The town of Marlow is famous for its connections with rowing. It is the home town to Sir Steven Redgrave, whose early training took place at Marlow Rowing Club. The Club, founded in 1871 is still thriving, with some 330 active members.
Marlow has been host since 1885 to one of the premier events in the British rowing calendar, Marlow Regatta, until this
year when the event (which will keep its title) will be moved to Dorney Lake, Eton. The regatta, held annually on a Saturday in mid-June, will be replaced in Marlow by the Marlow Town Regatta and Festival, this year to be held on 16 June. |
