LIP-READING CLASSES

Lip-reading classes provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in which to learn, with other deaf and hard of hearing people.
Everybody learns at their own pace without pressure.
Learning to lip-read is a great way of building up your confidence and will help you to cope with some of those awkward situations.

How Lip-reading classes can help you!

By joining a Lip-reading Class you can:

  • Build up your lip-reading skills
  • Learn to recognise some speech movements
  • Anticipate what's coming next
  • Know how to make the best use of environmental conditions

About the tutors

Margaret, Chris and Jackie all have the 'Manchester Metropolitan University Certificate of Higher Education Teaching  Speech-reading to Adults' qualification, plus a number of other related qualification.  They also have a hearing loss themselves, enabling them to teach with empathy and understanding of what it is like not to be able to hear.  They are able to draw upon their own experiences to both teach and encourage good communication skills within the classes.
