Dolphins make terrific start to the year
Pocklington Dolphins have made a terrific start to the year despite the closure of the pool at Francis Scaife for refurbishment. The team travelled to Scarborough two weeks ago for a Friendly League gala and came out in 2nd place in a closely contested event. Several swimmers were competing in their first ever competitive gala.
Last Saturday saw Dolphins triumphant at home in the Pocklington Times League. The younger swimmers set the ball rolling with victories in the medley team relay events. The Girls 11 years & under team of Natalie Wragg, Claire Briggs, Katie Hopwood and Fran Lyon were followed by the Boys 13 years & under team of Andy Redmore, Gavin Thomson, Ryan Rudd and Daniel Cleaver.
The trend continued with wins from the Boys and Girls 15 years & under teams of Jack Bowes, Luke Huffington, Chris Chadwick, Max Galley and the girls, Emily Kendra, Charlotte Palmer, Katie Quinn and Rachel Curnow.
The first individual win came easily for Charlotte Palmer in the 13 years & under 100 Breaststroke, closely followed by Luke Huffington in the 15 years & under 100m Butterfly.
Other wins of the evening came in from Julia Laws in the Open 100m Freestyle, Jedd Jackson in 11 years & under Breaststroke and Rachel Curnow in 15 years & under Freestyle.
There was much anticipation as the gala reached the freestyle relay stage. No need for concern as the Boys 11 years and under team of Peter Smith, Jedd Jackson, Huw Jones and Adam Falkingham finished in first place. They were followed by both 13 and under teams, boys, Andy Redmore, Daniel Cleaver, Gavin Thomson, Ryan Rudd, girls, Heather Curnow, Kirsty Salmon, Lucy Eade and Alice Willoughby.
Other members of the squad swam well against tough opposition earning a respectable 52 PB's and 3 club records. The final scores were Pocklington 125pts, South Hunsley 117pts, Knottingley 108 pts and Rossington 93 pts. Well done to everyone who took part.
