Michael Ballew Undertakes Two Tours In Two Months

Texas’ Michael Ballew continues to gain loyal fans on the other side of the Atlantic. The Austin based singer/songwriter, on the heels of much radio airplay, is now making direct contact with the European audiences via concert appearances.

Already known to country fans in several European countries during earlier visits, the release of his latest album, Rodeo Cool, and concentrated airplay on selected tracks, launched his latest assault on the European marketplace with headlining Festival appearances in England and Spain.

Accompanied by his three member Damn Good Texas Band (Don Raby, fiddle and mandolin; Gene Kurtz, bass guitar; and Dodd Meredith, drums), he first appeared at the annual Americana Festival in Newark, on Saturday July 6. After winning over the crowds with a set that stretched well over 90 minutes and comprising his own original material, Ballew then commenced a lengthy session of autograph signings and cd sales that stretched into the early hours of the following day. Later that Sunday, he returned to the outdoor site for more of the same interspersed with several media interviews.

Following Americana, Michael Ballew and his band played a couple of nights in Munich, Germany before completing the visit by making their debut before Spanish audiences at the Mr. Banjo Country Music Festival in Terrassa, Barcelona, August 21 & 22. There, in authentic surroundings that came straight out of Texas, he played two hour sets on both the Saturday and Sunday evenings, captivating the audience that quietly absorbed the ballads and danced to the fast songs. “I could have been in Texas, there were belt buckles as big as steak platters, huge ten-gallon hats, and well-worn jeans with cowboy shirts” the singer later reflected as he sat down to an autograph session whose line stretched way out of sight. The success of the appearance has been confirmed with a two week Spanish tour set for October.

“The Europeans love their country music and, lucky for us, it’s the kind of country we play – the honest-to-goodness, true hardcore variety” said Ballew, reflecting on his European triumph. “The crowds were tremendous, the band is hot and we can’t wait to go back. We’re also grateful for everyone’s support and belief in us”.

They didn’t have to wait too long. Michael Ballew and the Damn Good Texas Band have already packed their bags and set to commence their latest series of dates that commence in Nova Bystrice, in the Czech Republic, where he plays the Artolec International Music Festival (August 2 & 3). A few days later the group are set to appear in Landsberg, Germany (9), and the visit concludes with a headlining performance at the Equiblues International Festival & Rodeo in Saint-Agreve, France (17).

The succession of European appearances follows on the heels of rave reviews for Ballew’s current album, Rodeo Cool, and a trio of much programmed cuts which quickly secured placings in the weekly EMS Chart (a European chart for independent singles and tracks based on airplay). The title track went to #4 during its 13 week run, while the follow-up, the haunting ballad Top Of The World, jumped straight into the chart at number one! The third selection, Damned Ol’ Beer, peaked at No. 2 and scored a 10 week chart run. His latest offering, Dark Side Of The Dancefloor, has just been released to European radio.

Michael's earlier national attention, in the USA, came with the chart hits "Your Daddy Don’t Live In Heaven (He’s In Houston)" and "Pretending Fool".

In addition to concert appearances and radio plays, Michael Ballew can also be heard currently hosting a Te
