Another Victory for Dolphins
Pocklington Dolphins Senior squad travelled to Scarborough to take on Kingfishers, Driffield & Derwent Valley in this Ridings League fixture.
Once again four very evenly matched teams fought a close encounter with the Dolphins coming out on top for the second time in a month.
The younger swimmers once again set the ball rolling with victories in the Medley Team relay events. The Girls 10yrs team of Kirsty Salmon, Mollie Britton, Megan Burrow & Abigail Coulson were quickly followed by the Boys 12&U team of Andrew Redmore, Max Galley, Daniel Cleaver & Thomas Stubley in winning their races.
This trend continued with Thomas & Mollie both winning their Individual 10yrs Freestyle events. It was the 10 years age group that kept on rattling up the points with Ryan Rudd coming 1st in both his 25m Breaststroke and Butterfly events and Megan Burrow winning her Butterfly race aswell.
Andrew Redmore clinched 1st place in the Boys 12&U 50m Backstroke and in the 14&U boys events Jake Galley ( Freestyle ) & Luke Huffington ( Breaststroke ) both comfortably won their races.
Most excited winner of the night was Julia Laws who showed her enjoyment at winning the Girls Open Butterfly with the biggest smile seen in a swimming pool for a long while.
The gala was very closely contested when the event reached the Freestyle relays. This part of the gala has been known to be a bit of a stumbling block for the club recently but the youngsters once again led the way. First it was the Boys 10 yrs ( Peter Smith, Nathan Smith, Ben Potter & Thomas Stubley.) closely followed by the Girls in the same age group ( Megan, Kirsty, Abigail & Mollie ). The girls making it a Relay double on the night. The boys 12&U team also did the double with Ryan swimming up with Andrew, Daniel, & Max to seal victory once again .
Several swimmers were swimming in their first major senior gala and they all performed well as late replacements after a couple of late call ups. So a special well done to them, Paula Laws, Lily Woodward & Duncan Bell. A big thank you to Emily Kendra who came out of her enforced retirement to help out.
The other squad members all swam well against very evenly matched opposition and they were Gemma Burrow, Beth Edwards, Chloe Huffington, Alex Mawer, Katie Quinn, Abigail Smith, Phillp Kendra, Andrew Pearce, Stuart Pearce, Michael Smith, Laura Green & last but not least the ever improving Demi Lidster.
The final points were as follows:
Pocklington 121 pts, Kingfishers 120 pts, Derwent Valley 117 pts,
Driffield 111 pts.
A big thank you goes to Sharon, Suzanne, Mariline, Karen, Maria for Timekeeping, Team Managing etc as the Gala's can't go ahead without their help.
