Tyre Tread Competition

Recently there have been reports from around the UK of similar types of interference that we now call tyre treading, when listening to the interference it sounds like Bacon frying (Danish) ;-)

The interference is normally 50Hz which would suggest mains, it is of a regular period of 8 minutes lasting from between 15 to 25 seconds.

I have over a period of about 3 week systematically tried switching of various domestic appliances and then switching off all electric from my main consumer unit and then using battery power, I recently spent a hour or so in a neighbours house (about 50 yrds from my house) with my Yupiteru MVT 7100 scanner tuned to 137.50, every 8 minutes the Bacon was frying again.

I am now no nearer a solution than when I started my investigations, so I am now offering a ready built PHQFH to the first person who can offer a genuine solution which does not involve me moving house!

The samples below are from the NOAA 15 taken 3rd March 2000, at 07:32z

I think this exercise can be useful and educational to most people! I have used cool edit to crop the wave files and used some of the utilities for measuring various things, I am amazed at some of the functions available within these wave editing packages, I think it's back to school for me!
