Victoria
was born in Oshawa, Canada, but moved to Merewether Beach in Australia,
when she was only 2 years old, returning to Canada in 1991, where
she has since performed in local amateur theatre doing Broadway musicals.
She also sung with a jazz band for 4 years and won 2 scholarships
to Boston's Berklee College of Music. As a result of that affiliation,
she has competed in, and won, many contests. Victoria says she has
experimented with all kinds of music and developed a feel for new
country along the lines of Shania Twain, JoDee Messina and Faith Hill
and the albums opening track, "The Moves"
certainly reflects that.
Shania's influence is also evident on the title track, "All
Woman Girl,"
.. complete with ah, ah's and uh, uh's
.and
the catchy "Wanna Have It Both Ways,"
while "Just For Tonight" is
a Faith Hill type pop ballad that Nashville seems to be very fond
of these days.
There are some good, modern Country tracks on here as well
though, like the excellent, "Pampa Cowboy"
with some wonderful yodeling from Victoria, that reminds me
somewhat of Suzy Bogguss. This is my favourite track on the album!
There's also the catchy "You'll Be Lonely"
a track that is sure to go down well with the linedancers and I also
like the ballad "Forgotten Lullabies"
a wonderful song about an ageing woman hoping her son will visit her
in the old folks home and evoking memories of the days when he was
just a child.
On "All Woman Girl" Victoria mixes modern country music
with the pop sounds of Shania Twain and Faith Hill and comes up with
a recipe that is sure to go down well with today's, young, country/pop
fan. That said, there are some good songs on here, even if they aren't
all country, and I feel sure the album will find favour with listeners
of all ages and preferences. Add to that the fact that Victoria also
has a wonderful voice, and I have no doubt the album will prove to
be very successful.
