The Westness Brooch

'Westness' is inspired by a Celtic brooch discovered while excavating a burial site on the Island of Rousay. The grave of a viking woman was accidentally discovered in 1963 and revealed two oval brooches and a beautiful, ornamental ringed cloak-pin now known as the Westness Brooch. The silvergilt ringed pin with gold filigree and inlaid amber was probably made around 750AD, but was still used in the Viking period in the 9th century.

The Brooch is currently housed in The National Museum in Edinburgh. You can buy silver replicas in the craft and jewellery shops.
