Father Paul Dressing-up Kit

At the First Celebration of the Eucharist by Father Paul Kish every child coming to St Mary's was offered a Father Paul Dressing-up Kit to colour in and assemble. There were some very good results from lots of children.

Small version of Father Paul Dressing up KitIf you missed yours you're not too late, no matter how old you are, click here to get your very own Father Paul Dressing-up Kit to colour in, cut out and keep. Ask a grown up how to print your Father Paul Dressing-up Kit and show you how to cut it out.

On this special day Father Paul's chasuble and stole were green but you can colour them in any colours you like!

Do you know what a chasuble is? It is the sleeveless vestment the priest wears over all his clothes, including the stole, at the Eucharist. The main colour is regulated by the feast of the day. Most Sundays this is green. During Advent and Lent the priest wears purple to signify the coming of a king. Some special days, such as Easter, the colour is gold or white. For the celebration of Christ the King the priest will wear red. On Mothering Sunday pink is worn.

The stole is very important. Without it a priest cannot perform his priestly duties. He can wear anything else he likes, even his swimming trunks!, but he must wear his stole. Before putting it on the priest will kiss his stole. It is usually the same colour as the chasuble. It is often a strip of silk and hangs from the back of the neck over the priest's shoulders and down to his knees.

A deacon wears his stole only over the left shoulder and gathered by his right hip. Look again at the pictures of Father Paul before and after the ordination to see the difference.
