A visit to Wisconsin U.S.A. was made in June 2001 mainly to record the scene prior to the takeover of Wisconsin Central by Canadian National.

Wisconsin Central is known to most U.K. rail-fans  because of their ownership of the major U.K. freight company E.W.S. Similarities in the loco liveries will be noted.

The policy adopted by Wisconsin Central in the U.K. was to replace all the older classes of locos with new build examples from GM (250 locos of Class 66 supplied from the London, Ontario factory). This was in complete contrast to their policy in the U.S. where they have never owned a new loco. Most of the Wisconsin Central fleet date from the 1970s.
