope, who has yet to have a fully decent game for us?!

Macc Cobblers at 22:49:06 Tuesday October 29 2002
Well, tonight proved that football is a cruel, cruel game - we, at times, played Oldham off the park.
Turning points were at 1-0, Trollope had a great chance to score from a poor clearance from their keeper, and effectively "passed" it back to him - Oldham went to the other end and scored to make it 2-0.
Even at 2-0 I thought we still had a chance, then the referree capped a "fine" evening by missing a penalty for a foul on Asamoah, and Oldham duly went up the other end and got their penalty, and so instead of 2-1 we were facing 3-0.
The majority of the players gave their all, it was only towards the end that we started to get exposed at the back when we were pushing forward.
A great reception for Greg Lincoln when he came on !
On the downside another totally ineffective game from Trollope - and Harper though he could not be faulted for any of the goals was out of sorts again.

GREG LINCOLN is being allowed to readjust to the pace of league football before playing for the first team. That's what someone said that KB said. I hear that the cricket club made a loss last year, perhaps we could ground share with them to save money. We could have a footie stadium with 3 sides and put a temporary stand on the other side, the cricketers could use the pitch as a car park when the Cobblers weren't using it.

Mr Broadhurst - please sort our midfield out, they need to be more dedicated to controlling the play giving support to the attackers and cover to the defenders who are constantly under attack.
The defence needs more time to settle itself after and attack and the midfield need to give them more time to recover their positions - Good luck TB

9224 at 10:08:17 Tuesday October 29 2002
This criticism of John Frain is completely unfounded. OK he's slow, but he has, as they say, 'a footballing brain, and the 'first few yards are in his head'. His distribution is better when he plays with confidence, as is everyone's. At left-back his positional awareness is second-to-none, and, as KB alluded to, he never 'gets done' one-on-one despite his lack of pace. In midfield, he's a battler. Tough as bloody nails for a little guy and not afraid to mix it with players physically far larger than he is. Perhaps not the best captain, but an inspirational figure (as well as being the Greatest Englishman who ever lived) and our squad would be all the poorer were he not in it!

I'm not a Frain fan, but he's a Cobbler and we need to be behind him, not on his back. However, I was worried by the fact that as the slowest member of the squad, he comfortably kept up with the pace of the rest of the defence.

some of our fans judge whether a player has had a good game or not by how far he has run in the match and how fast he ran it, sometimes i think our managers have done this too

Agreed, John Frain did well and was about the only Cobblers player who made some decent passes. He may not be the quickest player on the pitch but he can pass the ball. It seems that many fans criticise certain players for so long that they fail to see when they have a decent game. Unfortunately saturdays poor performance was due to the majority of the team having no idea what they and the others were doing - waht do these people do in training all week???
not a frain fan but.............. at 19:55:09 Monday October 28 2002
I dont think u can call frains return on saturday a direct link between a loss of form, after all we lost our games prior to him being re-called. Personally I thought frain was one of the few pluses on saturday, apart from giving the ball away once I thought he did quite well, and Im not a huge fan of his!
Anon at 18:58:28 Monday October 28 2002
It's a plain and simple fact that whenever Frain returns to the squad over the last couple of seasons, the form slumps. His distribution is woeful especially from set plays and that's reason enough to not play him. On another subject, given the furore over di Stefano and his dubious if unproven links to individuals of doubtful standing, can we assume that there will be a similar furore over at Nene Park, now that Griggs has teamed up with a nation with arguably the worst human rights record in the world? Or perhaps that's giving their fans too much credit on the intellect front.

On Saturday, I got to the ground early, bought my son an away shirt and a mini kit from the club shop. For the second home game running, I couldn't buy an SOS mug as they had run out. Surely, if they are serious about raising this money, the commercial department should get its act together, or does P***-ups in brewery's spring to mind. Unfortunately I was so depressed at having spent so much money in the shop and for a seat at the game just to watch, lets face it, the worst display of the season, that I left the bag under my seat as we came out. To their great credit, someone picked them up and handed them into the club shop. Whoever that was I say, THANK YOU for doing that, and THANK YOU for restoring my faith in the human race. I always knew Cobblers fans where the best in the land, its just a pity the team is crap.

It's amazing how well R&D have done with squad consisiting entirely of chinese shoe workers. They train 5 nights a week after working 15 hour shifts making DM boots, then have to make their own way to weekend matches, usually on foot and then get back to start a Monday morning shift at 5 am. It's even harder when they have matches in the week. The supporters are great too, most of them work with the players in the factory and have the same difficuties getting to matches. I think it's fantastic that even with their limited knowledge of English and bearing in mind that most of them are illiterate peasants that they can still manage to communicate with us Cobblers fans on our website. None of them had been to a match until that nice Mr. Griggs came along and rescued them from their insignificant and mundane exsistance, this explains why the crowds are so quiet at Nene Park, it's 'cos they don't know whats happening, but as Chairman Mao once said, 'The longest journey starts with a single step.'

I sat in the East Stand for a change on Sat & thought Frain did ok.
it was interesting to notice that he was allways talking to Carruthers & others & organising & encouraging . I felt that although CC has the confidence & ability to run at players by doing it all the time he became predictable. I hope he isn't believing his own press , what used to impress me was that he used to do the simple things well at the right time and for a young player choose the right option.
Agree with other posters though , we lacked desire & creativity .
Rickers has dissapointed me . I remember him playing for Oldham and he was a crafty , quick footed mid-field player . I think he would struggle to hold his place if Super Mac was fit. I never thought I'd be saying that !
United Front at 10:39:25 Monday October 28 2002
I'm getting sick and tired of everyone criticizing John Frain, who I thought was one of our better players on Saturday. He only made one obvious mistake when he lost possession on the half-way line and they had a dangerous attack, but apart from that he covered well, made some crucial interventions and looked to play the ball into the channels for Forrester. Some of our fans are so boringly predictable regarding their "favourites" and their "boo boys", can anyone tell me what Chris Hargreaves has done this season? He has been one of the major disappointments when you consider his undoubted ability, yet someone like Rickers who tries to make up for his lack of talent with commitment gets booed when he is having a bad game.
Anon at 09:59:46 Monday October 28 2002
Well what a bloody shambles. The team had no invention in it. And KB is the latest in the long line of Cobblers Managers who puts John Frain straight back into the team as soon as he's recovered from injury. We had Frain on the left hoofing the ball to no mans land, Rickers on the right, erm, hoofing the ball to no mans land. A half arsed Hargreaves and Trollope in midfield, Burgess & Sammo tripping over each other, Gabbi & Forrester chasing aimless punts. When we won the ball we gave the thing straight back. The whole starting line up (except CC) was lifeless. The players were static. The two players who have the bollocks to control the ball and get it on the floor, run at players and look to make things work were sitting behind Broardhurst for over an hour. When Del and Harsley were on the game changed. Please Broardhurst, put Harsley at least back in the starting line up.

Yesterdays serving was appauling. If the club is to survive, then bums on seats is the only answer. If we continue to defend 0-0 at home against the bottom team, we'll be lucky to see 4000 turn up after christmas. Save our season by giving us something to watch - please
A Childs View at 16:30:19 Sunday October 27 2002
Not been on for a while, very busy and not really inclined to spend any more time thinking about my team than I have to. One question - KB plays 433 at Notts Cty with Jamie, Marco and Asa up front and then, at home to the bottom club in the league, he reverts to 442 and plays Burgess and Frain at full back (no support to the midfield or forwards at all from them, not mobile enough) with Rickers and CC (2 other defenders in midfield) - we therefore had 6 defenders on the pitch starting against Cheltenham. Surely we should have started with the team that finished - 433 with a midfield of Hargreaves, Trollope and Harsley and the Jamie, Asa and Gabbs up front. CC is better at left back and is actually more effective going forward when he can come from deeper positions. Also - Asa had scored 3 in 3 games before the Cheltenham match - what else can he do to get a starting place? Also, what has Harsley done wrong? He's quick and keeps the ball moving through the midfield - definitely worth his place in our team. Crap tactics KB - you cost us yesterday. This season is gonna be a struggle for survival again. Only bright spot, I'm away for 5 weeks over Xmas so will miss a load of games, my poor mother will have to endure our performances with my season ticket. At least Notts County was entertaining and crap, yesterday was just plain crap.

It's pretty interesting, I think Broadhurst made a mistake with not playing Derek, Jamie and Marco from the start like we did against Hereford. Apparently he was worried about a second division club being better at attacking and we might get caught out! Well, I would look at it the other way around, perhaps attacking against a team like Cheltnham would be a better option. Christ, anything would have been better than the shite on offer!

Cheltenham, must feel very satisfied with a job well done.
going down !!!!!!!!!! at 23:01:32 Saturday October 26 2002
Well today i sat in a different seat to my normal one,and was full of anticipation, thinking well its surely three points in the bag,we are playing Cheltenham......bottom of the league. Then i remembered my trips to Chesterfield, and Swindon and the Cobblers other defeats against "lesser" mortals.I had that horrible feeling when everything unfolded.... they played without any guts or passion. The club have the cheek to ask us to "save their season" and tell us to bring along a friend,if for one would be embarrassed to bring along anyone, friend or foe to watch such a display of non-commitment. That seat may well be vacant next Saturday.
Anon at 22:11:39 Saturday October 26 2002
hey I didn't know TC was now PM - when did Tony Blair resign???? why don't you piss off bottom filler trying to stir things up - the Dr Marten's thing isn't anywhere near TCMP's constituency - perhaps you should ask Paul Stinchcombe, member for Wellingborough (I assume his constituency vovers Direones) - or is that too difficult for you?
Bottom filler at 22:03:47 Saturday October 26 2002

Hotel Ender at 19:11:42 Saturday October 26 2002
No pride, no passion, no guts ..... no wonder we lost. Paul Rickers - a waste of space. I suppose Broadhurst had to play him as a defensive midfielder because we didn't have a recognised right back. Sammo's lost it I'm afraid. However, how was their first goal allowed to stand?, one of their players was in an offside position right in fron of Harper - surely distracting the keeper, therefore interfering with play. We looked better after Harsley and Asamoah came on, but Gabbi seems to be going nowhere again.

Many thanks to all who made a donation before today's match with Cheltenham. The total collected was £1293.61 (plus 125 pesatas!!!) including £110 from the sale of Car Stickers. The total now raised from the scheme is around £6900 including £221 from the sale of Car stickers.

Awful performance today and I was disappointed with KB's tactics and after-match comments where he was more upbeat about the game than the other 5300 who saw it. It was his fault today, fancy leving Harsley on the bench for so long when he is always our most creative player. Come on KB, sort it out. Tactically naiive today.

So Max going to China is no different, we should all be concerned as that lot amounts to quite a few jobs in and around the Town. Extrapolate that across the country and we really will have a problem soon.

Police have asked traders to stop selling eggs to youngsters after a spate of egg-throwing attacks on cars and homes. Some shop owners will no longer sell eggs to children without a letter from their parents.
Chief Insp Mike Colbourne, of Wellingborough police, said: "Around Halloween last year there were a large number of incidents of children throwing eggs and already this year we have had a number of similar reports.
"We don't want to stop youngsters having fun. However throwing eggs at people, houses and vehicles is extremely anti-social and can cause a lot of upset and inconvenience.
"Eggs thrown at property could be classed as criminal damage or even assault if the eggs are thrown at somebody.
"I am now asking shopkeepers to be aware of children trying to buy eggs and avoid selling them to youngsters if at all possible."
He said officers were paying visits to a number of stores to advise them against serving children eggs.
Pauline Tregidga, of the One-Stop Shop in Brambleside, Kettering, said: "We have had trouble in previous year with egg throwing.
"In the end we had to stop selling eggs to kids unless they had a letter from their parents with them."

THE Northamptonshire firm behind the world-famous Dr Martens boots announced today it was closing all production in the UK and moving to China with the loss of more than 1,000 jobs. R Griggs Group revealed it would begin a 90-day consultation process with its 700-strong workforce in Wollaston and Irthlingborough.
Operations in Leicestershire and Somerset will also be closed with production of the iconic footwear being contracted out to its two factories in China, where production costs are far lower than in the UK. David Suddens, R Griggs' group managing director, said: "We regret very much the loss of jobs resulting from these proposed closures, but we will make every effort to help staff find alternative employment.
"We will also work closely with the local authorities and other agencies.
"It is an especially difficult announcement to make given all the effort that our staff have put in over the past few years.
"Dr Martens will remain a brand true to its heritage and deliver footwear of the highest quality.
"This announcement will ensure the company has the necessary flexibility to enable it to compete in the global footwear market on design, quality, speed of delivery, range of styles and price.
"The offshore strategy is the first step in moving the company and the brand forward in a positive direction."
R Griggs Group the parent company of Dr Martens has been associated with
Northamptonshire since it was founded in 1960.
The boots are one of the most recognisable brand names in the UK and sell in excess of five million pairs each year.
The announcement is the latest blow to manufacturing in Northamptonshire after Timken closed it Duston factory, ending its 60-year association in Northampton, and moving operations to eastern Europe.
Avon Cosmetics has also decided to move part of its production to Poland, where, like China, manufacturing costs are a fraction of those in the European Union.
One Griggs' employee told the Chronicle & Echo today: "They've been making the redundancies every once in a while for the past few years.
"People have had their suspicions about this for some time. We knew something was up when they brought round a delegation of Chinese people. They said they were new customers but no-one believed them. It's the latest blow for the local shoe industry."

Thanks for the answer TCMP. But can you claify some points. Will the money gained from any cup run (and related win bonus money for reaching further rounds), go dircetly into the SOS pot? If not then where is this money going? If it to pay off loans etc then what was used before this extra cash? If it is used to pay off loans etc then what is the use of the SOS appeal? And what is the money for the SOS appeal going towards? Finally will the money from not paying One also go to the SOS appeal? If not then what is the money being used for? Sorry If I sound thick TCMP - im not I have a degree from UCN (or Nene College when I started(and Im working towards my MA too)).

TCMP at 17:26:21 Wednesday October 23 2002
George, any money gained through any cup run will be a bonus. The SOS campaign is to fill a £500,000 gap in this years operating cost's after the ITV digital fiasco and recognising the need to pay creditors and stay within the overdraft. So you should look at the SOS appeal as money that will keep the club afloat and in the league. If we have a good FA cup run we could earn a lot more and be in a stronger position than simply getting by, So no any additional income wont weaken our resolve to chase the £500,000 target. (in fact with gates down so far this year we could argue that more was needed) and all money recieved is spent immediately to reduce our liabilities rather than us simply stashing it away for a rainy day. The fact of the matter is that it is already raining, in fact it is P**$**g it down and the fans and the public at large who give to the campaign are our only shelter. Hope this helps you out. regards Tony

If there were some mouthy Town fans there, it would have gone off.
Hotel Ender at 13:54:35 Wednesday October 23 2002
I would doubt if much (if any) profit will be made from the LDV Trophy unless we get to the regional final and the final itself. But given the club never tells the fans the full story about anything, I doubt if George will get any answers. The club seem to view its fans as mere money suppliers.
George - Bucks No1 Cobbler at 13:30:25 Wednesday October 23 2002
A Quick(ish) question? Now that we have made round 2 of the LDV trophy, we will use the profits from that game and any subsequent other (should we progress further) to help the SOS appeal? Surely we could not rely on the money for future rounds as we dont know if we would get through. Will be the board be that prudent? Ditto the FA Cup. Finally we will use the money that we are not paying One for the SOS appeal? Can anyone supply an answer?

Thought it was a great game last night, spoiled by the ref and his linesmen. Your equaliser followed a freekick which was given for an offside, even though we had no players in your half at the time!!!
Penalty given after your striker over hit the ball and stopped running, causing our defender to run into the back of him. The keeper already had the ball at this time but the ref still gave the pen.
Good game though - nice to see chrissy hargreaves back!

So no bothers to give a post match review any more? Nornally 'A Childs View' gives his opinion along the others. Who played well who didnt? did the 'new' system work? Does anyone know why One left? Apart from him being naff in the air, slow, cumbersum and giving out about 30-40% effort every time - he could control a ball very well. I check the 'Official (Gareth Wiltshire) Site every week day and seemed to miss that news - strange huh.

Anon - you have misread the article. It says that the FA and Premier League are prepared to bale out the Football league and suggests that 1st Division clubs are to get 70% of whatever figure. If it is £15 million each first division club will receive £437,500 with the rest of the pie split beween Divs 2 & 3. If Div 2 received £3m that would be £130,434 for each club. Great if it happens but still leaves us a long way to go to reach £500,000. So no letting up with the efforst and dig deep because it will us fans who do it.

A report in todays Observer says that the FA are going to give/donate/loan approx £437k to each club in the lower divisions. If this is true then its great news for the Cobblers.

LH, Yeah, I think it was.
r u talking about john frain thats not the one i know at 15:05:16 Friday October 18 2002
his positional play & passing are generally good enough to make up for it. he also still delivers a good dead ball

I think I remember that was it late in the game ?
Bazza at 14:43:41 Friday October 18 2002
LH, yeah, I remember Frain scoring from a free kick once.
LH at 14:35:02 Friday October 18 2002
Bazza , I believe Frain played a full 90 for the stiffs on wednesday.
Although slow in comparison to others his positional play & passing are generally good enough to make up for it.I bet he also still delivers a good dead ball. Too many passengers last week ,I believe Broadhurst should shake it up a bit .
Bazza at 14:25:18 Friday October 18 2002
LH, Frain at left back? Is he fit then? You're right about Sammo but Hope always makes me nervous, I like your midfield and it would be nice to see Jamie back if he's recovered his form. We've got One for another month though so I can't see him not playing some part.

I guessed wrong last week about Abbey keeping his place but it looks like changes are a foot this week. My predictions: Frain in at left back Carruthers into left midfield. Hargreaves into the middle . Rickers dropped & Harsley takes his place wide right . Forrester to replace One. Also another long shot , I think Samson has looked off form the last few weeks , to be replaced by Hope ? Your comments pls could I be right or too many changes in one go ?
Bazza at 13:37:15 Friday October 18 2002
ANON, Alan Smith committed a foul, a second bookable offence, dangerous play. What has that to do with offside? Players have been booked in the tunnel or on the bench, your point is irrelevant.

Bazza at 10:13:12 Friday October 18 2002
DANNY, I agree, England were crap, the point that I was making was that the referree's assistant, who is a FIFA official, does not know the offside law.
Danny at 10:05:09 Friday October 18 2002
If memory serves me correctly, Barwell wanted to buy Sixfields, move the Saints there and let "the football team play there now and again, but give priority to the Rugby club" And Bazza, at the end of the day, England couldn't beat a team that would struggle in Division 3, regardless of whether Vassell was offside or not, we should have hammered them. We shouldn't be arguing if that goal had stood we'd have beat Macedonia 3-2!!!! The tactics were wrong, we had FOUR players in midfield who could pick up a ball, take players on, make 40 yard passes, change games in the premier league etc etc, but bypassed all that creativity by thumping the ball to Owen & Smith up front. There were huge gaps in Macedonia's defence but we didn't exploit them, despite having players who clearly can.
Mac McCormack's Magic Sponge at 09:42:02 Friday October 18 2002
Good idea, but I think Barwell is already funding Saints out of his own pocket, and losing money (his choice because for him it is a passion thing). I can't see him wanting to lose even more money supporting something he has no real passion for. I take the point that there would be cost savings due to shared amenities and services, but still if you want to do football 'properly' these days it will cost a lot of wonga.
Bazza at 08:41:14 Friday October 18 2002
FIFA RULES, thanks for that, so basically, I was right. I don't remember Barwell being interested in The Cobblers but if so, why noy approach him now. I know a lot of people don't like the idea but it makes a lot of sense to merge The Cobblers and The Saints and share admin, training facilities and yes, share a ground!
Anon at 23:11:18 Thursday October 17 2002
What you say realist is absolutely correct and the same thing has happened at Rdfc, where they have become more than just a football club offering many other attractions to the local community. The Cobblers desperately need someone at the helm who is commited to the club and ideally owns the ground. Owned assets are important to the right person, asking someone to pump money into just a team will never attract a person for the long term
FIFA rules at 21:26:09 Thursday October 17 2002
Bazza "A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the
opinion of the referee, involved in active play by interfering with play or interfering with an opponent or gaining an advantage by being in that position"
Mrs Goggins at 21:12:40 Thursday October 17 2002
ATTRACT A BARWELL TYPE!!?? We did, Barwell wanted to buy the club but the blinkered, short-sighted, class concious nonces on this board all decried it. It would have been an ideal colaboration.
Cobbler in the West at 21:02:14 Thursday October 17 2002
Realist, I live a long way from Sixfields and I have never been to the Saints so if you can expand on what is better there from the supporters' perspective and what the Cobblers could do better, allowing for financial restrictions, that would help.
Bazza at 19:54:20 Thursday October 17 2002
Last night M. Owen esq. was dissallowed a goal for offside. He wasn't offside, Vassell was. As I understand the present interpretation of the offside rule, you are only offside if involved in the play at the time. Vassell was in an offside position but not involved in the play, not distracting any defenders or the goalkeeper. In other words, Owen would have scored even if Vassell had stayed onside, therefore, under the laws of the game, the assistant should have kept his flag down until Vassell became involved or had an influence on the move. Neither of which happened. Are there any refs or rulebook anoraks out there who have veiw on this one? Good result for Wales, did Paul T. get on?
Realist at 18:52:43 Thursday October 17 2002
I can assure anyone who reads this that i am a die hard cobbs fan, BUT after watching the dire display we put on last saturday and listening to the poor vocal support ( what do you expect) that transpired and listening to all the desperate pleading for cash it struck me that we have a seemingly impossible hill to climb. We all want to help but can we honestly see just the supporters raising this amount in time? We ask if local business can help but the real truth is they are already helping a town side that goes by the name of the Saints! I had the opportunity to go and watch ( free i may add) the game against Ulster on Sunday and to see what is happening down the road it just reinforces how our board and marketing people are NOT in the same league as the egg chasers, the support is excellent the facilities excellent the community feeling that surrounded the whole stadium was enough to make me feel quite sad and despondant at our future. The only glimmer of faint hope is that we can attract a Barwell type in time . You have to admire the way he has sold the rugby to the town and ran it as a business to see that perhaps it could happen to us. Obviously we will keep plugging away because no fight means no club and maybe someone is waiting in the wings to pluck us from oblivion at the eleventh hour at a knock down price, lets just hope there is!. We all know that the current board have done their best but they have also let a few gift horses go by when a bit more thought would have been the order of the day. AS i said before, lets keep up the fight but lets not get blinkered by the stark facts that if we dont get some serious help financially and follow that up with decent business brains i fear that we will be no more this time next year, AND THAT I CANT BEGIN TO IMAGINE.

Anon at 23:01:20 Wednesday October 16 2002
So you think there was 4 divisions 100 years ago do you Wurzul.
s.b.c. at 22:35:05 Wednesday October 16 2002
See Richardson given boot by desperate Derby, surly worth tapping up for a few bob.
Bazza at 19:35:46 Wednesday October 16 2002
How about Fat Charlie Spencer giving The Cobblers a few quid? His family have been exploiting the locals for generations to make their fortune and now he's exploiting the memory of his dead sister to rake in about £5,000,000 a year. Still he probably doesn't even know that the town has a football team.
Anon at 19:27:18 Wednesday October 16 2002
Only a division higher after more than 100years, well done.
Bazza at 19:26:02 Wednesday October 16 2002
HOTEL ENDER, again, I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure the old Diamonds ground was called, yes, you've guessed it, Nene Park.
KettCobb at 18:51:15 Wednesday October 16 2002
Wouldn't suprise me if it was Max Griggs, after all deep down he is a Cobbler.
claret and white at 18:28:45 Wednesday October 16 2002
well good on max griggs - I have my doubts but i suppose it could be true. I have nothing against Griggs anyway.
One Eye and Peg Leg at 12:48:24 Wednesday October 16 2002
I also have it on good authority that when the Cobblers sold Turley to diamonds that he could only see out of one eye!! and had to have an operation to fix it (good scouting Brian) and that Razor bless his cooton saocks had already been told his playing days were numbered because of his knee. Diamonds? they ought to call them the Pirates!!
anonymous at 10:38:17 Wednesday October 16 2002
I have it on good authority it IS Max Griggs sponsoring the goals.
Well how about that then!?
Anon at 09:47:34 Wednesday October 16 2002
Three promotions in ten years with £130,000 spent on Turley, £100,000 in Warburtons sky rocket, £180,000 on Justin Jackson (who after 2 weeks in division 3 Talbot said he's just a good Non league player), £250,000 on Onandi Lowe + the extortionate wage he's being paid, Paul Hall isn't far behind etc etc etc. All that and it took you 10 years to get three promotions and sit third in the Bankrupt League Division 3. In that 10 years we've clawed ourselves from the brink of bankrupcy, been Wembley twice with a team of free transfers and Jason White (£35,000), went straight up from Div 3 with a team that possibly cost £50,000 to put together. At the moment we are a mid table second division club with a team that cost no more than £275,000 to put together.
Pig sick at 07:37:56 Wednesday October 16 2002
i love men and boys tooooo
Anon at 02:14:38 Wednesday October 16 2002
Cobblers - two Wembley appearances, 2 promotions and still a division higher.
Pig sick at 00:29:23 Wednesday October 16 2002
Diamonds fans were probably at the county ground in 1992 but then got pissed off watching the crap football that was being served up in that season when they came bottom of the league and should have been relegated to the conference. No doubt they thought 'Diamonds' now there's a side worth watching, a club with good facilities and ambition, So it has proved to be, three promotions in 10years, and currently riding high. Now aint that sickening for a tormented Wobbler fan?
Ben. E. Factor. at 00:13:47 Wednesday October 16 2002
It could be.
Anon at 00:08:08 Wednesday October 16 2002
local buisnessman who is giving a grand for the goals wouldnt be griggs would it?
Hotel Ender at 20:30:03 Tuesday October 15 2002
Bazza - yes you are right - it was on the same site - I remember seeing Cobblers in a pre-season friendly there a few years back. Can't remember what the ground was called though - perhaps Mark TRB can remember?
Bazza at 19:16:26 Tuesday October 15 2002
I may be wrong but I remember the old Irthlingborough Diamonds ground being on the same site as the new one. Probably most R&D fans had never been to any game before they saw a bandwagon to jump on.
school boy in claret at 18:42:16 Tuesday October 15 2002
Oh look a mature rubish and dimones fan!!!!!!!!!!!
the real deadline for the MONEY is NOT 31st of January it is later on in the season......apparently that is just the clubs comfort zone!!!!!
Ray at 15:52:34 Tuesday October 15 2002
I suspect they will delivery it to where you want - all you have to do is pay.
Direones fan at 13:48:34 Tuesday October 15 2002
Where's Hayden Road? and Nene Park has only been there since 1992!!!
Anon at 13:47:31 Tuesday October 15 2002
Where were the Direone fans watching football prior to 1992. Hayden Road or Nene Park?
LH at 13:43:16 Tuesday October 15 2002
Make a change from Pies for Marco !
Nosey Parker at 11:58:28 Tuesday October 15 2002

Anon at 11:36:41 Tuesday October 15 2002
Very mature diamonds fan there. Obviously wagging off school
KettCobb at 00:02:25 Tuesday October 15 2002
I quite like the statement "doesnt even go to games!" Im sad enough to keep all my tickets,so i have proof my dear Rushden friend,u seem a very intelligent chap by the way. What you gonna do without Talbot eh? Back to the Conference?
Anon at 23:55:12 Monday October 14 2002
faggot boy is back. i thought your rivals were the mighty kettering? why you trying to start one up with us? I'd like it for us to play you in one of the cups. lets see how much you jabba on then.
Paul at 23:50:49 Monday October 14 2002
Wow, and I thought Cobblers fans were childish sometimes when they complain about the Direones. Please forgive me, it's clear the Rubish ones have some serious issues with wanting to be seen to be better than us.

"Am i the only one who thinks we should send Armand One back to Cambridge, especially after his performance on saturday,an absolute joke he was."
What a dickhead statement from somebody who doesn't even go to games

Nine men, we only need nine men.....
KettCobb at 15:15:34 Monday October 14 2002
Im not listening to speculation about someone buying us etc as its usually bollox anyways,no1 has bought us up to now so why should some1 suddenly decide its a good idea? Good to see our youth team creating a nice rivalry with Rubbish and Direones already,a 1-1 draw but we get 2 men sent off ;-)
Bazza at 13:37:38 Monday October 14 2002
As for the Spedding offence, I don't even remember him being booked.

mylo at 13:30:19 Monday October 14 2002
local paper Bazza. Evans is a lifelong bullshitter so it could be a load of rubbish. He was recently up before the beak for his fourth sppeding offence of the year and his plea to the magistrate was that taking away his licence would harm his chances of employment by a consortium who are looking to take over a Nationwide League club. Trust me - I am not making it up.
United Front at 13:24:29 Monday October 14 2002
If such a consortium did take over the club, wouldn't this mean the end for KB, who would be replaced a certain egotistical Scotsman? How do people feel about this? On the one hand it would solve our money problems, on the other we lose a talented, young enthusiastic Manager and replace him with a cheat.
Bazza at 13:19:33 Monday October 14 2002
Yeah, and I've heard that Saddam, Gadaffi and Bin Laden are forming a consortium to buy us.
mylo at 13:15:09 Monday October 14 2002
Accirding to the back of our local rag in Peterborough, former Boston mmanager and FA corruption charge defendant Steve Evans has been linked with a consortium to buy your club. Your fiasco with GDS gave me plenty to chuckle about but believe me, Evans is bad news and I wouldn't wish his type on any club.

Good morning Wobbs.
I find it hard to believe that our small contribution to your SOS appeal has caused so much fuss I understand it found its way onto your official site and the Chronicle? I'm even going on Northampton Radio Monday at 11.45am to say a few words--"its the nene not the NEN"
It really aint no big deal its not as if we've collected £1000's for you;~)
I would like to clarify that we are not holding a street bucket collection for you prior to the Mansfield game it was always our intention to ask our members to donate any loose change when they left the Pisa2000 clubhouse for the match this afternoon.
Not going into exact details but with the 12 kick off this has now become impossible.
Over the last week though we have been busy on your behalf I run a small business and have told reps I will not see them unless they donate a quid to the Cobbs SOS, we went round Town last night and collected for you though being told where you can "stick your fooking bucket" 50 times does dampen your enthusiasm so we borrowed a Sally Army uniform and hey presto those 2p's came hurtling into the buckets.
We hope our small donation helps you achieve you aims and if we as Posh fans can do it YOU can too.
Who do we make the cheque payable to and where do we send it?

Soon having a good season will not be about league possitions but if you,ve paid your debts and survived, i can see some well run small clubs picking up good players and going from the 3rd to the 1st and staying there, with big fish in big stadia rotting in the 3rd trying to stay alive and survive.
KettCobb at 22:44:2 Friday October 11 2002
Id honestly hate to see any football club go out of business,so id certainly help save Posh or Diamonds,no matter how much i hate them.Look at all the clubs in financial strife, its times like these when the football supporters of lower league teams have got to pull together and i totally respect the Boro fans for holding a collection for us. If fans say they wont help out etc and wouldnt give money then they aint worth it,they aint true football fans in my eyes.

Howard Wilkinson goes into the bank just as an armed robbery is taking place and is knocked out. On coming round he says,'Where am I?' 'It's ok sir' says a member of staff, 'You're in The Nationwide.'
'The Nationwide?' says Howard,'You mean it's May already?.'

One and Marco were standing in the shower after training one day when Marco remarks on the length of Armand's dick. 'Well my mother used to hang weights on it when I were a lad.' he says. 'I'll try that.' says Marco. A few days later Marco sees One and says, 'Armand I think it's working!' 'Yeah, is it getting longer?' 'No' says Marco,'but it is going black.'

I think that its at times like this you find out who the true football fan is. If the roles were reversed and either R&D or Pish were in similar dire straits - I'd like to think that the majority of true fans would dip their hands in their pockets.

rushden at 19:42:7 Friday October 11 2002
every rushden fan i have spoken too wants the cobblers (and kettering by the way) to survive. I haven't seen one message from an R & D fan hoping you go bust. If there has been i apologise as i think that's disgusting. And yes, we would do a collection for you. Its already being discussed - however would you do one for us?? As the guy below admitted his hatred for us is "irrational"
Anon at 18:47:56 Friday October 11 2002
Voice of the Nock - what are you on about??? Griggsy has been giving us Cobblers free cash for ages (Spilly Turdley £130,000 etc.). This could be construed as a gift of £129,999.50 if you take into account what he is worth. Thanks Max.
NTFC@2view at 18:37:41 Friday October 11 2002
This board was more interesting when it was closed. At least there was speculation over whether it might open again. Now I wish it hadn't.
Voice of the 'Nock at 17:12:16 Friday October 11 2002
Has anyone asked if Rushden would be prepared to collect for the Cobblers? I doubt it. I think you'd be surprised at how many RDFC fans want you to keep going. Would you put money in a bucket for RDFC if the roles were reversed? I think some would, most would not, as below. Don't expect Griggs to contribute, however. He already did in his tenure on the Board at NTFC. Not many of you would know but he left his own money in the club and wrote off the thousands that were owed to him.
The Cobbler at 16:33:50 Friday October 11 2002
I'd put money into a bucket to try to help Pish stay alive as whats football without teams and the rivalry and atmosphere at Cobbs v Posh matches is cracking. BUT I have an irrational hatred for Ru$hden & Direones. I really really do hate them. I hate their jumped up fans and I'd rather listen to Fergie than Talbots monotone voice. Its possibly the one lower division team I wouldn't put money into a bucket for.
BR at 14:49:43 Friday October 11 2002
It’s been said before but clubs like ourselves are owned by the fans. I don’t mean financially but in our hearts and souls. There are no members of management or players that were here 10 years ago (I bet somebody will immediately prove me wrong but hey ho!) but there are guys sitting in the stands who have supported this club for over 60 years. There is a core of us (and I’m being generous here) of about 4000, who have the heritage in our keeping at the moment. We inherited it from our parents and it is a precious and fragile thing. I, like many others am in the process of passing that on to the next generation. I include the Directors in this core support. They are in a position to offer more financial support than most of us but are still fans first and foremost. Why am I waffling on about this? I believe it is in this aspect that we are fundamentally different from R & D. This is why it does not surprise me that Posh will support our campaign. I think we would and probably will reciprocate when they need help. They like us and many other established clubs understand the root soul of football. The fans. I’ll stand and yell the odds at the opposing terrace with the rest but when the chips are down I don’t want to see any honest club go to the wall. So well done Posh. R & D supporters should prove themselves worthy of being in the same league by offering support rather than inane, cheap sideswipes at fellow struggling clubs.
Mr Posh at 14:21:12 Friday October 11 2002
I wouldn't expect much in that bucket. I'll be giving a quid and asking for two quid change and my mate is on about chucking a box of matches in. All's fair in love and war and all that.
Mal at 13:44:8 Friday October 11 2002
Has this become an R&D site? All this stupid bickering about whose the biggest and who's the best. If only DR4E and his other mates who seem to like the Cobblers and the banter on here more than their own site, would only take a leaf out of (dare I say it) the POSH Independent Supporters Club, who are going to hold a bucket collection on Saturday for the Cobblers SOS appeal. Yes, the Cobblers SOS appeal, even when they are not so well off themselves. Its times like this that you realise that people who are fanatics about their clubs are also fanatics for the good of football. Is DR4E going to donate his pocket money and the R&D supports going to try and help save our club?
There's only one Team in Northants at 12:5:41 Friday October 11 2002
DR4E. Grow up. Your just a glory supporter I bet you didn't support them when they were in Conference. If it wasn't for us a few years ago then you would be no one - Warburton, Turley and Heggs.

I'm sorry Wrexham lad but the atmosphere you describe at Nnce Park to me is not refreshing, it is significant of the way football appears to be going at the minute, and yes I include sixfields in this. No passion no singing no atmoshere and the one identifying reason has to be all-seater out of town - and out of the community they represent- stadia. If we had a vote on this page as to the favourite away ground of the year I'd like to stake high that Peterborough would win, two large opposing terraces, not far from City Centre and with a lot of character...
Wrexham lad at 23:14:41 Thursday October 10 2002
I'm a wrexham fan Kett cob and I thought the Nene park was OK. What I liked about it were the friendly supporters and lots of kids and families that were there although they were a bit quite when the game was on.Also the other thing there seemed to be no bad language being shouted about which I found quite unusual but nevertheless quite refreshing, perhaps they are setting new standards in which case all credit to them. Hope to see you again next season.
24ct at 22:29:26 Thursday October 10 2002
Rather than say Griggsy killed off Rushden town and Irthlingborouh Diamonds why not say Griggsy saved both clubs and brought better football to the area with gates now over 4000.coupled with great facilities providing many other functional uses other than football. Now doesn't that justify the decision made 10years ago? In anycase did Griggsy hold a pistol to the heads of both the Rushden and the Irthlingborough Diamonds boards at the time?
Ray at 21:57:39 Thursday October 10 2002
Its up to date isnt it?
RUSHDEN AND DIAMONDS at 21:41:29 Thursday October 10 2002
Killed of by maxi!!?? astonishing considering the vast majority of rushden town fans and I'borough town fans AGREED to the merger due to the "terminal decline"of both clubs. Don't even pretend there were big protests coz there wern't - 99% of fans WANTED the merger, O YES - did you lot have any problem with the merger when it was announced???? i doubt it very much; i doubt you even thought twice about it.
Bazza at 21:31:59 Thursday October 10 2002
If Stoke want a keen, successful, ambitious, young manager, what about that whatisname at Oxford? Direones chatrooms must be about as interesting as their team, they seem to spend all their time on this one.
Anon at 19:34:7 Thursday October 10 2002
Any Tipping Comp update Ray?
KettCobb at 19:26:14 Thursday October 10 2002
I was only speculating! I guess we would get compensated in some way or form, unless Broads were to quit and also not breach his contract. Im pretty sure he wont be picked by the Stoke board though, most likelt they will pop for someone famous id guess, maybe Peter Taylor? Joe Royle is still out and about isnt he,or did he retire from management? Ive always thought he was a class manager and cant understand why no1 has appointed him.
Anon at 17:24:19 Thursday October 10 2002
or even to save the club and bring in a decent manager. id rather have a good manager in place than another barnwell
9224 at 17:16:54 Thursday October 10 2002
If Broadhurst were to go to Stoke, would we be compensated as he's under contract? I, for one, believe it would have to be pretty bloody spectacular compensation for us to even consider it - enough to save the club and then take on another couple of players at the very least.
KettCobb at 17:4:23 Thursday October 10 2002
Sorry meant to add that as they have hardly any money they may look to make a similar appointment as last time and plump for a young up and coming manager.
KettCobb at 17:3:17 Thursday October 10 2002
Just a thought,Broadhurst for Stoke job? As its now free and they havent got hardly any money.
KettCobb at 16:29:6 Thursday October 10 2002
Another Diamonds point, someone mentioned they have everything most 3rd division teams hanker for,not all pal. I speak to a few Wrexham fans and they were highly unimpressed by Nene Park, they said it was modern etc and looked ok but it didnt have any kind o feel to it,they did however say they thought the actual team were quite good. I also put the question to them "where would you rather watch football,Sixfields or Nene Park" They replied "Sixfields coz then we would be back in the 2nd divison" shut me up eh.
KettCobb at 16:26:56 Thursday October 10 2002
Hey LH was this "pukka" source Jamie Oliver? ;-)
NTFC@2view at 15:57:5 Thursday October 10 2002
Hello, I am Boardwatch UK. I just got pissed off with the stupidity of people who claim to support my club. You are pathetic with a capital everything. So they(he) have spent millions? It was his money to spend. Now they have a ground - THEIR OWN - and a place in Div 3(4) where we have spent most of our 105 years. Shut up, you just demean yourselves and our club. It's like being jealous of your little sister because she has a new party dress. Do you really want to wear it?
LH at 15:29:33 Thursday October 10 2002
Personally I think KB will go for Abbey , it sends a message not the
whole squad that (injuries permitting) if you dont perform you dont play. I also hear from a pukka source that Premiership scouts trailing
Carruthers already . CC to leave when Premiership window opens again?
Saves NTFC bacon in process ?
PATTCOBB at 15:29:9 Thursday October 10 2002
And while I'm at it you weren't next to nothing you were NOTHING. Never mind the history of Irthlingborough Diamonds and Rushden Town, both these clubs were killed off by Maxi, who according to you had "next to nothing" to satrt with. Interesting because to me nothing does not mean millions of pounds which to be fair is what it has cost to put you where you are now, a mediocre THIRD DIVISION side with an outside chance of a play off spot.
PATTCOBB at 15:21:48 Thursday October 10 2002
Well "BOARDWATCH UK" would you mind pointing out to us all what "successful Nationwide League club" really means. Oh hang on yes I see you meant successful EX Nationwide CONFERENCE club you Diamonds "fans" should really learn to read and write. Trust us Cobbs its really quite enlightening, Now f*ck off to your own websites.
United Front at 14:47:39 Thursday October 10 2002
I agree with much of what has been said regarding the Harper or Abbey debate, but I feel that KB made his decision as to his number one choice at the start of the season - Harper - and I see no reason to change now. It is reassuring to know that we have competant back-up, and they are both a "good age", Abbey 24 and Harper 30ish.
Mac McCormack's Magic Sponge at 14:0:11 Thursday October 10 2002
Please try not to get too wound up about what is going on at Rushden & Diamonds. Sure, they have the kinds of facilities and resources that most clubs in the lower divisions hanker after, but why not instead be pleased that there is the challenge of another rival on our doorstep. What would football be, after all, without rivalry?
Macc Cobblers at 13:34:26 Thursday October 10 2002
I actually would go with Abbey as well.
It would obviously be diferent if we had a Welch vs Sollitt choice - or heaven forbid a Turley vs Sollitt choice
ANOTHER KETTCOBB at 13:25:24 Thursday October 10 2002
To all you smug R&D fans especially 'Rushden'. Diamonds wouldn't have touched you with a barge pole if they hadn't wanted your higher league position. I know for a fact a lot of Irthlingborough people hate the word Rushden, but they are stuck with it. With that merger Irthlingborough lost its identity because despite your 'success', still no-one outside the county has heard of it. And by the way WRITING IN CAPITOL LETTERS DOES NOT MAKE YOUR IDIOTIC RAMBLINGS ANY MORE CREDIBLE.
LH at 13:8:16 Thursday October 10 2002
Meanwhile back to the Football.... Who should play in Goal on Saturday
Abbey or Harper ? Personally I think Broadhurst should go with Abbey
else the motivation for both players to perform goes out of the window. If Abbey is dropped it proves that however well he plays he is not going to get a run in the team. If he does play he knows he has to be on top form to keep his place. Vice versa when Harper plays
again. Comments from R & D supporters also welcome as they seem to spend most of their time on this board.

BOARDWATCH UK plc at 11:37:50 Thursday October 10 2002
Hi! We're an independent organisation rating Websites across the UK. Congratulations!!!! The posters on this site have been judged to be the most puerile(childish) posters in the UK. To be so jealous of a club that has been built up from next-to-nothing to a successful Nationwide League club, without any Council handouts, would be hilarious if it wasn't truly pathetic. The Webmaster can send for the Badge of Shame to be exhibited on the site if he so wants. Grow up and the badge will be removed. Thank you.

HOT NEWS!!! (Maybe?) at 12:55:47 Tuesday October 8 2002
Roy Hunter hasn't been playing for Nuneaton Boro on Saturdays and due to sign For Oxford. He has been training with Oxford and has signed for Nuneaton Borough playing his first game for them live on Sky on Tues night (just gone).
Ray at 9:31:5 Thursday October 10 2002
Have you lot got nothing better to do than encourage the R&D lot?
rushden at 9:21:54 Thursday October 10 2002
O well done. You are very bright - you can take quotes out of context! that must take so much intelligence! NO REALLY IT MUST. A lot of our fans are plastics however we have some very true ones too. Point i was trying to make is the Club itself is NOT plastic.
well said at 0:22:46 Thursday October 10 2002
well said rushden you are doing all our work for us now "I don't care if we will always be non-league" "small club, much smaller than the cobblers" "glory hunters" "our fans are plastic" your doing a great job, but I wonder how many of your fellow plastic fans would agree with you? I hear they are all sodding of to MK at xmas anyway.
rushden at 23:54:8 Wednesday October 9 2002
i don't care if "we'll always be non league". We are a small club, much smaller than cobblers, yet i (along with most of our fans) are still proud of our club. We may be small but we DO have integrity as a club. I know we have many glory hunters but they are not the club. Although many of our fans are plastic the actual CLUB is not. I think my arguments below have reduced you to insults of the most monotonous kind.
Old Stratford Cobbler at 23:47:25 Wednesday October 9 2002
You'll always be Non-League.
rushden at 23:37:52 Wednesday October 9 2002
ooooooooooo poor effort indeed. VERY WEAK IN FACT.
"Refranchise" - when people talk of franchising they mean moving the club to different parts of the country. the distance from rushden to i'borough is 3 miles?? hardly anything. Besides we play at I'boroughs' old ground indeed. Just the practicalities of a very local merger. no distance involved. Face it, you don't knwo what you are talking about and are making a FOOL out of yourself. max Griggs is RESPECTED for what he has done for Rushden and Diamonds (COMMUNITY CLUB) whereas Charles koppel and norwegian bum chums are HATED for what they have done to Wimbledon (Severed all community links). Franchise is when you move to a new area and let that new area "buy" a league position (ie Wimbledon to MK) rushden and diamonds play in both old clubs original area and so no new areas benefited. YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE SO STOP SPROUTING YOUR BULLSHIT.
However i WILL GIVE YOU ANOTHER CHANCE to explain yourself. GO ON THEN!! O NO YOU CAN'T!!!. by the way do you have a problem with other small clubs that were formed by mergers (ie most of them) NO YOU IGNORAMUS
said Max at 23:27:42 Wednesday October 9 2002
"its not fair" said Max, "no one will listen to me in the big boys world of football" "what can I do?" "I know I will take two village sides and refranchise them" "I will move Rushden to Irthlingborough and hope that people in Wellingborough will come and watch us" "If they don't then I will spend tons of cash and pay for them to travel to away games so it looks as if they have some support" I will call them Franchise and Diamonds" "and as we are non-league no one can do anything about it" "in fact i bet in a few years money will talk even louder and others will follow my lead"
rushden at 23:0:10 Wednesday October 9 2002
Doughboys!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME ON THEN. EXPLAIN THE SIMILARIY BETWEEN FRANCHISE FC AND RUSHDEN AND DIAMONDS. GO ON THEN!!!!!
O NO YOU CAN'T!! REASON BEING _ LOADS OF CLUBS HAVE BEEN FORMED BY MERGERS WHEREAS MOVING A CLUB 70 MILES AROUND THE COUNTRY IS UNHEARD OF. IGNORANT TOSSER YOU ARE

Another quick point, how nice of the Peterboro fans to be holding a bucket collection for us before their next home game, shows football fans unite in hard times eh.
KettCobb at 20:47:16 Wednesday October 9 2002
Please kindly fuck off back to Rushden,we don't want you small fish here. At the moment we are the Number 1 club in Northants, and thats how i envisage it staying as Griggs himself has admitted Direones will never go above Div 2!
Progress clerk at 20:10:31 Wednesday October 9 2002
Now let me see what was your gate against Huddersfield and what was ours last Saturday against Orient? What also was our gate in August 1992, and what was yours? Somehow I think the gap is narrowing, and it is only now a matter of time before you will be overtaken like ships that pass in the night, and don't laugh because it was not so long ago when some silly buggers, came on here and said Diamonds would always be non league.Well, well, what a bloody suprise that must have been for you all when we won the league for the third time in 10years.
Nene Park at 19:18:34 Wednesday October 9 2002
But its not big enough to take the cobblers average gate? And where would we park with all those tractors taking up all the space? Plus they would not let us in on account of the fact that we have never had sex with any of our close relations. Nah I will stick to Sixfields, we may be skint but at least the clubs fans are not on the "at danger" register
I Love Max at 18:53:57 Wednesday October 9 2002
When your club ceases to exist,I want you all to know that you will be welcome at Nene Park.
doughboys at 18:48:24 Wednesday October 9 2002
I suppose at least when Rushden and Diamonds go tits up then thier part time/fair weather fans who sold the doughboys up the river nene will have nowhere else to go other than the Cobblers? When you take awy the away support it certainly looks as if the nene park attendances are dropping and dropping. Perhaps some of the R&D fans who visit this board because their own is shite will want to comment on why gates continue to fall lower, the higher up the table they climb? At this rate if they did get to div 1 they could end up with lower gates than their Franchise FC cousins at SelhurstPark/MKbowl
I Love Max at 18:43:56 Wednesday October 9 2002
Well its goodbye poppies, and your next!
I Love Max at 18:42:38 Wednesday October 9 2002
The reason Max gets so much stick from you is that he went on to successfully merge two local clubs who are now very likely, almost certainly within 3 years, to be the top club in Northants !! Jealousy is a horrid sin

If you can't see the difference between franchise fc and rushden and diamonds then words fail me.
However, you do seem to have very limited understanding.
And as for "unloved monster" - i don't know where you got that from.

Chairman Mow at 21:25:52 Tuesday October 8 2002
Your right, over the years Im sure Griggsy has managed to store a few bob under the bed, and with or without the bootCo he could still raise the readies to support the club. In anycase if Griggys made all his boots in China, and employed no workers at all just think how much more money he could save by having them made much cheaper with no factory overheads and employment costs to worry about, I wonder if he's ever thought about that?
Anon at 21:14:2 Tuesday October 8 2002
Max has stated publicly that he his no longer willing to inject funds into R&D for progressive purposes. He will inject funds only to sustain their status as an established league club and provide the cash to relieve the annual shortfall that ALL lower division clubs clubs suffer.Hence the recent television interview in which Brian Talbot publicly stated that he could not see R&D climing higher than division 2.

And while I'm on.... I don't suppose for a moment that any Dr Martens redundancies will have much, if any impact on Griggs's support of Rushden and Diamonds. The bloke obviously has managed to save himself a few bob over the years, so don't go wetting your pants with excitement because the boot trade aint what it used to be.
Knowledge is Power, Norman. at 20:28:3 Tuesday October 8 2002
If Griggs was responsible for Doughboys demise, he will be responsible for the Poppies demise, then the Cobblers. If only Cobblers had somebody like him on the Board. Oh hang on a minute, didn't they have him once? Fancy letting that one go!

B azza at 19:33:39 Tuesday October 8 2002
I've lived all my life (nearly 47 years before you ask) in the Wellingboruogh area and never went to watch the Doughboys, not even once. My dad and grandfather were also life-long Cobblers supporters and far as I'm aware, never watched a Doughboys game. The Cobblers have always had a large following in the Wellingborough area, probably as much as from Northampton. I think that the Direones are competing for the same supporters as we are, the comparative size of the two towns is irrelevant. I still think most Direones supporters are not the life long 'I've been a football fan, man and boy' type supporters but more the 'Let's go to a football match instead of shopping' types who don't really care if they win or lose as long as they have a nice day out. STOP PRESS: Gazza to be Exeter player, manager shock horror! Uri Geller, Micheal Jackson now Gazza! What Next?
Anon at 18:45:25 Tuesday October 8 2002
Hock and doe....you are entitled to your opinion, but when you start to live in the real world, you will realise that with a supporter base of 3000 there is no rosy future for the Diremonds. In fact, your future is as bright as everyone else in div 1 thru 3, particularly when Max comes to the point that there are no more boot-builders to make redundant to support his folly. Indeed, I think this has already happened, and you will soon learn to live with the odd crumb like an away fixture in the Worthington / FA Cup which you might fluke (unless you are playing Coventry...ha ha ha).
Scapegoat at 18:40:17 Tuesday October 8 2002
Can't see where Griggs can be responsible for the demise of doughboys, surely the demise of doughboys was due to those who did not support it. Just wonder how long it will be before someone else suggests Griggs is responsible for the demise of the cobblers.
Hock and doe at 18:21:17 Tuesday October 8 2002
I'm a Wellingborough Diamond and proud of it, That's my democratic choice, Bully boy tactics and critism of a superb club with a real future would never convince me to be different, even if my mates were cobblers supporters.

No, coming from Wellingborough you are allowed to follow the county side and hold a torch for the doughboys if they ever do well, but what others have done is dumbed down not looked up to the stars. So wellingborough cobbler you can rest easy, its the wellingborough direones who should hang there head in shame.

Doughboys at 12:33:2 Tuesday October 8 2002
Has any one ever linked the demise of the doughboys (Wellingborough Town) now out of business and the mercanary support of Rushden and Diamonds? Not only has Griggs created an unloved frankensteins monster in R & D, a club based on two small villages in East Northants and unable to sustain a league position and a support without continued cash input, but they have also killed off one of the origanal county sides. If there are any Diamonds fans reading this who live in Wellingborough then you ought to be ashamed of yourselves. If the club tha was formaly wimbledon are now Franchise FC then the diamonds ought to be Franchise FC reserves or its feeder club.
Mac McCormack's Magic Sponge at 9:38:37 Tuesday October 8 2002
Unfortunately people never do come out of the Cobblers with any sort of good feeling. Even in Dave Bowen's day there was a lot of antagonism. We seem to lack the feelgood factor that the oiks from the village club enjoy. Okay it could be the money in part but I think our malaise goes deeper than that.

Couldn't agree with you more 9224. The failure of the local business to come up with the goods is a disgrace,
9224 at 12:9:8 Saturday October 5 2002
I wonder if the club has made the point to local businesses about how much it would cost them NOT to help us? What we are talking about here is a one-off donation to guarantee business for the future. If places like The Sixfields Tavern, Chevys, Burger King and Avalon Print decide it doesn't matter to them whether the club lives or dies then their managers are short-sighted in the extreme. How full are these pubs midweek being, as they are, miles from anywhere? How much money a year does Avalon print make from our programmes? How many pints of Carlsberg are sold in and around the ground on a matchday? How often is the Burger King full there, with McDonalds being nearer the cinema? How many supporters buy petrol from BP or Sainsburys on Saturday because they are there? With no football they may have no reason to be at Sixfields and would buy petrol/do shopping elsewhere. It seems to me that we should be putting pressure on these estabishments, highlighting what exactly we bring to them, and how little there'd be without us!!

I agree United Front - KB's q & a's on the website were very sensible. I'm quite critical of KB from time to time, however, given the circumstances, I acknowledge that he's doing a good job overall - its just frustrating when things seem so obvious during a game - away to Chesterfield and the crazy formation are a good example. I liked Abbey's comments on the official site - very professional! It sounds as though One won't be signing from KB's comments - initial press release when he first joined said he was on a short term contract with a view to a permanent deal, now its described as a loan and KB intimates he's only here until Stampy is back. This is only right, the wage bill shouldn't be added to with the situation as it stands. Shame though, in flashes One looks like he's got something - he just needs good coaching to get fit and improve his consistency. He also needs to sort his attitude when the games not going his way - he disappeared against Mansfield and looked lazy. Anyone who plays knows that if you are having a bad game just concentrate on the simple things and play your way back in, don't try the fancy stuff. I don't know what to expect today, our away form is patchy and our general consistency all over the place - who knows what a trip to Home Park will bring? I've been to Plymouth once - its a weird place full of 80's fashions - they even have Goths still!!

Fecking quiet innit?
KettCobb at 15:50:9 Friday October 4 2002
I think we need someone who can thread a ball through a defence etc and make telling passes, hopefully Lincoln is the man for the job. I originally thought Harsley would have been but it doesnt seem that way,not knocking his performances as he has been good, but he isnt an out and out creative midfielder.
United Front at 14:20:2 Friday October 4 2002
KB said that Greg Lincoln was coming on very nicely in the reserves, and that it was never his intention to put him straight in, prefering instead to bring him on gradually and allow him to get used to being at a pro football club again, full time training etc. He said to expect big things from him in the next couple of months, stating that he had excellent potential and the ability to pick out a pass that we have been lacking in some departments.
NTFC@2view at 14:0:48 Friday October 4 2002
Thanks for that. Did Greg Lincoln get a mention? Strange that he's been here twice, nearly signed, then signed, but never played. I can't see how an Arsenal colleague of Ashley Cole can have gone so far back so soon.

Oh excellent lets have a party,Frain is back! Grrr i really really hate John Frain, sorry.
United Front at 12:19:36 Friday October 4 2002
Christ its a bit quiet in here! To get the ball rolling, I went to the trust meeting last night where Kevan Broadhurst answered questions about the team. Basically if anyone ever has any doubts about KB as Manager they should attend one of his Q+A sessions where they will be left with little doubt that we are lucky enough to have an intelligent, passionate, personable man in charge of the playing side of the club. A few things to come out of the meeting (that I can remember): the impression I got was that Kevan is disappointed with Jamie Forrester's attitude at the moment, unlike the approach of Gabbas and McGregor who are also coming to the end of their contracts. He was very upset by the performance against Mansfield where he said the defence backed off and the forwards failed to hold the ball up meaning that the pitch became massive. He said that he has rollocked the back four since Saturday, so expect a very high line at Plymouth. He spoke very highly about Chris Carruthers who he is sure will go on to be a very good player, and he hinted that he could get money for him now based on interest from a number of clubs. However he is very reluctant to lose him now, instead hoping that he will continue to develop and earn us even more in the future. McGregor is out for 4-6 weeks with a broken metatarsal, Lavin is out for 6 more weeks, and he doesn't know when Spedding will be fit again. Frain will be in the 17 for Plymouth, but unless anyone drops out he won't be in the 16.

I wonder if Edwina Currie would like to donate some of the takings from the sale of her diary to the SOS fund, or perhaps she knows an easier way to raise money? Let's get TCMP to ask her. Whny does everyone talk about wages when concerning players? it's as if they are on life long guaranted payments. It's much more important how long their contract is. If a player's contract ends at the end of the season and he's doing the business, then that's fine; but if it is for the next 2 or 3 years, then it should be viewed completely diferently. it doesn't make sense to convert a contract to a weekly wage. They aint on paye.

Who cares?

The Trust has raised about 4k from the car park and other donations from the last four home games. It sounds ok but if the average crowd is say 4500 and 4000 of these are home fans that means that the average donation per game is 25p. Are Cobblers fans really that apathetic?

I don't why you're all so worried, if Marco goes we can sign One.

Just quickly want to add that the replacements we got in were better than the old players we had!

Re the wages if you think that during the summer the major leavers were Welch, Hodge, Hunter, Hunt, Parkin and Sollitt - and their replacements were Trollope, Harper,Abbey, Harsley, Rickers and Stamp, I would have expected the club to have made substantial savings in the wage bill this season - especially if you also take into consideration the wage cuts that were imposed on Hargreaves and Sammo.

Re the Marco situation. KB has said he aint going nowhere. But Mr Hodder says the transfer will be done within 7 days, and the deal is 90% done. Its just a case of dotting the i's and crossing the T's. Although there may/ or may not be a an EGM which may or may not take 21 days in order for the transfer to be completeed

I have heard that Marco is on 3,500 per week, Burgess is on 3k, Forrester 1.2k don't know how true these are. Also Welch was on 3k and Hodge 3k.
So you can see how our wage bill will be cut come the end of the year when Marco, Forrester and Burgess are out of contract, also Frains will be up as well as Lavins and Marsh' I think so I would be surprised if we kept these all on, but it will give us a good 10k per week to play with when getting new players in.

I don't know if anyone can give me the truth regarding two of the biggest myths surrounding Gabbiadini. 1. How much is he on a week? (the rumours range from £2,500 to £5,000). 2. Are his wages paid (or have they ever been paid) by a local businessman?

How do you know this about Darlo and Marco, not on the official site.

Isnt a funny how some players we just dont seem to REALLY miss when they are out injured >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I for one, completely forgot that FRAIN still 'played' for us since he's been out for SOOOOO long!!! Kind of says something, wouldnt you agree???
Bazza at 8:55:0 Tuesday October 1 2002
I remember when Gabbi came to Sixfields it took him ages to find a house, move his family and generally settle in. Hasn't it been said that he wants to stay in the area and that he is settled here? I also wonder if anyone would have been that bothered about him going before the start of this season. If we get £500k for him all our troubles are over! Until next year.
KettCobb at 1:45:16 Tuesday October 1 2002
Reckon he was betting on a 0-0 draw?
