The Design Competition

Neale Andrew unveils his
maquette at the Appeal LaunchWith the help of the Royal Society of British Sculptors, a design competition has been instigated, through which six sculptors are being invited to put forward their designs for the Permanent Tribute. A maquette will be produced by each artist. A Selection Committee has awarded the commission to the selected artist.

Project Costs

The cost of the competition will be in the order of £16,000, including a consultancy fee to the Royal Society of British Sculptors and a fee to each participant to cover expenses and the cost of a maquette.

The statue itself is likely to cost between £50,000 and £70,000, depending on the final design, the extent of the groundworks required and construction of the plinth.

There will be further costs incurred in producing appeal materials, in events associated with fundraising and in professional advice on legal issues and promotion. These costs could amount to £10,000.

Thus the total breaks down as follows:

Competition Cost

£16,000

Statue

£50-000 - £70,000

Promotion & Fundraising Admin

£10,000

TOTAL

£100,000

Any funds raised beyond the £100,000 associated with designing and erecting the statue will be  used to help promising young Marlow rowers.

How Will £100,000 Be Raised?

There are many ways of raising such a sum; it is envisaged that there will be a mix of high level gifts and sponsorship and a large number of relatively small donations from the general public.
