In a world of conflict, where those aligned with Lord British, battled the denizens of the dark side, a warrior was born. Cal Phoenix, born to father Dale Phoenix and mother, Serenity Phoenix. Dale was a miner by trade, but his passion lay in the battle. In an attempt to better himself in preparation for his future family, he would go out with friends and hunt down creatures of the night, killing them, then robbing them of their gold.
Serenity did not like her husband's secondary career path, and liked it even less when their son Cal was born. Dale had always wished for a boy and when that wish was granted he immediately made plans for the child. Cal was to be just like his father, a brave warrior who would learn the fighting ways and become like his father before him. However, things did not plan out as Dale had hoped or expected.
The happy family was broken up early in Cal's childhood. Serenity, who had been working tirelessly to groom Cal to be a decent human being, fell ill before her son's eighth birthday. Even to this day, there are stories as to how Serenity died, the most talented of healers couldn't cure the poisons in her body, how they got there, nobody knows. With her death, the Phoenix family was thrown into disarray. Dale became even more intent to make his son the greatest warrior in the land. Whilst Serenity had always held Dale back somewhat, he was now free to educate his son the way he wanted. Although Cal did indeed learn the art of fighting, he was concerned, as he grew into his teenage years, that his life was too based around death.
Despite being a quick learner, Cal held back and began to frustrate his father. Young Phoenix was a master swordsman, and wielded the weapon with as much talent and grace as Dale could and did. A year after Serenity's death, Cal and Dale had moved to Buccaneers Den, where Dale felt Cal could learn the most. The teachings were making young Master Phoenix a strong adversary for those in his age group. However before long, Cal grew tired of his father's domination and persistant badgering. Cal desperately missed his homeland, where he and his mother had spent happy times. As time passed, that need to get away grew stronger and stronger before he couldn't take anymore. In the dead of night, Cal took 100 gold pieces and some essentials to survive, including a training sword, and left Buccaneers Den forever.
From there Cal was guided back to Britain, thanks to a passing mage. The moongate landed in the forests to the east of Britain, which meant a long walk for the young fighter. Although Cal had left his original family roots behind, despite his mother's memory still fresh in mind, he was to find that he was not alone. His journey back to Britain was fated as he met, the now Lady, Elspith on the road into the state of Britannia. It was as if the Gods had made it happen, both running past each other to almost collide right there, in the middle of that track.
She enquired as to where he was going, and when the weary fighter explained his situation, the kind woman took him quickly under her wing. They travelled together to her home, where he rested for some time, recovering from both the emotional and physical strain of his life thus far. The company he had gained from Elspith soon mulitplied, as he met up with her friends and colleagues. People like Feamon, Hudson Hawk, Osho and other such noble and friendly members of this almost mini community of it's own, became Cal's new found family. Osho and Hudson taught Cal the final finishing touches to his training, while
Lady Elspith helped Cal deal with living life.
All For One was born, a guild that came from the very spirit that had embraced Cal when he first joined. The family grew bigger, which led to unrest on occassions and Phoenix considered moving on. Yet the very nucleaus that the original group was based on, stayed strong, and the interlopers were squeezed out. Over this period of time however, the bond between Lady Elspith and Cal Phoenix grew stronger and stronger by the day. Phoenix was protective of her and had grown to even love this woman that he had met so long ago. One night, as the group were out hunting, Cal had stayed behind to nurse previous wounds inflicted by the fearsome liches. Elspith stayed behind to ensure he was kept safe, as he was not strong enough at the time to defend himself. That night they declared their love for each other, and there was no going back.
Now they are both to be married, and Cal has finally found his own piece of happiness. Financially he is secure, he is also to become a Lord imminently, whilst in his heart, he is contented. The turmoil of his young life is now far behind him, a dim, distant memory from long ago. Cal Phoenix now looks to the future, with his soon-to-be wife, with hope and eager expectation. Granted, the battles and fights against the denizens of that which is Evil will live on, but now he is truly ready for them.
