The name of this carpet was clearly inspired by the flowers in the design which are in abundance in this lovely country of Kashmir. The design also has influences of the Mogul period. Unlike most oriental carpet designs (other than prayer mats) the pattern is laid out in one direction. Most designs, particularly for larger carpets, will repeat in each half. The carpet is woven in hand spun Indian wool and the ends are finished with a short kelim incorporating the colours of the Indian flag and the tea dyed fringe complements this old design.
As a guide to the price of this carpet: a runner 245cm in length by 75cm
in width (8 ft by 2 ft 6 inches) would cost £250
(note that sizes are approximate)
