Europe    by Fournier, 1962. Artist Teodoro Miciano - courts depict 16th century fashion.

This pack of cards represents the epoch of the 16th Century in Europe, in which all its peoples were united in their eagerness to bring back classicism at that moment when the clothes underwent definite changes. That is why each one of the figures of this pack does not represent a character of a determined epoch and country.

The KINGS, QUEENS and JACKS are dressed in clothes taken from well-documented records, and an attempt has been made to keep the necessary unity and their distinctive characters.
At that time, fashion underwent an essential transformation: the ample, long tunic and the cloak reaching to the feet - of Byzantine origin - became about the second gothic period an ensemble of clothes that were tight on the torso and limbs; so the difference was great between masculine and feminine clothes, which formerly were almost identical.

These cards are Out of Print but I acquired this deck from HG Images
