The design is based on an Emblem in Atlanta fugiens by Michael Maier, 1618, which says; 'To him who concerns himself with alchemy, may Nature, Reason, Experience and Reading by guide, staff, spectacles and lantern.' Nature bears the shinning Star of David - symbol of the lumen naturae - and the fruits of plenty, and the adepts follow in her footsteps. She has four breasts, indicating wholeness.
