SUBJECT: Wow, this one turned into an essay...POSTED: 13/03/03 BY: SAM
So i was watchin evangelion last night and theres a song near the end* and this song plays in the background. Its called "komm summer tod" which translates as "come sweet death" in english. Its sung in english but was originaly written in japanese and translated out into german and english. Now the english version, allthough quite sad is now where near as depressing as the original which i feel is best reflected in the german translation (once translated into english.. damn this gets confusing.)
Basicly i reckon the english version has been watered down to make it into an acceptable song. see what u think, the german version's the one right at the bottom. it's worth noting that the lyrics were written by the writer/director and are to reflect the mental state of the hero
Also an interesting side issue, japanese kinda has a word for the emotion in between liking and loving someone. In english you either love someone or you dont, in japanese you can sorta love someone, its a bit like being part pregnant or even half dead to a western mind but there you go.
