Booklet Notes:
24 Hours (The World Of John & Yoko)
Transmitted In colour by BBC1 on December 15, 1969 (10:30-11:05pm),
It Is a fascinating documentary In which BBC cameras simply followed
John & Yoko around for four days from 2 to 5 December 1969.
The first days shooting (Tuesday 2 December) coincided with the
Lennon's appointment with ATV, who were filming John's section of their
forthcoming "Man Of The Decade" programme.
The following day (Wednesday 3 December) John & Yoko were recorded In bed,
playing mellotron, watching Granada TV footage of The Beatles playing at the
Cavern In 1962, In their Rolls Royce traveling to London with assistent
Anthony Fawcett. Then various scenes at their Apple office, Including a
heated exchange with New York times journalist Gloria Emerson.
On day 3 (Thursday), the cameras captured a recording session at Abbey Road
studios: John, Yoko, Mal Evans, Anthony Fawcett, Geoff Emerick and several
others participated In an excercise that was Intended to form the basis of a
fourth avante-garde album In the Lennon/Ono series. The first "Item" to be
committed to tape was a long section of group laughter overdubbed with
percussion and chanting, Item two had each participant queing up to take turns
In whispering something In to the microphone. The recordings were never released.
On day 4 (Friday), the BBC crew witnessed the re-make of the Lennon's experimental
film "Apotheosis II", after which they recorded the couple at the Bull hotel
In Long Melford.
Bonus Items
The remaining clips on this disc are extracted from "Eventi Pop", a programme
broadcast by RAIDUE (Italian National TV, 2nd Channel) on 17 October 2002, celebrating
40 years from the release of "Love Me Do". Clips 2,3 and 4 are unreleased
private films
from the Beatles afternoon concert at the Velodromo Vigorelli, Milan - 25 June 1965.
The videos were shot In colour with hand held 8mm cine cameras by members of The Beatles
supporting acts (Peppino Di Capri, Aldo Pagani, Gianni Dall'Aglio). Since audio was
probably missing or very poor quality, the authors of the programme have overdubbed the
clips with audio taken from other (unidentified) live performances. Clip 5 reassembles
Images from one of the concerts at Teatro Adriano In Rome (27 June 1965), shot In black
and white by a fan, once again overdubbed by the authors. Finaly, some unreleased footage
of the Beatles recording "Magical Mystery Tour" In 1967 (further details
unknown)
rounds up this disc.
...ENJOY!
