Ever Ready Portable - Model 'C/A' 1947

I picked this set up from NVCF (National Vintage Communications Fair) at Birmingham. It is a 4 valve battery portable and the line-up is: DF33, 1A7GT/G , 1H5GT/G, and 1C5GT/G. All Ever Ready/Sylvania types made in the USA, except for the DF33 which is Mullard. The set is in remarkably good condition and seems to have had an easy life, or been in storage for a long time. The date of manufacture is clearly stamped on the inside bottom of the set, 18th of June 1947.

The cabinet is of plywood construction with cream painted side panels. The front panel is made from one curved sheet of painted perspex, with another flatter piece forming the back panel. This elegant design with it's flowing lines makes this set one of my personal favourites.

The only restoration needed is for the side panels to be repainted. It is interesting to note that this chassis was used by Cossor in their model 469 in October 1947 but with the new miniature, all glass 'B7G' valves. The introduction of these valves with their lower battery consumption, gave the portable market a whole new lease of life.
