The Weald and Downs Open air museum at Singleton near Chichester in West Sussex
Set in 50 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside the museum provides an opportunity to wander amongst a collection of nearly 50 historic buildings dating from the 13th to the 19th century, many with period gardens, together with farm animals, woodland walks and a picturesque lake.

The day was mild for the time of year which allowed us top wander around the buildings or stand and look at the animals, a highlight being the shire horses, it was however nice to get into the buildings where a log fire was blazing in the centre of the room and to enjoy mulled wine or mulled cider

Coming in the week after the Tsunami in Asia, the starkness of many of the buildings demonstrated how much we rely and often take for granted the comforts of modern life, as vision impaired people we particularly value good lighting and wondered how diffiucult it would have been in the days before electricity
Our thanks go to volunteer driver Steve and his wife Rosie for giving up their day to enable us to get to the museum
