Info/Man

Capt Info - master of Enterprise Management

T  ivoli Information Management for z/OS also known as Service Desk for OS/390 and popularly known as Info/Man is the enterprises tool for managing problems, changes and configurations. With powerful easy searching of a lightning fast database it is a strategic product supported by Tivoli and IBM. Perhaps its greatest strength is the ease by which it can be customised to data centre requirements and continually adapted to meet changing circumstances. Need a new field? Ten minutes work, no interruption to users, no database reorg.

Training

You want to create a new field, add some automation, code a report, fix a problem, or understand what your Info/Man system is doing? You've looked at IBM's training catalogue without finding Info/Man scheduled courses. Don't worry. You've come to the right place.

I can give you all the information and training you would have learned on IBM's course at your site in fewer days and at a considerably more attractive price.

How can I be so certain? Because I wrote and taught IBM's world-wide courses, TM44 Initial Customisation, TM45 Automation & Control and TM46 Host Reporting, as well as the UK classes EA76 Info/Man for End Users and EA79 Customising Info/Man Reports.

IBM hasn't scheduled Info/Man classes since 2000. Instead they sent me to give on-site skills-transfer sessions, covering course material using the customers system. While this is a highly effective method of gaining Info/Man knowledge and skills, it was expensive for one or two people. But no longer; as I am working independently I am able to be much more competitive.

I left IBM (UK) Ltd in January 2003 on an early retirement package and am now working as an independent trainer/consultant. I have a passport and driving licence and can travel anywhere. Please contact me with any questions, I look forward to hearing from you.

User Groups

User Groups are a useful source of information. I have a (rather out of date) list of user groups, with information on past and future meetings.

N & Q
Some of the interesting questions I receive, and their answers are in the Notes and Queries section.

Pick'n'Mix Reports
Pick'n'Mix Reports give users the ability to construct their own reports by selecting the fields they want and the order in which they appear. Read it in May 1996 The Structured Word or at the Lab Web site.

Print'n'Go
Print'n'Go describes how you can add names and descriptions of new reports to a list record, without having to do any panel modification - or having to create new p-words. This article appears the October 1996 Structured Word, and you can also read it here.

Dep-Val-Lists
How to make a validation list depend on a value entered in another field? Easy! How to make several fields depend on the value entered in another field? Also easy ! Read about it here. This is the accompanying material to my presentation to the National US 1998 Conference.

Web Reports
Instead of printing and distributing your reports, why not show them on your intranet. Use HTML tags in the output. And don't forget graphical reports; why not convert them to GIFs and display them on your intranet? The details are here
