A question which you might be able to answer

Michael Lindermann of CNI News recently asked if we could help him with a question.

At a big UFO confab in Nevada this week, two Brits named Peter Wrigglesworth and David Spoor held forth with stories of UFO contact, showing various videos. I wasn't able to make it, so am going on second-hand reports. Bob Brown, the organizer, told me prior to the event that these two would likely be the stars of the show. However, reports afterward were quite glum. Video not impressive, story not compelling -- or so I've heard.

Question being: Who are these guys, and how are they perceived by you and your colleagues? Any info will be appreciated.

Thanks much,
Michael Lindemann

RIDDLE OF UFO SIGHTED OVER HOWARDS HOUSE

TAKE us to your leader

By DAVID DERBYSHIRE

AS the minister in charge of immigration, he was used to dealing with illegal Aiens. But it seems that some visitors to Michael Howard's country retreat were far more alien than those queuing hopefully at the Home Office. At least eight witnesses claim that a UFO hovered near the then Home Secretary's Kent home a few weeks before the General Election.

The close encounter was taken so seriously that spin doctors at Conservative Central Party Office were alerted, it emerged yesterday. It is still unclear why aliens would want a face-to-tentacle chat with a minister once described as having 'something of the night about him'. Maybe they were after some advice about inter-planetary border controls. Or perhaps they simply got Mr Howard mixed up with John Redwood, the one-time Tory leader-ship contender known as The Vul- can for his Mr Spock-like analytical style.

The UFO was spotted on March 8 last year, a week before John Major announced the election date.

One witness, local newspaper reporter Sarah Hall, was driving through Lympne, near Hythe at 3am when she noticed an unusual humming. She stopped and watched a craft floating over a nearby field, close to Michael Howard's home. It was shiny, with a dome at one end and bright lights around its side. 'I had no idea what it was,' she sald. 'I felt the hairs stand up on the back on my neck.'

Local UFO expert Chris Rolfe said other witnesses, including two firemen, saw the craft that night in a 15-mile radius of Mr Howard's home.

The Tory chiefs were alerted alter Miss Hail wrote a first-hand account for the Folkestone Herald, where she had worked for 18 months. Yesterday advisers who worked closely with Mr Howard during the election campaign confirmed that the UFO story was well known in Westminster but denied there had been a 'Men in Black'-style cover up.

They did admit, however, that the party had been keen to play down the sighting because of the risk of embarrassing headlines.

'Mr Howard had more important matters to deal with than UFOs,' one source said yesterday. 'He knew about the reports, but I doubt whether he was very concerned about them.' John Major's press secretary Sheila Gunn also confirmed that Party Central Office knew about the UFO in the run-up to the election. 'There were calls about it because the local paper had done something,' she said. 'But while we take calls seriously, there are some that we'd rather ignore.'

Although the sighting is well documented, the police and Ministry of Defence say they have no records. Sceptics say the cran was probably a helicopter or jet. But some locals say the true story has not come out and believe the local paper came under pressure to play down, the incident, Kent UFO expert Derek Sheffield said the Government was obsessed with hushing up UFO reports. 'There's one hell of a cover-up going on here,' he said.

But Melody Foreman, who took over as acting editor shortly alter the sighting, denied that the paper had come under pressure to suppress the story.

Mark Watts, the Labour MEP for Kent East and a self-confessed sceptic, is campaigning for an end to the secrecy surrounding UFOs. 'If someone like the Home Secretary - one of the most protected people in Britain - is subjected to a close encounter, you would expect there to be a comment from someone,' he said. 'The whole thing is very mysterious.'

Water on the moon?

The BBC has been told that data sent back from the Lunar Prospector space probe suggests there is water on the moon.

If this is right, then the presence of water-ice on the moon will transform the prospects for a manned lunar colony.

It would be more likely that a base on the moon would be established before one on Mars.

Conformation of the discovery is expected from the Lunar Prospector team within weeks.

For decades, scientists have speculated that there could be up to a billion tonnes of ice buried deep in craters, where sunlight never reaches.

The data sent back from the probe seems to indicate that there is water and water-ice in deep fissures near the South Pole.

Lunar Prospector was launched on January 7 from Florida on an Athena rocket. The 12-month mission also involves mapping the lunar surface to determine its composition and its gravitational and magnetic fields.

The total cost of the project is just under $63m, which includes the spacecraft, the science instruments, integration and test, launch and all mission operations.

Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space, in Sunnyvale, California built the spacecraft. The project began as a private initiative to show that small, inexpensive missions could be developed in a short time, and still do high quality science.

UFOs invade Barwood race

By Michael Murphy

Frances Emma Barwood is going where no politician has gone before, even in Arizona.

In a state already known for its offbeat politics, the former Phoenix vice mayor emerged Tuesday as an international poster girl for the UFO crowd by vowing to become the first candidate ever to push the issue that the government is concealing evidence that alien beings have arrived on Earth.

"I've been called worse," Barwood said. "It doesn't scare me."

In one of the most unusual news conferences of the election season, Barwood appeared with a group of UFO researchers from across the country to announce her bid for secretary of state.

She initially sought to downplay her promise to unearth answers about extraterrestrials by saying, "That is not my only platform."

But Barwood's national campaign manager, Stephen Bassett, a Washington lobbyist for UFOlogists, promised that Barwood quickly will become an international figure because of her campaign to force the government to discuss the possibility of an intelligent extraterrestrial presence on Earth.

"This campaign is going to truly be the road less travelled. In fact, this campaign is going to be the road never travelled," he said.

Bassett has been trying to tell Congress about alien spacecraft that have visited Earth over the years, but most members have treated him like he just beamed in from Mars.

But now the Bethesda, Md., consultant has found a candidate willing to press the issue, and he's promising an aggressive campaign that will garner national attention - and campaign contributions.

"You can't imagine the amount of support she is going to get," Bassett said. "We anticipate global interest in this campaign."

Bassett last year assisted Barwood in pressing the government for answers about mysterious lights that appeared over Phoenix in March.

Her harping about the bizarre light show got her plenty of snickers from fellow City Council members, but her effort also gave her national exposure that continued Tuesday as she appeared on the radio show "Coast to Coast with Art Bell," a live overnight call-in program that airs locally on KFYI-AM (910) at 11 .m.

Barwood doesn't have any first-hand experience with extraterrestrials, but that isn't stopping her from championing the cause of those who believe alien ships have visited Earth and carted off a few humans on their way out.

"I unfortunately have never seen anything," she explained. "What can I say? . . . I don't know what is out there. I've narrowed it down to three things. It's either military, a hoax or something unknown. Whatever it is, I want to know, and I want a re-enactment."

Barwood is a Republican, but the state's GOP establishment is likely to treat her as if she just arrived from Neptune.

State GOP chairman Mike Hellon, when told of Barwood's UFO platform, quipped, "Sounds like a major issue for the secretary of state to me."

Hellon is supporting appointed Secretary of State Betsey Bayless but said, "Every Republican has a right to run for public office. We can't control that."

While the Secretary of State's Office ordinarily deals with more mundane issues like tracking campaign contributions and registering lobbyists, Barwood wants to use the office as a bully pulpit.

Barwood, 54, outlined other platforms that ranged from weeding out non-citizens from voter registration rolls to allowing law-abiding citizens to "carry any weapon, in any way, in any place, at any time."

WOMAN'S DAYLIGHT ENCOUNTER WITH UNUSUAL BEING

Says Creature Had Six-Fingered Hands, Ran "Like Gazelle"

According to a story first reported in a new magazine called "Unknown," a woman named Katherine (K.T.) Francovich had a sensational daylight encounter with a being that seems in many ways similar to a so-called "grey" alien, but with some notable differences. The encounter allegedly took place in Dade County, Florida (near Miami) in May of 1992.

CNI News is aware of many reports of alien encounters, describing many bizarre beings. As a rule, we would not present such a report by a single witness, lacking other evidence. But the witness in this case seems to be especially credible and well-qualified, and was interviewed by respected researcher, author and filmmaker Linda Moulton Howe, who characterizes this story as "one of the top two or three" eyewitness encounter reports she has ever recorded. We present this unusual case in the public interest, with no guarantee of its authenticity.

Linda Howe contacted K.T. Francovich and played the resulting interview on Art Bell's nationally syndicated "Dreamland" radio program on Sunday night, January 25, 1998. Bell then interviewed Francovich live on the air on Tuesday night, January 27. Both interviews can be heard via AudioNet on the web. [http://ww2.audionet.com/artbell/archive.html#jan98, Sunday 1/25 (beginning) and Tuesday 1/27 (second hour)]

The following text summarizes Linda Howe's broadcast interview.

Howe began her radio segment by saying that K.T. Francovich has had a long career as a wildlife photographer and filmmaker and is therefore a skilled observer and comfortable in the wild. She comes from a family of filmmakers. Her great uncle Mike Francovich Sr. was once president of Columbia Pictures, and two of her cousins were involved in producing such acclaimed films as "Exodus" and "Lawrence of Arabia." Judging from the tone of the interview, K.T. Francovich is down-to-earth, highly intelligent and physically fit.

The incident began as Francovich was walking two large "attack- trained" dogs on leashes through a deserted grove of dying, leafless lime trees in southern Florida.

She heard a loud noise, as if someone were cutting down a tree with an ax. Turning toward the noise, she says, she saw a humanoid being standing by a tree. The being had "grayish pink" skin, non-porous and "almost plastic" looking. She estimates the being stood four feet nine inches tall. It was wearing snug-fitting, metallic-looking clothing that clearly showed the shaped of its body.

"The most alarming thing that caught my attention immediately was the head," Francovich said. The upper part of the skull was disproportionately wide, the eyes were huge, black and almond-shaped, with no whites or pupils visible. It had "two tiny nostrils where we would think of a nose being, and the lips were very small and not well-defined at all, just a tiny slit in the face. Its ears seemed to be dropped down a little bit and were very much smaller than ours, pressed flat against the head," Francovich said.

"The body was as startling as the head, because the upper torso did not match the lower torso. The arms were very long, without what we call muscle tone, very skinny, extending into very long hands. The hands were six- fingered, definitely six digits on each hand. I know, because I counted them more than once. The thing that fascinated me about the hands -- because I've worked quite a bit with primates -- is that the thumb [of this creature] was in the exact location of where the human thumb is. So there was a thumb and FIVE fingers, instead of four.

"The neck was again without muscle tone, thin-looking. The shoulders were not well-defined. It had a very slender frame and [what] appeared to be a little pot-belly, just a little round."

"But then, once you came down to the thighs, an extraordinary thing happened. The thighs were actually OVER-developed. Coming down to the calves, they looked exactly like the legs of a well-trained athlete. I mean bulging muscles.

"The feet were small, I would say too small for the rest of the body, particularly those well-developed legs. On the feet [were] what looked like a cloth boot, made out of the same metallic material that it was wearing for clothes.

"I want to tell people that I was shocked, shell-shocked," Francovich told Howe. "I've worked with quite a few dangerous animals in my lifetime, worked up close to them, but I've never seen a being like this. It wasn't that I was afraid of it attacking me, because I had no time to think of that. What shocked me was that I couldn't identify it. And one thing I can stress to you is that it was just as shocked as I was. We both were at a dead stand-off, staring at each other."

Linda Howe then asked Francovich if she felt any unusual energy, controlling force or telepathic communication coming from the being. Howe noted that the "Unknown" magazine article said Francovich's dogs, normally aggressive, just sat down quietly in the presence of the being.

Francovich said that, regarding any kind of controlling force, "I don't like to guess. But I will most definitely say something out of the normal was taking place. These were two huge, aggressive, attack-trained dogs. And both of them, the moment they looked at this being, did lay down on the ground and put their heads down, just as if they were sound asleep. I can't tell you whether this being was controlling them mentally, but I can tell you this was very bizarre behavior.

"This stare-down lasted quite a while, because I had enough time to go over this body several times, and a million things were going through my head," Francovich said. But then, something even stranger happened. The being began to run.

"The moment I saw it run, I understood its legs. I had never seen anything like this in my life and I'll never forget it as long as I live. Do you know what a Thompson Gazelle is?" she asked Howe.

"Right, they kind of spring, like they're on pogo sticks or something," Howe replied.

"Exactly. When they run, when they come down and hit the ground, it's exacly like you said, like pogo sticks -- leap, leap, leap, with very little effort. This is exactly how this being ran. It would actually spring, I would say, easily three feet up every time its feet touched the ground. He looked like a gazelle in motion.

"Well, I took off running with him. We ran neck to neck down this grove. The dogs were running beside me, although at no point did they ever start barking. We ran quite a distance. It's a darn good thing there weren't any telephone poles in my path, because I never took my eyes off him. I couldn't. I would have smacked right into a telephone pole and knocked myself out, that's how concentrated I was. We ran, I would say, a distance of several city blocks. It was the most fascinating thing I've ever seen in my life."

Francovich said that they finally came to a kind of tunnel that was formed from densely growing vines on the dead trees. "He darted right into it and disappeared. The moment he entered that tunnel -- I was still in motion, running with him -- I hit a wall of stench like I have never hit in my life. It was a combination of sulphuric acid and formaldehyde. It was so strong that it actually burned the lining of my nose. It was like running into a concrete wall, that strong.

"I knew instantly that there were others in that tunnel, a lot of them. I knew that they were waiting for me to follow him. And I actually exclaimed out loud, 'OOOPS!' I turned on my heels and literally dragged those dogs at a full run in the opposite direction. I would say we ran a good mile and a half."

Linda Howe asked Francovich if she went back to that spot later. She said that she and the dogs went back the next day and had a different kind of encounter.

"I had my dogs, was running them, and low and behold, here comes this black car, right at me in the grove. Government plates. It pulled up next to me. Two fellows sitting in the front seats, both had on black suits. The one sitting nearest to me on the passenger side said, 'Have you ever seen anything strange in this grove?' And I wasn't about to tell him or anybody else what I'd seen.'"

Francovich said that the man gave her a business card that had a raised gold emblem of the White House on it, but no other information that would connect them to a particular agency. After a brief conversation, they drove away. Francovich was left with the impression that these men already knew about the beings and were mainly trying to determine if she knew anything.

At first she kept the details of her encounter to herself, but then told her husband, David Cobb, who recently wrote the article that appeared in "Unknown" magazine. More details of Francovich's story can be heard in Art Bell's archived AudioNet programs listed above.

Voyager 1 Now Most Distant Human-Made Object in Space

In a dark, cold, vacant neighborhood near the very edge of our Solar System, the Voyager 1 spacecraft is set to break another record and become the explorer that has traveled farthest from home.

At approximately 5:10 p.m. EST on Feb. 17, 1998, Voyager 1, launched more than two decades ago, will cruise beyond the Pioneer 10 spacecraft and become the most distant human-created object in space, at 6.5 billion miles (10.4 billion kilometers) from Earth. The two are headed in almost opposite directions away from the Sun.

"For 25 years, the Pioneer 10 spacecraft led the way, pressing the frontiers of exploration, and now the baton is being passed from Pioneer 10 to Voyager 1 to continue exploring where no one has gone before," said Dr. Edward C. Stone, Voyager project scientist and Director of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Pasadena, CA.

"At almost 70 times farther from the Sun than the Earth, Voyager 1 is at the very edge of the Solar System. The Sun there is only 1/5,000th as bright as here on Earth, so it is extremely cold, and there is very little solar energy to keep the spacecraft warm or to provide electrical power. The reason we can continue to operate at such great distances from the Sun is because we have radioisotope thermal electric generators (RTGs) on the spacecraft that create electricity and keep the spacecraft operating," Stone said. "The fact that the spacecraft is still returning data is a remarkable technical achievement."

Voyager 1 was launched from Cape Canaveral on Sept. 5, 1977. The spacecraft encountered Jupiter on March 5, 1979, and Saturn on Nov. 12, 1980.

Then, because its trajectory was designed to fly close to Saturn's large moon Titan, Voyager 1's path was bent northward by Saturn's gravity, sending the spacecraft out of the ecliptic plane -- the plane in which all the planets except Pluto orbit the Sun.

Launched on March 2, 1972, the Pioneer 10 mission officially ended on March 31, 1997. However, NASA's Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA, intermittently receives science data from Pioneer as part of a training program for flight controllers of the Lunar Prospector spacecraft now orbiting the Moon.

"The Voyager mission today presents an unequalled technical challenge. The spacecraft are now so far from home that it takes nine hours and 36 minutes for a radio signal traveling at the speed of light to reach Earth," said Ed B. Massey, project manager for the Voyager Interstellar Mission at JPL. "That signal, produced by a 20 watt radio transmitter, is so faint that the amount of power reaching our antennas is 20 billion times smaller than the power of a digital watch battery."

Having completed their planetary explorations, Voyager 1 and its twin, Voyager 2, are studying the environment of space in the outer Solar System. Although beyond the orbits of all the planets, the spacecraft still are well within the boundary of the Sun's magnetic field, called the heliosphere. Science instruments on both spacecraft sense signals that scientists believe are coming from the outermost edge of the heliosphere, known as the heliopause.

The heliosphere results from the Sun's emitting a steady flow of electrically charged particles called the solar wind. As the solar wind expands supersonically into space in all directions, it creates a magnetized bubble -- the heliosphere -- around the Sun. Eventually, the solar wind encounters the electrically charged particles and magnetic field in the interstellar gas. In this zone the solar wind abruptly slows down from supersonic to subsonic speed, creating a termination shock. Before the spacecraft travel beyond the heliopause into interstellar space, they will pass through this termination shock.

"The data coming back from Voyager now suggest that we may pass through the termination shock in the next three to five years," Stone said. "If that's the case, then one would expect that within 10 years or so we would actually be very close to penetrating the heliopause itself and entering into interstellar space for the first time."

Reaching the termination shock and heliopause will be major milestones for the mission because no spacecraft have been there before and the Voyagers will gather the first direct evidence of their structure. Encountering the termination shock and heliopause has been a long-sought goal for many space physicists, and exactly where these two boundaries are located and what they are like still remains a mystery.

Science data are returned to Earth in real-time to the 34- meter Deep Space Network antennas located in California, Australia and Spain. Both spacecraft have enough electricity and attitude control propellant to continue operating until about 2020, when electrical power produced by the RTGs will no longer support science instrument operation. At that time, Voyager 1 will be almost 150 times farther from the Sun than the Earth -- almost 14 billion miles (more than 20 billion kilometers) away.

On Feb. 17, Voyager 1 will be departing the Solar System at a speed of 39,000 miles per hour (17.4 kilometers per second ). At the same time, Voyager 2 will be 5.1 billion miles (8.1 billion kilometers) from Earth and is departing the Solar System at a speed of 35,000 miles per hour (15.9 kilometers per second).

JPL, a division of the California Institute of Technology, manages the Voyager Interstellar Mission for NASA's Office of Space Science, Washington, DC.

ET can't phone home

The increasing number of satellites is adding to the background noise in space, spoiling the work of radio astronomers and hindering the search for life elsewhere. Tom Standage reports

THERE was a time when astronomy was a relatively straightforward business: astronomers (down on Earth) looked at celestial objects (up in the skies).

But ever since the launch of Sputnik in 1957 the number of man- made objects orbiting the Earth has increased steadily - crowding the skies, causing problems for astronomers, and even hindering the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI).

It is the radio astronomers, who observe celestial objects by tuning in to their radio emissions, that are experiencing the greatest headaches. With several competing satellite networks under construction, each of which will use dozens of orbiting satellites to support mobile phones that work anywhere on Earth, the skies will soon be full of radio sources.

Admittedly, the radio spectrum is divided up by international agreement in such a way that the frequencies most important to radio astronomers - such as the 1610-1613MHz band - cannot be used by communications satellites. However, Iridium, one of the satellite networks being built at the moment, has been allocated the 1621-1626MHz band - right next door. This means side-lobe or "out-of-band" emissions produced by satellites are picked up by astronomers.

"It's a massive problem," says Dr Derek McNally of the Royal Astronomical Society. "The radio astronomy people are really very far from happy."

In the case of the 1610-1613MHz band, such interference affects astronomers' interstellar yardstick. "This special band is associated with a particular type of star, and it provides radio astronomy with a way to measure distance," says Dr John Ponsonby, of Jodrell Bank.

What's more, the 1610-1613MHz band would be a good band for interstellar communication - a situation in which cutting out man- made interference is vital. "The people who have been putting money into SETI have mostly been putting it into how to filter out the sort of signal they might be expecting from the man-made junk," says Ponsonby.

Of course, the astronomers aren't suggesting that all existing satellites should be shut down and all future launches cancelled. "Obviously, we can't have exclusive use of everything," says astronomer Dr Tom Muxlow. "It's a question of both sides being helpful and sensible and trying to find a happy medium."

A conference in Geneva last month saw the latest round of negotiations between astronomers and satellite operators over the issue of frequency allocation. With more global satellite phone systems on the way, astronomers have been fiercely defending their turf. "It's a continuous battle for astronomers to protect their bands against encroachment from commercial concerns," says Muxlow.

Klaus Olms of the International Telecommunication Union, the body which decides who can use which bands, says the astronomers have done a good job of fighting their corner. He insists the ITU's procedures are working well in safeguarding the astronomers' interests. Iridium, meanwhile, says it has been working with astronomers to try to reduce the impact of side-band emissions.

But even the full co-operation of the commercial satellite operators won't solve all the problems. "There's one signal we get interference from that no one will own up to," says Ponsonby. "It's been there for years. It's presumably a spy satellite, but it's in a band allocated to radio astronomy."

Evidently, the battle between astronomers and satellite operators will continue. In the mean time, any extraterrestrials out there trying to make contact with us could have trouble getting through.

Former Heaven's Gate follower kills himself

Dressed like the 39 Heaven's Gate cult members who killed themselves near San Diego last year, a former follower apparently committed suicide, nine months after a failed attempt.

Charles Edward Humphrey's head was wrapped in plastic with tubes running to a car's exhaust pipe and a tank marked "carbon dioxide" when his body was found Tuesday, Lt. Don Davis of the La Paz County Sheriff's Department said Friday.

Authorities had been alerted by Humphrey's daughter, who had received a note from him that read: "'I'm returning to my mother ship,' and all that stuff we had with Heaven's Gate." His body was found in a small tent sealed with duct tape in the desert near Ehrenberg, just across the Colorado River from Blythe, Calif., Davis said. A note next to the body read "DO NOT REVIVE."

Next to Humphrey, 55, in the tent was a purple shroud, an item found with the cult members whose bodies were discovered March 26, 1997, in a mansion in the posh San Diego suburb of Rancho Santa Fe. He was wearing black sweatpants and a black T-shirt with a patch on the sleeve saying "Heaven's Gate Away Team," Davis said.

Humphrey carried a $5 bill and five quarters, Davis said, similar to the money Heaven's Gate members had on them in the mass suicide.

Authorities said Humphrey apparently had rendered himself unconscious with chloroform so he couldn't tear off the bag as it appeared he had done in an Encinitas, Calif., motel room nine months earlier.

Another former cult member with him at that time, 56-year-old Wayne "Nick" Cooke, died, but Humphrey survived.

Mike Downing, an investigator with the Pima County medical examiner's office, where Humphrey's body was taken for autopsy, said Humphrey apparently committed suicide, although other possibilities hadn't been ruled out.

Humphrey had been in and out of Heaven's Gate since 1975 before leaving in 1995. Formed by Marshall Herff Applewhite in the early 1970s, Heaven's Gate followed a bizarre theology of Christianity and UFOs. The cult members left videotaped messages saying they were shedding their bodies - which they called "containers" - for a trip to a "level beyond human" aboard a spaceship trailing the Hale-Bopp comet.

In a site Humphrey left on the World Wide Web, he wrote: "One thing I know for a fact. I still have permission to leave, any time I want to and there is nothing this world (can) do that will keep me from ultimately returning to the Next Level."

Q: What is the Reptoids favourite soup?

A: Human noodle

Q: How many Reptoids does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: None....They'd get the Greys to do it.

The greys are so short, when they sit on a curb, their feet dangle.

Aliens are so short, they can be put on a trophy.

The greys are so short, when they blush, they look like a match.

CHAPTER 11 Daylight couldn't arrive soon enough for me. At the first hint of sunlight through the window, I hastily dressed, grabbing the first clothes at hand. Leaving the bed unmade and dishes undone, I rushed to the office an hour early. My post-abduction fear was almost a tangible presence, and I fought to regain self-control. I simply couldn't be alone. Without the safety of being in a crowd, I was terrified the alien entities would return. I worked feverishly throughout the workday, vainly trying to shut out that small, insistent voice that reminded me my husband would not be home until late that evening.

Unable to face entering my home alone, I drove to Mother's house after work. She had been ill since the Convention, and I thought I would see if her respiratory condition had improved, and also keep my post-abduction fear at bay by having company. One glance at my ashen face told her something was gravely wrong. As we sat at her table, I blurted out what had happened in an emotion- charged voice. As I concluded my story, I told her I also knew my brother would be having an alien encounter soon. Mother asked what made me think that, and I replied, "Mom, when I thought of his dachshund, I asked the aliens to prove to him that they were real."

As the hours slowly passed, darkness surrounded the point of light that was Mother's house. The quiet was shattered by the ringing of the phone at 9:30 P.M. My husband was home, and trying to locate me. With relief, I told him I would be there right away--and that I had something to tell him. I was bemused by his answer. He had something to tell me, too.

Rushing home, I met my husband in the doorway. Without pausing for breath, I began my story. As I progressed with the narrative, he became pale, and unsteadily sat down. The dog, only moments before excited and frisking about, tucked her tail between her legs and slunk down at the foot of the couch. I paused, wondering at her uncharacteristic actions.

"Well," my husband said, "Jack told me something interesting this morning. Sometime between 11:00 P.M. and midnight, he had what seems to have been an encounter with aliens." As I collapsed on the couch, he continued with the story Jack had told him that morning enroute to St. Louis. When Jack had gone to sleep that night, he was awakened by a sensation that something was standing at the foot of his bed. As his eyes flew open, startled, he felt what he described as a vibration--like driving over a rumble-strip. He had become very frightened, and realized he couldn't move. He recalled saying, "Please, don't!", and then everything went black. When he next came to, the surroundings were back to normal, but he knew something was wrong with the time element.

Sleep came fitfully that evening. My husband and I were both tense, and afraid that if we relaxed our vigil the aliens would strike again. Every sound--every move--brought us both wide awake and anticipating that altered reality. With bleary, bloodshot eyes we faced the morning together, and stumbled off to our jobs.

A few days passed in weary oblivion as I slowly calmed down enough to face the dark without cringing. On October 7, John was able to return the frantic call I had placed to him immediately following the encounter, and I shakily related to him what had transpired. I requested a session with him relating to this incident. Due to conflicting schedules, the earliest possible date was November 22.

On October 8, my sister telephoned me at work with urgent news. Mother's respiratory condition had worsened, and my sister had rushed her to see the doctor. Although she had not been admitted to the hospital, the doctor was concerned and asked that we monitor her condition. After work that day, I dropped by her house to check on her. I was surprised to find my brother there. Family relations with him had been strained since my embarking on this "journey," and he had not spoken with any of us since the Convention, so was unaware of her illness.

"I have to tell you something," my brother said, as I entered the house and sat next to him at the table. "On the 6th, I went to work early. I did something unusual--I took the main road through town, instead of the shortcut I always take. I don't know why; I just decided to take the different route.

"It was still dusky out, and as I drove past the school, I noticed a brightly lit object in the sky. It was an orange-white color. As I continued driving, I caught glimpses of it through the trees. I thought about how people sometimes think an object's moving, because of their motion, and then realized that the thing actually was moving.

"I couldn't get a good look at it, so I decided to pull into the driveway of the funeral home just down the road. As I pulled to a stop in the driveway, the object flew directly overhead. After passing over my car, it began to gain altitude. The glow made it hard to tell what shape the thing was.

"After it disappeared, I noticed a yellow car near the door to the building. I thought it was Mom sitting there. Her arm was in view in the driver's side window, and her fingers were forming a 'V' sign. It reminded me of the signal for 'victory'.

"I freaked out. Suddenly, I knew it wasn't Mom, and whatever I had just watched fly over didn't look like an airplane. I gunned the engine and got the hell out of there!"

I asked my brother if he got to work on time that morning, and he replied that he had--as far as he knew. He had not paid that much attention to the duration of the close encounter, but didn't feel he was missing any interval of time. We chatted for several more minutes about the possible psychic implications of his experience, and then I left.

Mother's condition deteriorated over the next few days, and on October 10 she entered the hospital in acute respiratory distress. Our half-brother and half- sister joined the rest of us at the hospital, where we maintained a constant vigil. The following day, Mother appeared to be resting more comfortably, and in the late evening we all went to our homes to try to get some sleep.

When the phone call jarred us awake around 3:00 A.M., my heart gave a sickening lurch. Mother had suffered respiratory failure, and was in the Intensive Care Unit. As we rushed to the hospital, my concerns were purely human--I didn't care about anything except Mother. Everything else had been banished from my mind. Standing beside her bed where she lay so passively, I recalled my brother's "vision." With a certainty unfounded by normal means, I somehow knew she would pull through.

We all breathed a collective sigh of relief on Thursday, October 15, when Mother was released from the Intensive Care Unit, and was placed in a private room. Although she was obviously tired, she was adamant that she needed to tell us something. As we gathered to listen, she related what had happened to her, as she lay fighting for her life:

"While I was in the ICU room, I left my body. There was a void, and I travelled through it without form. There was a source of light far, far away. It reminded me of outer space, but there were no stars.

"I knew I was there to learn something. There were other essences, or souls, lining this passageway on both sides. I felt an all-encompassing sensation of love. There were several souls that were warm, with an outreaching 'light' emanating from them, and other souls were chilly. They had no 'spark'. I didn't want to connect with these dark souls, and rapidly flew on past them.

"I saw all of you at the beginning of this journey. As I went further down the passageway, I became aware that there truly is a judgement. I already knew it was not my time to go, and I was not judged. I was being allowed to see a part of what comes after.

"I finally reached a place in the void that I couldn't get beyond. I turned around and started back, and came back to my body. Shortly after that, I was awake."

I stood in stunned silence at Mother's words. I had only days before experienced a conscious alien abduction, my brother had experienced a close encounter with psychic overtones, and now Mother was telling us she had just had a Near Death Experience (NDE). The sensory input was occurring at such a fast pace, I was having trouble assimilating it.

In the days that followed, as Mother recovered from her ordeal, I noticed a distinct change in her personality. Always a somber, serious individual, she now seemed to radiate an inner peace. The sound of her laughter was prevalent, as her life took on new meaning. Our differences of opinion had disappeared in the wake of her illness and recovery, and we were again able to talk to each other about the unbelievable phenomena going on in our lives. I told her about three words that had "popped" into my head in the last few weeks: tabula rasa, Fibonacci numbers, and tripartite. I joked with her, saying I was sure they were the answers to the enigma of the Universe--but I was only being given the answer one word at a time! As we discussed all the new aspects, we began to wonder what would happen next.

The next several weeks were uneventful, and the lack of stress was a welcome relief. I had time to contemplate the coming session on November 22, and looked forward to it with anticipation. In my previous hypnosis sessions, I had recovered memories of events that had occurred many years in the past--and I was curious what the difference would be in examining more recent happenings. It seemed to be an ideal opportunity to test my memories under regression--to find out if my older memories would retain the feeling of reality after comparing them to the current ones. I knew without doubt the experience on September 29 was a physical reality, and I felt undergoing hypnosis on the experience could prove the reality of my older memories, also.

The 22nd arrived finally, cold and with a depressing gray overcast to the leaden sky above. The traffic enroute to Springfield was heavy, and the creeping mist and fog made the drive hazardous. More than once I found myself wishing the aliens would pick us up and drop us off at our destination--but leaving out the rest of the abduction. We had told John about Jack's possible encounter. Jack and Mary had accompanied us, so they could meet John and give him a more detailed analysis of what had occurred to Jack earlier on the same night I had my experience.

After a brief group conference, we separated for the actual hypnosis session. Before inducing hypnosis, John asked more in-depth questions concerning the conscious memories I recalled:

John: Can you describe for us a little more about the paralysis?

Lynne: I was laying there with nothing much on my mind, and the next thing I knew, I was hit with this wave, an instantaneous wave . . . It was like . . . I felt like I had been slam-dunked. It was a feeling as if something had thrown me into a brick wall. It started at the feet, and it was instantaneous from the feet all the way up to the head. And it does hurt. It really . . . It's a very tight . . . um . . . bound. I kept thinking, "My God, I've been wrapped up in a sheet! What's going on?" It just felt that tight. And I kept thinking, "I can't move! What is wrong?" But, the weird thing was, the minute it hit, I knew what it was. I had no doubts.

John: Did you remember feeling like that?

Lynne: Yes. That's what it was . . . that evidently the memory . . . the minute it hit, I knew I had felt it before.

John: Did the wave start in any particular area?

Lynne: It started at the feet. Right at the feet. It was deep, a very deep feeling. Almost at bone level. It's a very strange feeling. It hit so hard and so fast. I felt not only like I had been slammed into a brick wall, but also like I was tipping over backwards.

John: Were you "slammed into the brick wall" from the front or behind?

Lynne: From behind. There was never a moment where I could have done anything. Not one second. 'Cause once that hit, it was over. I was totally conscious, but when I felt like I hit the headboard, it also felt like I went up and over something.

John: Could you open your eyes at this point?

Lynne: No, not at this point. I panicked and started fighting the paralysis, and that's partly what hurt, because the harder you fight it, the worse it is.

John: Did you have any soreness the next day?

Lynne: Yeah, I did. I can't remember my body hurting so much, but my hands hurt throughout the encounter. I don't know if it's because the aliens were doing something with my hands, or because I had clenched them right as the paralysis hit. But they hurt for about two or three days afterward, especially the left thumb. It felt like it had been almost pulled out of its socket.

John: Was there any temperature difference at any time?

Lynne: I was cold throughout, from start to finish.

John: And what did you see, once the spinning stopped and you opened your eyes?

Lynne: I saw the gray alien on the right-hand side. It surprised the crud out of me, because I didn't really expect to see it. I guess hope dies hard. When I saw it, it was backlit, and there was also a bright, white light coming down from above. The alien was about at my waist area, bending over, with one arm reached out toward me. It was so real and so horrifying, that I thought, "Goddamn, they're real!" That thought was so overpowering, I felt that it heard me. It kind of flinched.

I looked at it long enough to tell that my drawings are fairly accurate, but that the head is much longer, elongated. (Sigh) . . . It's very big. The body is very small, very attenuated and emaciated. They're very thin. I'm not sure about the height, because I was lying down. I had the feeling the gray one was just a little shorter than the other, different-looking one that I saw next.

John: How did it compare with the aliens on the television movie "Intruders?"

Lynne: The biggest difference I can think of is seeing something alive and seeing something on TV. God, I don't know. It's just so weird, seeing them alive. It just really changes your belief. I didn't, at any point, see what looked like respirations.

John: Did they appear mechanical?

Lynne: Not really. I had thought the grays were more mechanical; had less of a thought pattern to them, but this one did not move mechanically. It had a mission in mind--and it was going to do whatever that was. I had an instantaneous dislike for it. The minute I saw it, I thought, "Oh, ick!" It's horrible. I just don't like those grays!

John: What about its eyes?

Lynne: This time the eyes didn't look unnatural. It was dimensional, had depth to it. It seemed to be an eye, and not just a lens. I have seen, in other experiences, what looks like a lens-cap, though, instead of a true eye.

John: What about the face? Did it have any expression to it?

Lynne: It had some, but not like humans. Not with that range of motion. But it did not seem like a robot. It didn't have that mechanical feeling. I had the distinct impression it was a living creature. And when I thought, "Oh, yuck!", I also thought, "Uh, oh. It didn't know I was conscious, and I've given myself away." Without volition, my eyes closed. My sense of hearing was totally gone through all this. And I smelled something, too, about that time. It was a very sharp, pungent smell. It almost reminded me of smelling salts. And it was also a somewhat electrical smell. Kinda burned smelling.

John: Did you have your glasses on?

Lynne: No. I had taken them off.

John: And you can see okay without them?

Lynne: I'm nearsighted, and they were very close to me-- probably no more than two or three feet away.

John: And what happened next?

Lynne: That's when I decided I had to look again, to prove they were real. And I saw the one with the different head shape. He was a bit taller than the other one. Almost Oriental-looking. The head was more compact, and his eyes were smaller. They were dark brown, instead of black. He had wrinkles in the forehead region, and for some reason that comforted me. I thought . . . "Oh, he's nice-looking." And he had on white clothing, like a smock. His lips were fuller; almost semi-human in appearance, and he had a vestigial nose. Not big, but more than just the little holes. I felt like he was older than me. He was three-dimensional . . . And I had this thought that everything was okay, and I could just close my eyes and not think about it.

John: Did those feel like your thoughts?

Lynne: (Sardonic laugh.) At the time, they did.

John: But you don't think that now?

Lynne: No. What really got to me, was that all along I had been thinking that maybe their funny, nice little brainwashing ways hadn't been exactly, totally working on me. And I was enjoying that thought. And when that happened, it kinda blew that out of the water. I thought, "Right. I'm as brainwashed as the rest of 'em."

In fact, after I told my husband about this experience, I was saying, "It wasn't so bad." And he looked at me and said, "Was it a good experience, or a bad experience?" My jaw just fell open. Up to that time, I was adamant that none of it was good.

In fact, after I told my husband about this experience, I was saying, "It wasn't so bad." And he looked at me and said, "Was it a good experience, or a bad experience?" My jaw just fell open. Up to that time, I was adamant that none of it was good.

John: So what was this other alien's purpose in being there?

Lynne: He was there to calm me. To let me know he'd been with me forever. He's the one who brainwashed me.

John: What did the hands feel like?

Lynne: They're not warm, like a human's hand. It's really dry, normally. The suction cups on the ends of the fingers don't have that much of a different feel. They don't . . . suck . . . or anything like that. Um, it's more like a fleshy pad that has more tactile sense to it. And it had that gelatinous stuff on its hand . . . made it look slimy, which is very unusual.

John: What happened next?

Lynne: It started palpating my belly area, rapidly from right to left. I realized I didn't want to watch this part--and there was a feeling of anesthesia that made me drift in and out. When the movement stopped, I looked again and saw a small piece of tissue of some kind. It was red and black, and looked bloody. It would have about covered a female palm (in size), and was maybe an inch thick. I just kept thinking of it as a piece of meat. It looked like smooth muscle, and the black part was a little more formed. I don't know if it was an embryo or fetus. At one point, I even thought of cancer.

John: Are you aware at what point in your regular cycle this would have been?

Lynne: I had a delayed . . . I was worried I might be pregnant, and had just taken a home pregnancy test. The test was negative. But I had a couple cycles in there that were . . . unusual.

John: Okay. After the "surgery," then what happened?

Lynne: That's where it gets really strange. Up to that point, I had been seeing only the aliens, but suddenly I was seeing colors again, like a normal reality. I was being half-walked/half-dragged through a room . . . like entering an anteroom through a corridor. There was a bunch of end tables to my left. Whoever was dragging me was standing behind me, to my right. The tables were stacked with stuff . . . books, equipment, and things like that. I saw all kinds of metallic-looking things--equipment of some kind--but I just couldn't tell exactly what they were. It looked like a normal room, with corners. This person kind of pulled me through the room, and as we got toward the end, there was a door on the left. There were three men standing behind the end tables. I kinda laughed inside, because I thought they looked like the classic "MIB's." I thought I was finally getting my men-in-black, you know. They all looked alike. They didn't make any moves--just watched as I was dragged through the room.

John: What did these men look like?

Lynne: They were all dark-haired, and they had on black suits.

John: What happened next?

Lynne: I was dragged on through this room into another room. This room looked like a laboratory. It had . . . big equipment. I was reminded of a dentist's office. I could see some kind of equipment that had . . . almost like a drill, or a drill-bit, coming down. Whoever was dragging me brought me on into the room and deposited me on the floor. He laid me down on my stomach, which I hate, because I'm not a stomach person. (I don't like laying on my stomach.) Suddenly, I could hear running water. My face was toward the right, and after just a few seconds, I could see running water. At first it was clear, but as I watched it turned a murky color, and it looked like there were clumps of something floating through it. At that point, I smelled fishy water. I mean, it was yucky! Really a horrible smell! And it seemed I could smell just a hint of salt, kind of a tang to the odor. Then, that device I'd seen was lowered down into the water, and it had a suction device on the tip. It appeared that maybe it was siphoning out either the clumps or the water. I looked at it just for a moment or two, and then heard a male voice behind me. I couldn't make out what was being said; I just knew it was a male voice. Then this man came into view, from around the right side, and stood near me. He was close enough that I knew he was addressing me. He said something to me, which I couldn't understand. But, when I saw him, I had an instantaneous dislike. It was a total, "Ooh, I hate your guts!"

John: Did he look familiar?

Lynne: Yeah, he did. I felt I had known him since the dawn of time, and had never liked him. He was a very . . . uh, swarthy-looking guy. He had black hair that was rather thick. He had kind of a "five o'clock shadow." He appeared to be in his forties. He had kind of heavy jowls. He was wearing a black suit. He had a heavy mustache. When he spoke to me, I had that instantaneous hatred. I felt like I had always hated that man!

Shortly after he spoke to me, this woman appeared. She walked up to the man and stood behind him, on what would be his left. When I saw her, I was totally shocked. It was a feeling of betrayal to the bottom of my feet! It was as if I had always known her, too, and always thought of her as being a friend.

John: Did you know her, too?

Lynne: I knew her enough to know that she shouldn't have been there. Basically, it was like, all of a sudden I associated her with him, and that meant it had changed the story completely. I now realized these two were in cahoots . . . (laugh) . . . if you want to call it that. My thoughts about her changed completely. I thought, "Okay, now that I know who you are, I will remember! I will remember from now on!"

John: Are there any aliens here, or anything that looks alien?

Lynne: There was nothing alien at all through this portion of the encounter. It had a very different feel to it . . . a human feel.

John: Did they have on any kind of outfits or uniforms?

Lynne: Other than the fact that they looked like they all had the same tailor . . . Their clothes were all black. Black suits. The woman had on a black dress, but I can't really describe it, because it was just a black dress. Nothing outstanding about it.

When they started walking back with me, out of that room, the woman was closest to me, and I looked fully into her face. When I had first entered the room, I was still totally paralyzed. But my hearing was coming back, and then as things progressed, I realized my voice was coming back. So, at this point, I looked at the woman and said, "I will remember you. I will remember this!" She looked at me with a shocked expression, as if she had thought I wasn't even there enough to know what was going on, or that I would even recognize her. She said, "No, you won't!" with a condescending air, and I said, "Oh, yes, I will!" I knew I would remember.

John: How vivid and real did this all seem to you, as compared to the first part?

Lynne: This has a different feel to it. It was as if they, or I, was attempting to put it into a framework I could understand. You know, more of a human-related, human-oriented type of thing.

John: Like, put on a human drama to confuse you?

Lynne: Exactly. I felt like I was being played with. It was as if they had offered me, or dredged up something they could use to explain it to me.

John: Did the man or woman, either one, remind you of any conscious people or places?

Lynne: For some reason, I keep thinking of Spanish stories . . . or Mexican stories. (Laugh.) And yet, the feeling I had was that these people might have been of Greek extraction . . . possibly Mediterranean.

John: How does this series of human encounters end?

Lynne: They take me on out of the laboratory and back into the anteroom. Then we exit out of what seems to be a structure. In fact, I had the feeling it was a very big building. Felt almost like . . . the "streets of Manhattan." A very big place. The man and woman head toward a very sleek, shiny black car, and they get into it. By this time, I'm walking on my own. I have free movement again.

John: Where are you?

Lynne: I don't know.

John: I mean, are you in the streets of New York?

Lynne: (Laughed.) It looked like it! It was really weird. I have no idea where I was. You know, I'm familiar with my home and the ship, but this . . . I just have no idea where I was.

John: Okay.

Lynne: And then the guy who was escorting me, whom I never saw, pushes me into the passenger side of another black car. The man and woman's car comes toward us, and we're headed the opposite direction. The woman is nearer to me, because she's on the passenger side of their car. And as they go past our car, I threw up my finger at her. She was so shocked, and the expression on her face was priceless!

John: Okay. Now, moving on from that, what was the very next thing that happened?

Lynne: After that weird interlude, I was back on the table, and saw my dog coming toward my face. Then I thought, "Wait a minute, that's not my dog. That's my brother's dog. That's not mine." And that's when I knew I had asked the aliens for something--whether I intended to or not. I knew my brother would be having an encounter soon. Then I was back home in bed. I was angry, because I felt like they had deliberately waited to abduct me after my husband left. I thought, "Darn, I wanted a witness!" And then I realized it was a good thing they waited, because my husband would have been late getting to St. Louis.

John: Did you have any physical marks afterward? Or any other physical evidence? (My husband was in the room at this time, and answered.)

Kevin: After I got home, and she told me about this, I went into the bedroom. She hadn't bothered to make the bed, and the sheets, of course, were wrinkled. But there were a couple of places--each one of them about six to eight inches long, where the threads were pulled. Like if you were to dig your fingers into the sheets and pull. They averaged about an inch apart. They were a little closer on one end, and farther apart on the other, all the way down.

That, and her nightshirt . . . on the front . . . would have been just below her belly button . . . There was a stain, about the size of a half-dollar. Very pale . . . brown, I guess. Whatever it was had soaked all the way through, to either side.

Lynne: And I washed it. I'm sorry; I know I shouldn't have.

John: That's okay. There probably wasn't enough to test, anyway. Do you recall any marks on yourself?

Lynne: No, and that's kind of interesting. Since April, I've been a mass of bruises, all over my arms and legs. There was no reason for them, but practically every day I would get up, and another one would have appeared. I was beginning to think it was stigmata. But then, an odd thing happened. About a month or so ago, they all cleared up. I did have a little bruise about three days after the experience, but that's all. I've been relatively bruise-free.

John: So, how do you feel about the experience, now?

Lynne: I'm very glad I had a conscious experience. It got rid of the doubts. It has been such a strange process, in coming to accept it. I told my husband I still feel that on the whole it is a negative experience, because they're not doing it overtly and up-front. I'm not so angry over this one, because I feel they did something to help bring my brother back at a time when he was needed--when Mom was sick. But, aside from any aspects of that, it's still not right. I would hope that, if we were on some other place, and we wanted to meet the local flora and fauna, that we would do it a little differently. Maybe not . . . sneak up on 'em.

HYPNOSIS SESSION
November 22, 1992

John: (Regression has been induced, and the time-frame set to my encounter of September 29.) . . . And what do you notice, first? You'll be able to talk comfortably, this time, as you feel the sensations that you described . . . What do you notice?

Lynne: Some muscle ache, about midway . . . in my legs. There's an absence of sound, right before the paralysis. Everything blots out--the sensation of the room and everything. It's a conscious sensation of a loss of stimuli.

John: How do you feel about realizing that?

Lynne: It's startling! It happened so quick, right before the paralysis, that I didn't have much time to think about it.

John: Okay. Just follow that through, until you come across something perhaps additional or different, and you can add those details.

Lynne: I see something . . . just a brief glimpse. It's like a dome- shape. But I'm only seeing part of it. It's highly polished. I keep thinking of the top of a light globe--something milky color. There's a diffuse light shining through it. It's very close to my face.

John: Okay. Take a moment and see where your body is as this image comes to you.

Lynne: Ooh . . . That was weird! Whew!

John: Go on. Let me know what's weird here . . .

Lynne: I saw a view of the bed, looking down. The thing I saw near my face was the ceiling light, and I was looking down at the bed.

John: Do you see yourself in bed?

Lynne: No. I don't see the dog, either.

John: Where's your dog?

Lynne: (Agitated sound.) I see rumpled covers. Oh, God . . . I think the dog's with me. Oh, that's terrible!

John: It's okay . . . Just continue on. Let yourself slowly re- experience every step, only describing what's different or additional as you happen to see or experience anything else.

Lynne: There are some real . . . fuzzy . . . moments in my head. It's like I've retreated into . . . just a little spot in my head. I know my body is there, but I'm less aware of my body.

John: What do you notice?

Lynne: Ooh . . . There was some equipment in that room! In the medical room.

John: What do you see?

Lynne: It's some kind of an arm . . . arm-like device. One of the aliens was using it. I see him reaching for it, and bringing it down toward me . . .

John: What's the thing look like?

Lynne: It's got . . . It's like a . . . It's almost like a robotic arm. Metallic. I keep thinking "arm," because it's almost like bones . . . radius and ulna--tibia, fibula--all that stuff. There are two pieces--two rods--and then there's a joint, and then a solid piece up here. But I can't see what it's connected to over here. There's bigger . . . machinery or equipment . . . or something . . . that this "arm" is attached to, and the arm swings free of it.

John: Uh, huh. And what does it do?

Lynne: I think I'm afraid to know! (I broke out of hypnosis and opened my eyes. The hypnotherapist spent a few moments re-inducing regression.) Just relax . . . You know whatever you saw is already over and you survived it. You're fine, so knowing about it only adds to your power and understanding. It can't hurt you now. You don't have to be afraid now, but you can feel and know what that arm-thing is all about. What do you see and feel about the arm?

Lynne: Oh, this is really strange. I've got the feeling . . . he used it on my belly. I think . . . it cut me open. Something happened below my belly button, on the right-hand side. Like a puncture. There's some resistance, and a feeling of movement inside . . . like a "tweaking." It's not intestinal; it's in the deeper organs. There's a twisting, tweaking, and a pull. I don't feel any pain.

John: Take a good look at his fingers, and describe them.

Lynne: The fingers are very long! Almost ten inches, or a foot long. It makes you wonder how they can manipulate them so well. They're fast. They move them so quickly, and then . . . they've got pads. Little fleshy protuberances on the inside of their fingers. On the tips. The stuff on its hands is just really clear. Doesn't hide the hand at all. Looks almost like . . . if you could solidify water, but keep it clear. Not freeze it; but solidify it.

John: When he does that to your tummy, what sensation does your tummy notice?

Lynne: Ugh . . . It made my skin crawl. It was so eerie. It was kind of wet; almost a gluey feel.

John: Since you became wide alert at that moment, do you remember them telling you anything?

Lynne: (Laugh) . . . Oh, just the sentence, "I've been with you always."

John: Where'd that come from? Where'd it come from at that point in time?

Lynne: When I saw the second one. And I didn't remember before now, but he used my real name, not any "pet" name or nickname. He's spoken to me before.

John: Okay. Can you drift to a time before, when you were with him before . . . ?

Lynne: Oh . . . I was out mowing the lawn.

John: How old are you?

Lynne: Probably fifteen, sixteen.

John: Okay. Go on, nice and slow . . . describe what you see.

Lynne: This is weird. I was out mowing in the front yard, by the road . . . and I heard my name called! It called once, and I kept mowing. I stopped at first, when I heard it call, and kind of shook it off. Then it called again, and I still shook it off. And I kept mowing and got stung.

John: You what?

Lynne: I mowed over a bunch of bees . . . in a ground nest, I guess.

John: Was it the same voice?

Lynne: Yes.

John: And you ignored it? What happened when you got stung?

Lynne: I shut off the mower and went inside.

John: Did you see the bees?

Lynne: Hmm . . . That's funny. I had on a watch, and I got stung right around it. But I'm not sure I saw 'em. I just remember getting stung.

John: Okay. Let's just take it nice and slow. What happened when you went inside?

Lynne: I told Mom about being out there, and hearing my name called, and not listening to it and getting stung.

John: Does she say anything to you?

Lynne: She said I should start listening to my voices.

John: Did you do anything about your bee stings?

Lynne: No, I don't remember doing anything about them. We always used to put baking soda on stings, but I don't remember actually doing anything about 'em.

John: Well, when you look at your wrist, do you actually see the bee stings?

Lynne: Not really. There's no hive or swelling. But I remember it hurting. There were two spots, to either side of my watch.

John: A double bee-sting?

Lynne: (Laugh). Maybe it had two tails.

John: Okay. I want you to focus on that spot to either side of your watch. Take a good look at the spot, and be aware of what came in contact with that area. Your face is showing some reactions . . . what do you notice in your thoughts?

Lynne: It was . . . like a needle.

John: A single needle?

Lynne: Two of 'em. About so long--two or three inches long.

John: Okay. And where are you, when you're aware of the needles? Are you in your house?

Lynne: Huh, uh. I'm lying on something flat. The needles have got a little curve on the end, like a curlicue.

John: Follow the needles on up. See what's connected, or what's touching it.

Lynne: I see . . . almost looks like a child's face. It's kind of round.

John: Go on . . . What makes it look like a child's face?

Lynne: This is going to sound really funny . . .

John: That's okay. Go ahead.

Lynne: It looks like it has on a . . . like, a little blue . . . hat-type thing.

John: What kind of hat? What does it remind you of?

Lynne: Uh . . . Almost like a Santa's hat! (Laugh.) Like a nightcap.

John: What else does it wear?

Lynne: The cap is attached to an outfit of some kind. It reminds me of a hooded cape. It's loose, but not voluminous. The part of the cap around the head is tight-fitting, but the part that comes on down, like a nightcap, droops . . . it drapes just a little. It's an electric blue color . . . a very pretty color.

John: What else makes it look like a child's face? Is it a child, or an adult?

Lynne: It's not really a child. Because of the outfit, it makes me think of a child. It reminds me of a little snow outfit.

John: Okay. Can you describe the face more?

Lynne: It's not like one of the grays. It's got a little nose. The eyes are bigger than normal, but they're not the big, black, empty, staring . . . They're dark--close to a brown-black. The pupil is bigger than a normal human eye. It extends more the length of the eye. Then, out toward the edges, the color is lighter--more of a tan or beige. Its mouth is a bit fuller, and it looked like it was smiling, even though it didn't open its mouth. It had character.

John: Is it the one you've seen recently?

Lynne: Uh, huh. Only younger-looking. Like it can age. It's definitely older than me, and older than any of the others I've encountered.

John: Was he the one who did something to your wrist?

Lynne: Yeah.

John: Was there any other communication?

Lynne: He told me I was doing fine, and that they would be back.

John: You don't like that, do you?

Lynne: No. I think they pretty often tell me that.

John: Okay, let's jump back, now, through time . . . back to the recent episode. How does the intrusion into your belly end? What do you see or sense happening?

Lynne: (Sigh.) They took something. I feel that pull . . . like they pulled something out, and I can see the metallic arm retreating up. Then I saw the piece of tissue laying between my feet, closer to my left foot.

John: So, you could have kicked it off, if you'd wanted to?

Lynne: If I could have moved.

John: What happened then?

Lynne: They just left it there for a minute; as if they'd just laid it down. I was very puzzled.

John: Did you get upset?

Lynne: I . . . There's more a sense of . . . a feeling that it had been done so often . . . Kind of a . . .resignation, I guess, more than anything.

John: Did your tummy hurt?

Lynne: Yes, it did! And it did for several days afterward. I'll be darned! For a couple days afterward, I kept having these sharp twinges every once in a while. And then it finally went away.

John: Did you ever feel that twinge, or pain, before?

Lynne: It's reminiscent of mittelschmerz, when . . . every once in a while, you can feel an egg release . . .

John: Any other pains, or soreness? Lynne: There were two little dots, like pinpricks, on my lower back. I didn't know what they were; I just noticed them after the experience.
