Peerie Bear Books
The Peerie Bear tales are written by Gillian Fox. Born in Yorkshire, England, and now living in Shetland with her family and ever-expanding menagerie, she has written a series of six books for children, portraying life on a remote Shetland isle, as seen through the eyes of Peerie Bear (Peerie is Shetland dialect for small). All aspects of life peculiar to remote island communities are explored, from the vital lifeboat services, through myths and folklore and the unforgettable 'Up Helly Aa' - Shetland's famous fire festival, to Shetland's own 'peerie pony'! Adults and children alike will love the stories of this 'smaller than average bear' with a very large ego! Beautifully illustrated in full colour by Shetland art student, Eve Eunson, who illustrated the first book, Peerie Bear and the Fire Festival, while still at school. Her colourful designs are also available as T-shirts.
