THE PARISH
The parish of Finstall is part of Bromsgrove Urban
District but for the people who live here it is still
"the village" with its shops, post office,
schools and pubs.
The parish of Finstall extends well beyond the boundaries
of the old village to encompass Aston Fields and to
spread westwards towards the town centre. The present
church building is actually in Aston Fields while the
churchyard is half a mile from the Church in Finstall
at site of the original chapel.
Bromsgrove was originally a market town and still retains
much of that heritage. It is surrounded by some of the
most beautiful countryside in England with the added
advantage of good road, rail and motorway connections.
The town is still growing with new housing developments
and new business parks under construction.
There are excellent schools including an independent
school and a wide range of recreational facilities.
In the parish itself we have excellent first and and
middle schools and a special school.
We have both Bromsgrove Rugby Club and Bromsgrove Cricket,
Tennis and Hockey Club located in Finstall and there
are athletics, swimming, golf and cycling clubs plus
a variety of leisure clubs based in the town and its
environs.
On the cultural side, annually in April there is the
Bromsgrove Festival with three weeks of music events.
There are also many societies catering for interests
as diverse as photography, model engineering, folk music,
and literature.
Living in Bromsgrove gives you the best of both suburban
and rural life. A few miles to the north we have the
attractions of England's second city and the industrial
heritage of the Black Country. For 300 years Bromsgrove
had a thriving nail-making industry but it died out
when nails became machine-made in the 19th century.
In the early part of the 20th century Bromsgrove Guild
of Applied Arts was founded. The Guild's most famous
pieces of work include the gates to Buckingham Palace
and the Liver Birds.
Within easy travelling distance we have the heritage
of Worcester, Elgar's Malvern, and Shakespeare's Stratford.
Close to Finstall is the Avoncroft Museum of Buildings,
Hanbury Hall, and the famous flight of canal locks at
Tardebigge.
For railway enthusiasts, Finstall is situated at the
start of the Lickey Bank and steam engines still travel
this stretch of line from time to time.
