Chapter 1

~# In the beggining #~

My first visit was in November1998 friday the 6th to be exact.When a very good friend of mine invited me to #pub she is called AfTrDarK and lives in Canada she is a Channel Master in #cybercafe where i have ops too!(but we go a long way back in the time scale of mIRC )

The reason she called me in was she had just taken over the Channel and it was going to be her Channel!And as we are good friends then she invite me to be her 1st op (she said there wasnt going to be many lmao!)

The reason behind here taking the channel was a guy had asked her for some help in #cybercafe about how to deal with viruses and in return for helping him he said he would give her ops in his channel ie:-#pub. Well he didnt so she decided to take the Channel for not keeping to his promise there were only 2 ops and no bots.So the Channel was flooded out and the Lamer was banned!

That evening i entered #pub for the 1st time there was just AfTrDarK and myself to begin with!She borrowed a bot from a guy called Noj (another good friend)and then 2 bots from #cybercafe. AfTrDARk set my flags in them so i could op and started to invite people in!Everything started great but then we hit the problem of the bots failing to keep stable :o(!

Then AfTrDarK brought in a bartender bot and things were going great people were using the Channel then we started having trouble with the bots again :o( in the end the bots from #cybercafe were replaced by all 3 of noj`s bots.The channel was back on its feet again we invite people in but after a few weeks the numbers dropped and just a few people came into the Channel !

The AfTrDark lost interest in #pub as people had stopped going in i still went there when ever i was online as did some m8`s who i had invited in most notabily `Rat`and `Semps`it became like a small club with the odd stranger dropping in !

Even at this early stage there were Takeover Attempts 1 or 2 succeded for a few days but we always managed to get it back :o)!

Then the day came i went to #pub and there were no bots at all Noj had taken them out as it wasnt worth them being there as there wasnt anyone using the channel much!!:o(((

So as i still regarded the channel as a meeting place every time i went online i started #pub still 1 or 2 people dropped in and `Rat and `Semps` still managed to drop in now and then!

Then around Christmas 1998 i was in the channel as usual and decided i would find out how about trying to get a bot to keep the #pub open and see if i could make a go of it?

A good friend of mine was online at the time `jan` we had ops on #Darling together and he had given me ops on his own channel #undernet too!

So i asked him how to get a bot and how much i could expect to pay to run 1? He asked why?So i said i had a channel but needed a bot! He asked me the channels name and when i told him #pub he said `i thought that was AfTrDarK`s channel i said it was but she had lost interest in it and it had no bots anyway!!With-out me asking he offered me the use of his bot Magneta and i excepted very greatfully he also asked how well i got on with `Noj`and `Zebra` i said very well so he dropped a bot of `Noj`s in the channel and `Zebra`s bot too saying that he would tell them that he had placed the bots in the channel and i could keep `Magneta`as long as i liked but he wasnt sure about `Noj`s bot or `Zebra`s>AceRimmer<!

So #pub lived again i spoke to `Noj` later that day and he dropped his other 2 bots in the channel too then i spoke to `Zebra` he said it was ok to have `Ace` for a while too! Then later the next day i saw `Jan` and we decided that `Ace`being in there too was a bit over kill >more bots than people lmao!!! so `AceRimmer`was taken out!

Now i needed a few channel Owner/Master lessons so i saw AfTrDarK and asked her if it was ok with her that i had got the channel up on its feet again and if she would give me some help.She agreed with-out hestation and i made her the 1st ever #pub op --Under The New Management --so it was a case of Deja vu!

The next thing i did was to write a Channel policy that would be sent to anyone i gave ops too outlining how i wanted the Channel to be run and the Channels rules etc>THE main one being it had to be FUN!!! no fighting the reason for me setting #pub up was a place where friends could meet and have FUN! The other main rule of #pub is dont dont IDLE!!!!no chat equals no FUN!<

Chapter 2

~# A new #pub #~

`Rat and `Semps still made there visits and were glad to see the bots but still the TakeOver Attempts were happening > a sad refection on some of the people who use or should i say abuse mIRC<!!!

A guy i met in #cybercafe became the 2nd #pub op`Mark`_ as we were both in the process of setting Channels up and he had ops in Magneta (the main bot in #pub) on another channel! So we decided to help each other plus at the time he always seemed to be online and one of the #pub op rules is "if you`re online be in #pub and help to protect it as bots can only do so much"! Then i gave ops to `Rat` he was someone i know and trust too and he was still coming in #pub from his 1st invite :o)!!

Then just as things looked like they were going great 1st `Mark`_ went offline then much worse so did `Noj` and his bots :o(!! Now all that was left was`jan`s `Magneta`the original NEW #pub bot! Again i asked for help from `Zebra`asking if i could borrow `AceRimmer`again till i found out what happend to `Noj` and as ever he helped out and also dropped a bot called `^dove` in the channel from a friend of his `Blascoke` later that day i made contact with `Blascoke`! We had met in #cybercafe but not really talked!We did for the 1st time about including ^dove an found like a lot of people on mIRC he was happy to help out ! Crisis over once again!!Sadly i i found `Noj` was having problems with the bots shell and then he too left mIRC! As to when he will return i am not sure! But thanks to some people who i as yet have never met but hope to one day!!#pub was coverd again!

The next op was `Semps` as he was always in the #pub too! This isnt the criteria to be an op but it helps :o) in the very early days of #pub people who were going to be online and in #pub were to be the main choice as well as being people who would add the the channel chat and not just sit behind the >@ looking in!!but a channel full of ops is also a waste of time as you dont need ops to talk !

The 1st female op was `SwtNeena` she lives in North Caroliner in the USA so when ever i went offline and she was in the channel ! I asked her to babysit #pub and op`d her as the East coast of America is 5 hours behind the UK then it was a little like a relay race handing the baton over! but if she lost her connection or was in a split then she lost the op!

`SwtNeena` just Neena to the people in pub was a popular member of the regulars who came in #pub and as `AfTrDarK` didnt use #pub i thought it was time to add a little Girl power!! lmao! So i asked the opinion of my other 2 ops `Rat` and `Semps` and they both thought she would be a good choice as an op! she is now on trial as a #pub op !

#Pub has survived for about 4 months now and has a growing number of regulars.Some have been with the channel from its early days and some are friends of friends some are even Newbies who we all try to help!`Rat` has provided #pub with a homepage which he also mantains and improves as and when he can!

~##PUB the Future!? #~

The next stage is to get #pub its own bots and try to improve the Channel and keep it alive and growing!and free from the take over idiots!

Chapter 3

~# up and running #~

Well after 4 months or so we were still alive and kicking still we had some lame takeover attempts but all the ops were getting used to handling them. Some were faster to react than others but its like anything in life IRC has its own learning curve too! And to be honest we were all a bit new to the commands needed to handle a flood attack and setting a ban! One notable name to metion here is Rambo1 (Danny).more to follow :o)

{The following relates more to part one}

I had gone on to #pub one evening to check that things were ok and in the channel was Rambo1. One of the main attackers of #pub in the early days was Dutch so when i did a whois on Rambo1. As did with anyone who was new to me in the early days. I found his ISP to be dutch too!! So i didnt op but decided to chat to him to see if he was in anyway involved with the take over attempts?He denied all involvenment and i belived him too! so i op'd and things went from there!

Rambo1 became a regular to #pub and so did Kaigo(now WhiteFox) and Ricardo- a few of the early people to join #pub were people i had helped or got to know in #cybercafe .We Had a small but regular core of users and #Pub was beginging to take shape as the channel i wanted it to be a place for friends to meet and have fun!!! About here we get another thing to make #Pub start to grow and evolve into more than just an other name and place to chat on IRC when "Rat" (The great keeper of the #PUB records) Had created the #Pub homepages (http://www.irc-pub.freeserve.co.uk/) he added pics as and when he could but also added different elements too.So as time went on and #Pub grew so did things around it!!

The numbers of people using #pub grew but by no means did have enough people to call it a multitude. But things were happening at quiet a reasonable rate.We had people from different channels come visit.Like #Darling and #nh3 #cybercafe and #Lapland some of who are still here! People who were total newbies too. And friends of friends etc.The numbers were growing by people inviting friends to the channel and others being invited to drop in and take a look and see if they liked the channel.Plus the steady stream of just people who dropped in to look.People like "Dr_Satan" to name drop a little who knew me from #nh3 came to #pub and some of his real life and IRC m8's came to #pub too!!.. (you can tell who they are as you come in #pub as they are the young looking ones,near the pool table drinking unprenouncable named drinks with weird and colourful labels from out of the bottle -NO glass its not cool - .hehee!)

One day i met a girl in an early evening check on the channel her nick was"loly" we chatted and she seem quite suprised by the fact when she said where she was from i knew were she lived Slovinia (which was part of the Yugoslavian state before the break up) she was even more suprised when i knew some of the places too (due to the fact my brother had holidays there in the 1970's and early 1980's) like Pula and Porec.(more on the reason for the mention of this soon).

We still got hit now and then but nothing that was a major threat just bloody annoying with people wondering what was happening.By this time too #pub had some old friends who had carved there names on the barstools in in the public bar namly "Badger" and "Beasty" people whom i had met in a #nh3 and in real life too at a mIRC party!! YES!! WE ARE REAL PEOPLE hehehe!!!! Around this time Rambo1 was in #Pub as much as anyone else if not more as he works shifts and had access to free time online (but dont tell his boss :o)))!!!!!).So Rambo1 became the next person to get a trial op in #Pub. "Zebra" and "Blascoke" came into to see how things were and see if we were still alive and kicking too. About this time too An other friend whom i had met sometime ago in #cybercafe i met again "|cE^QueeN"she was also friends with "Blas and Zebs" wheels with in wheels i guess you could call it. we still had
